Magnus,

Your perception of my loyalty as conditional is not altogether innacurate...but also not completely accurate either.
Our present Overlord has shared the rings with me for quite a time now and knows well my feelings on intercession. I stated that as a one situation that the crown would no longer recieve my support in a restatement of a belief I have had for four reigning overlords now.
I clarified it not in threat to Eros or in attempt to blackmail him, but to make sure that the community at large knows my feelings on that matter as those that share the rings with me now may or may not be aware of it. Personally I do not believe that Lord Eros would ever use the Test of Worthiness or Baronial Intercession in such ways that I would find wrong so I felt no need to mention it.
I stand by my belief, no matter the Overlord. Lord Eros as yet, has not, and will likely never abuse the Test in such a fashion that I would be forced to change alignments...so thusly. It was not a concern.

I am,

WarLord Cletus.

The very idea of absolute and unconditional Loyalty is, in my mind utterly rediculous.
Of course Baron Uziel's loyalty is conditional... everyone's is. I am certain that if Eros does something I find wrong, I will no be Loyal. I am also certain that he knows this. I am also moderately certain that the other Loyal Barons feel much the same way... and, except for very rare persons, most every Baron who has been Loyal to any Overlord has felt the same.
Baron Uziel and myself don't say these things as threats against the Overlord's behavior... that's silly. We say these things because that's the way we are.

Cletus

The serving kids aire taking wagers at ten to one odds, that the Barons Drakewyn Silvertree and Uzie Poo stand as loyal for the protection. Ye see neither can challenge for the crown until after the warlord tourney, and neither wishes to face challenge ast Neutral or Renegade afore then.

Wager, sir?

Lady Jonalyn.

Please inform the serving kids that I wish to bet ten thousand gold crowns on the fact that I am not standing Loyal for the protection.
I have stated on this very cork that I will -never- seek the title of Overlord, as I choose to leave that for my children to achive, should they choose to duel at all.
Also, given that I have recently added Lord Eros to my dueling team, and have been a friend of his for nearly my entire dueling career... why on earth would I -not- be Loyal?
In case you have forgotten, I stood Neutral to Dalamar... I respected him greatly, and I could never stand Renegade to him... but for reasons he and I both knew, I could not stand Loyal.
I cannot say that I will always stand Loyal to Lord Eros, but my loyalty has nothing to do with wanting the crown for myself or not wishing to be deluged with challenges.
In fact, I am under challenge at this time, and I will not -ask- Lord Eros to interceed... nor will I ask him to step aside should he -choose- to interceed.
The rules themselves clearly state it is his choice.

Here's hoping you can cover the wager.

Madame Silvertree

Firstly Madame, aire thee crippled that thee canna place a wager or inform the serving lads thineself? Madame, I am most assuredly nae thine servant to do thine bidding.

Thee aire nae ast "knowing" of thine friend, Eros ast thee might be, Madame, or perhaps thee aire.

I most certes hae nae forgotten thee didst stand ast Neutral unto Lord ArD'aumon, Madame, ast to anna respect thee hae for him, that be verra questionable ast thee hae shown upon manna occasions I hae witnessed. Tis more likely that Lord ArD'aumon wished someone who wast truly loyal and dinna seek thine spurious and wavering stance, Madame.

I thank thee for the announcement that thee aire under challenge. I also note if thee willna ask Eros de Burgo to intercede, tis I do believe he hast stated he shall nae do so lest he ist so requested to do so, therefore thine claim thee wouldna ask him to step aside ist moot, neh?

The rules of engagement grant unto the Overlord the "right" to intercede, Madame, whether thee ask or nae, perhaps that hast slipped thine mind. The choice to do so or nay lies with the Overlord, Madame, nae with thee. Thee may only request his intercession, thee canna demand it, for thee hae nae anna such "right".

Thee speak of recently adding Eros Hunrai Marzanhe DeBurgo to thine dueling team ast if thee hae granted him a gift of some sort, how verra drool to then add the comment "why on earth would I -not- be Loyal?" Madame, thee hae already declaimed that there aire circumstances which would lead thee to alter thine stance with regard to Eros Hunrai Marzanhe DeBurgo, there for the question ist foolish. There aire reasons "on earth" wherein thee
wouldna remain loyal, neh?

