I find it interesting there seems to be a double standard within the Duel of Swords today. I am forever reminded of my "shame," and how I am responsible for the actions of those in my employ. When they make a mistake, it, of course, is my fault and responsibility to fix, and I am a horrible person, simply because I employed someone who made a mistake. Yet, when someone else makes a mistake, during the
course of a challenge... specifically for the title of Overlord, and specifically a mistake that cost a man his life... they are innocent of all charges, and blameless.
Marzan, albeit unknowingly and unwillingly, did kill Dalamar. He made a mistake, a very costly one. Yet none have called for him to abandon his title. Yet Joel Conway, who is in my employ, made a mistake concerning the delivering of my challenge notice to Evan, and I was at fault... when I wasn't in any position to stop him, nor to have any knowledge of what was happening. Yet I was called upon to step away from the Barony, as "honor demanded."
I also find it interesting how someone can so easily and eagerly declare Loyalty to a man, twice, and so avidly defend him during his life... yet after his death just as easily align Loyal to the man who struck the killing blow. Does Loyalty to a man end as his last breath is drawn? Is it so fickle a thing that as soon as we leave this world, it may be cast away?
This line of thinking gives me cause to wonder if Morgan was indeed declaring her Loyalty to the Overlord... or to her own title.
My oath of loyalty is not given lightly, and I cannot serve under a man who has struck down whomever I have given that oath to. That is why I stand Renegade to the current Overlord, and will continue to do so. My doubts as to the strength of Morgan's loyalty to the crown as opposed to herself are why I opposed the Intercession.
If I am dishonorable for that, so be it.

You said it yourself. Eros did not intentionally kill Dalamar. Actually, despite the fact he was tested, he still saluted Dalamar calling him the greatest overlord. If you were there, you would have been impressed by Marzan's sportsmanship.
Eros offered no excuses for Dalamar's death. He handled the responsibility as he felt he should have. It's that simple. If Eros had shrugged the whole ordeal off, or even said, "Blame it on the ward", then maybe you would have a simple comparison. But you choose to compare the fact that Eros DID handle responsibility, when I (and others) feel you didn't.

Jaycynda,
Three people know for a fact the matter of Dalamar's life or death after his duel. Only one person could possibly know the cause of his death, if he is, indeed, dead.
You are not any of those three people.
Nor is Percival, the one who "announced" Dalamar's death to everyone, is not one of those three people. Nor is Karen Jansen, who announced his "death" in the standings.
You are speaking about matters you know nothing about.
You chose to listen to a known critic of Dalamar's assessment on the status of Dalamar's life. Does this not strike anyone else as unusual? Who is he and why did everyone accept him as some sort of authority on the matter of Dalamar's life?
You, Baron, do not know if Dalamar is dead, much less the supposed cause of this death, so before you start proclaiming a man guilty of murder, be sure there is, at least, evidence of a murder, specifically, a body.
Rather than stirring up wild conjecture, why not deal with the fact that you actively supported a lawbreaker in his illegal challenge?
You, Baron, know nothing at all about loyalty to anyone but those that serve your own selfish goals so dare not try to act like you were somehow a better friend to the former Overlord than I was.
Now I understand why you so readily stepped up to stand by a worthless man such as Huma. You are a poor poor judge of character and what goes on around you.
You dare to accuse me of not asking you why you would stand by Huma today, as if there could ever be a good reason to support offal, and yet you never once asked me why I made the decisions that I did.
I wash my hands of you.

My friends~
Are we to defile Dalamar's memory by arguing over who was a better friend to him? I hope not.
I know he died for one simple reason. I felt him die. It's a feeling I welcome on no one, and one I won't ever forget. Whether he remains dead is another matter completely. I really don't know. I, more than anyone, pray that he *is* alive.

Jaycynda:
For you to qualify Dalamar's death in a sport where only by some arcane mechanism are people generally able to walk out of the ring alive in the first place as a "mistake" on the part of the Overlord sickens me.
You are responsible for the actions of those in your employ when they are acting on your orders or in your behalf. To complain that you've been unfairly castigated for a mere mistake is one thing; to then turn and compare your situation with one in which the Overlord is wholly blameless sickens me.
Further, your cowardly and pathetic accusation toward the former Baroness speaks volumes about the person you have become. I finally begin to understand why you act so oddly to me since my return. Shame must be a terrible thing.
With severance,
Ian Rex.

