Fellow patrons,
I've noticed, with some concern that the ward of Gondor seems to be failing far too often lately for any of us to truly feel safe in the rings. I wonder if, perhaps we might look into the possibility of having the ward looked at and possibly repaired so as to avoid unnecessary risk in this sport we all enjoy so much.
I think an appropriate recommendation for action might be:
1) Discover what has been going wrong? Determine the cause of these recent failings.
A) List possible or probable causes, such as unfair use of magic within the fight, or overmuch dishonor, overuse of anti magic, or merely the age of the Wards themselves.
2) Determine a possible solution
A) Eliminate those things which cause it to fail (see above)
B) Repair, or recreate the ward, enlisting the services, possibly, of some friends from the duel of magic rings, who might be willing to use their abilities to assist this noble task.
3) Assign someone the duties of keeping an eye on the ward in the future.
A) Keeping updated on the average recovery rates of combatants.
B) Performing routine tests on the ward to maintain high levels of quality.
C) Form a method of predicting possible future failures of the ward.

While I support preventive maintenance upon the Ward, in my opinion, I believe most of the injuries are a result of other things unrelated to the Ward and people choose to scapegoat the incident onto the Ward rather than looking for a more realistic cause.

All,
While I only know of the Ward from a few stories told me by my employer, liege, and friend, I am strongly inclinded to agree with the above statement. Shall we examine the recent cases, of which my liege has made note?
1.) Dalamar Ar'Daumon. By all accounts, he was immune to the protection of the wards. Therefore whether the ward functioned correctly or not would have made no difference in his case.
2.) The girl, Cherri. The blow she was struck with was remarkably light by all accounts. I would wonder if the cause of death was even related to dueling, let alone the ward.
3.) Daelin Dragonsblade. His injury was explained by his brother's post. It was the nature of his own magicks not functioning entirely correctly in conjunction with the ward. He may have been better off if the ward *had* been faulty.

In this matter, I find myself in complete agreement with Lady Starfare.
As one of the relatively few persons that the Ward of Gondor does not aid, I can confirm by my studies that the Ward is not failing. If anything, the Ward is stronger now than it was when I first began dueling... I believe the credit for this belongs to the long guardianship of the Cleric, Athlstan and the current guardianship of Auritan the Meek.
It is always best to seek the reasons for the deaths and injuries rather than assuming that the Ward, which has served without fail for so many of our duelists, may be faulty.

After further reflection, I realize that Alyxz brings up some salient points. If anything, all the pointless hostilities and negativity surely cannot be helping the Ward.
Also, not actively being concerned for its effectiveness could take away some of its intent.
So while I believe that the Ward is not the cause of anyone's injuries or death directly, perhaps by actively supporting and nurturing the Ward we can work toward making the Ward more effective even against those it previously did not aid.
Alyxz, I, personally, appreciate your concern and desire to set things aright. Now I must look within to see where perhaps I did not work in the best interest of the Ward's intent.

Try to understand that as such and not jump in with yours, your brother's, your sister's, your great-aunt Edna's, and whoever else's personal stories about the ward.

My apologies for getting the name of the ward incorrect, forgive my ignorance.
Drake, as Morgan said, I pointed to the ward as only a possible cause, I make no pretentious that I have investigated this matter at all. I have not.
As Morgan pointed out, rightly: since the ward is in perfect working order, we should look to other causes, in an effort to become better informed about them.
Until the death of Dalamar (whom I did consider a friend) I had not known that the ward could fail, and in my own duels, took no care for the safety of myself or my opponent.
Now that it is known that for some it does not work, I would be interested to find that unknown variable, if only so that I might avoid attending the funeral of another friend who died because I was not careful with my own dueling.