My friend.
I think you may have gone too far this time... I am surprised you believe Dalamar's 'death' is in any way Eros' fault.
Twice, late in the duel, Eros offered to pause the duel... and both times Dalamar indicated that the duel should continue.
I firmly believe Dalamar knew the risks he was taking... just like he always knew the risks he took by dueling.
I am also reminded by Lady Morgan that it the 'death' of Dalamar is still a matter of conjecture.
I declared myself Neutral to Dalamar for reasons he and I both knew well... I declared myself Loyal to Eros for reasons he and I both know well... and should he do things or cross lines that only I can define for myself, I will no longer be Loyal... and he and I both know this.
Lord Eros made no mistake during the course of his challenge... unless you count the times he was struck by Dalamar. To say otherwise is to besmirch the obvious respect and honor which Eros both issued and dueled his challenge.
I hope you can look inside yourself and find what deamons are driving at you... and drive them out.
Lady Drake, aka the Gryphon.

Madame Ashleana
Tis the only double standard be the one thee wish be applied unto thee. Thou shall forever be reminded and I shall continue to remind all, ast long as I draw breath, of thine deceit. Thou art the one who wrote the challenge, thou art the one who wouldst cast blame upon thine servant, attempting to hold thineself blameless. Thou art the one who stood silently by as mineself and Morgan didst bear the brunt of the insults and demands, all the
while knowing of thine own perfidy. In truth, Madame, thee were doubtless hoping I wouldst nae expose thee for the deceitful personage thou art. Thee aire a disgrace to the Third Ring.
Ast to thine stance with regard to Eros Hunrai Marzanhe DeBurgo, tis ast Morgan hast apprised thee, tis a spurious reason, for thee hae taken ast gospel the jottings of those who hae nae anna way 'o knowing, indeed, thee hae taken the jottings of those whom, more than once, hae made known their distaste if not outright contempt for Dalamar ArD'aumon. Tis seeming thee aire willing to take the word of those who shouted loudest for Dalamar's
downfall. A truly magnificent display of your loyalty, Madame.
Thee aire a pitiful creature, Madame. Indeed, how dare thee presume to doubt Morgan's loyalty unto Eros for thee know nae her reasons nor inquired of her. Thou art nae fit to wipe the Lady of Avalon's boots. Tis I clearly recall thee taking a Renegade stance unto Lord ArD'aumon, then, rather conveniently, choosing to stand loyal mere days later. Perhaps t'was thee who wast seeking to protect thine own title, neh? Dinna bring up the challenge
made unto thee by Lucian, lass, for t'was certes Dalamar wouldst nae step in to defend thee in that match. Dalamar didst intercede agin K'yorl though methinks t'was more agin K'yorl and nae in support 'o thee, Madame, for tis K'yorl, though a fine bladesman wast long looked upon ast one nae fit to hold a ring. Though I shall state in comparison to Huma the Oathbreaker he be more fit, and in comparison unto thee, Madame, e'en more so.
Thee ast well ast that oaf, Gimmzak leapt at the chance to champion such ast Huma Dragonbane. Aire thee so forgetful, Madame, that thee dinna recall his whining and sniveling, and e'en his comment that he dinna wish the crown, he simply dinna wish Dalamar to hold it? Gads, Madame, thee discarded thine honor and thine principles the day thee didst meet the former Baron Evan in the ring and hae nae the wit to know it. Thee cast thine support to
one who hast declared he regained his self respect by regaining "his" ring. Tis certes anna what need a ring to regain self respect be a pitiful individual. I hae met paupers with nae but rags to cover their gaunt bodies who hae yet nae lost their self respect and certes wouldst nae "gain" it by merely being in possession of material items.
Thou shoulds cover thine head with ashes, Madame, don sack cloth and crawl upon thine belly for the disgrace thee bring unto the Third Ring and these ancient rings.
Were I nae the lady I am, Madame, I should spit upon sight of thee. Thee aire indeed dishonorable, Madame, nae surprising for thee didst cast aside what e'er honor thee may hae had thee cast down long agon, and hae finally buried it with thine own words and deeds, Madame. Thee may be coddled by those who do condone deceit and dishonor, Madame, lauded e'en, but rest assured, nae by those who witnessed thine perfidy or do hold such ast thee to
be a blight upon these ancient and hallowed halls.

"You said it yourself. Eros did not intentionally kill Dalamar. Actually, despite the fact he was tested, he still saluted Dalamar calling him the greatest overlord. If you were there, you would have been impressed by Marzan's sportsmanship."
Never once have I questioned the Overlord's sportsmanship, Var. Not once. I know Marzan to be generally a good and honorable man.
"Eros offered no excuses for Dalamar's death. He handled the responsibility as he felt he should have. It's that simple. If Eros had shrugged the whole ordeal off, or even said, "Blame it on the ward", then maybe you would have a simple comparison. But you choose to compare the fact that Eros DID handle responsibility, when I (and others) feel you didn't."
Please tell me, Var, how I might have "handled the responsibility" better. Need I search through old messages to count how many times I not only admitted my mistakes to the community, but apologized for them as well? Please tell me how, other than stepping away from the Barony, or simply defending it and myself the best I can, in the ring, could I have "handled my responsibility." Please tell me again how I have done no "soul-searching" on this
matter, and how I've talked to no one regarding how I feel, asking their advice as to what was honorable. Please tell me you know I never once woke regretting what has happened and the things I have done. Please tell me how many times I have said "I blame..." Please tell me Joel was never spoken to on this matter... that I simply passed it off.
I ask you to tell me these things as you seem one of the best at informing others of their thoughts, feelings and actions.

"You chose to listen to a known critic of Dalamar's assessment on the status of Dalamar's life. Does this not strike anyone else as unusual? Who is he and why did everyone accept him as some sort of authority on the matter of Dalamar's life?"
I did not know Sidartha was a "known critic of Dalamar's assesment.", Morgan. It was her that informed me of the late Overlord's passing away. Is it so unusual to take the word of his lover, an empath / telepath who could very likely know?
"You, Baron, do not know if Dalamar is dead, much less the supposed cause of this death, so before you start proclaiming a man guilty of murder, be sure there is, at least, evidence of a murder, specifically, a body. "
I admit, it is hard to do such when someone spirits away the body. I ask, then, Morgan, if you would know the status of the once Overlord, and if he is indeed alive, when some might visit to offer their well-wishes. And if he is dead, when whoever has the body might return it so he might have a proper burial.
"Rather than stirring up wild conjecture, why not deal with the fact that you actively supported a lawbreaker in his illegal challenge?"
Opposing an intercession is actively supporting someone? Rest assured, Morgan, had someone else challenged and you chose to test them, no matter my personal feelings, I would oppose the test. I also do not see his issuing of challenge illegal, but I find your outcry one of a woman attempting to manipulate the rules so you would not have to stand in the ring, as a Loyal Baron, more than once every two months.
"You, Baron, know nothing at all about loyalty to anyone but those that serve your own selfish goals so dare not try to act like you were somehow a better friend to the former Overlord than I was."
How does remaining loyal to a man no longer in this realm ( for the record, I did not say "dead" ) serve my "own selfish goals?" And tell me, where did I question your friendship with the former Overlord? I did not. I questioned your reasons for aligning Loyal to the current Overlord.
"You dare to accuse me of not asking you why you would stand by Huma today, as if there could ever be a good reason to support offal, and yet you never once asked me why I made the decisions that I did. "
I chose to give you the benefit of the doubt, Morgan. That you would step in the ring and give the man who insulted you a sound thrashing yourself. I believed you would face the man who insulted you, meeting him for your honor.
Before you call me hypocrite for my own use of the intercession, K'yorl did not insult me. He insulted every person who has ever donned the uniform for this sport, and especially those who do today. He insulted those who do the mostly thankless job here. While I took personal offsense to the statement, he did not insult *me.* Had he done so, I would have faced him without intercession, defending myself against his words. Had he challenged any
other Baron, and had I been asked to officiate the match, I would have refused to humor K'yorl because of his insult to the *officials.*
I guess I am a poor judge of character, Morgan... I once believed you to be one of the best in the sport, and someone I could look up to.

Finding nothing to say to his note, Jaycy simply pens her thoughts.
Ian,
I am sorry to hear you have not returned to duel, as I had hoped you would yourself challenge for the Third.
I would like nothing more than to see the ring I now hold in the hands of someone with some sense of honor.

The gypsy didn't even bother to read Jona's letter, knowing it would be the same rant she's heard for months, and moved on.

How often did you apologize for your mistake? I thought you told everyone that your servant made the mistake and you had no knowledge of when the peer wins were sent until after you won the challenge. Did you not get a letter from Golden saying originally that the wins were not yet valid? Or shall we blame your servant again for refusing to find a way to inform you on this obviously urgent matter?
Eros broke no rules, and it's apparent he didn't kill Dalamar from what I have read in other posts. Even if he has, he had no hidden agenda, for it was entirely unintentional. In truth I feel you challenged a couple days early to "beat Lucian to the punch" as he was waiting for the standings to come up for peer wins to be verified, so he could challenge the same person you challenged.

Var, I admitted on several occasions *I* made mistakes, and I apologized for them, to the community. I had no knowledge challenge had been issued until an hour before the match, when I returned to RhyDin. I had no contact with anyone other than Jola and Wil Savage from the afternoon before the challenge notice was sent until Friday afternoon. Joel Conway could not send a message to me as he had no clue where I was... *I* had little clue where I
was. How could he have "refused" to inform me if he and everyone else were ignorant of my whereabouts?

Never once was it my intent to issue premature challenge, Var. It was well-known that I was indeed waiting for the standings to come out so legal challenge would have been issued. The challenge *was* issued prematurely because of a mistake. As for being issued a "couple days early," it is my understanding that the standings did come out the same day Joel sent the notice, fifteen hours after said challenge was issued. Not a "couple days."