Ast to covering anna wager, Madame, hast thine vision so failed thee that thee canna read properly? Tis I nae offered anna wager, tis I quite clearly writ that the serving lads were laying odds. Now, if thee canst manage to lay a wager with one of the lads, and should it come to pass that thee shouldst indeed win, Madame, tis doubtless that by the time "never" arrives they canst certes cover the bet.

Amusedly,

And here I thought we'd put all this behind us.

Lady Jonalyn.

To answer your first paragraph, my entire willingness to bet was simply to see if you would comment further, and you have with your usual vitrol.
To answer your second paragraph, I know my friend Lord Eros well enough... though you hint with that statement some special knowledge. If that is the case, please enlighten me.
To answer your third paragraph, I would really hope you do not presume to speak for the thoughts and actions of Lord Ar'Daumon.
Many months ago, when I first pondered challenging, Lord Ar'Daumon and I discussed my stance, both political and personal. Since that time he and I discussed this matter on a few occasions... and since you were not privy to those conversations, you should not attempt to speak of what was "more likely."
In answer to your fourth and fifth paragraphs, I am believe you need to re-read the sentence where I state that the choice is clearly his... which along with the statement above would indicate, to someone not seeking more reasons to cast insults, that I in no way will seek to sway Lord Eros to interceed or not. In no way did I ever indicate it might be a right of mine.
In answer to your sixth paragraph, again you take a simple statement and drag it out of proportion to give insult. My own words are again clearly statements that indicates there is currently no reason for me not to be Loyal, and many reasons for me to be Loyal.
In answer to your seventh paragraph, it is common for the serving lads to lay odds on a challenge match, then individual patrons would bet against each other based upon those odds.
Since you seem to believe you know me so well, how about you take that bet against me? You take the side that indicates I remain Loyal for protection so I may either challenge or simply change my loyalties after the tournament winner duels Lord Eros, and I will take the side that indicates I remain Loyal out of friendship and respect for Lord Eros' current stance.
I'll even make it better for you... For the next four dueling cycles, if I ever so much as say I will challenge for the crown, you win the bet.
At the odds, the hundred thousand crowns I will win will go far to aiding the people of Haaristad.

Adonai,

It was Cletus who stated that your Loyalty was conditional, not I. A common mistake, but just thought Id point that out.

Perusing the usual whine drivel, laughs softly, pens a short note tacking it to the cork.

Madame Silvertree,

If t'was yuir intent wast to elicit a comment from me, why dinna thee simply ask, instead 'o requesting me ta place a bet wi' th kids fer thee? T'would mayhap that would hae taken common sense, of which thee seem to be in short shrift.

Tis nae fer me ta enlighten thee, Madame, open yuir own eyes.

I certes dinna presume to speak fer Lord Ar'Daumon, he hae a penchant fer speakin' right well fer 'imself, or hae thee forgotten th', Madame. I wouldst also suggest thee do nae presume wh' I may or may nae hae been privy ta, Madame.

Thee clearly stated, "The rules themselves clearly state it is his choice." Tis perhaps thee shouldst more clearly read thine own jottings.

Madame, thine loyalties hae already been shown to be divided, tis I hae little doubt they shall be further divided. Thee hae on more than one occasion shown displays of pique when thee werena coddled, tis a fair presumption thee shall continue in th' manner.

Tis amusing the wager thee offer, Madame. T'would require that I be in thine company, night and day for the next four cycles, and rest assured, Madame, tis an 'onor, I decline.

Madame, I hae nae need to accept thine wager, tis I rarely accept a sucker bet, particularly from a sucker. Perchance if the people of Haaristad be in need, I wouldst be most happy to donate twice one hundred gold sovereigns for their betterment from mine own funds. The resort moon hast done verra well this season and profits remain well above expectations.

::smirks to himself and pens a quick reply to several of the past missives::

Madame Starfare,

I believe I can assure you with no amount of misthought that if I wished not to be loyal to the crown....I would not be. I held this ring before and defended it myself from five challengers...and will most likely do so again...Loyal or no.
My loyalty has nothing to do with protection. It has everything to do with respect for the man holding the crown. Should someone else be holding it that I deemed unworthy, or in a sudden fit of insanity Lord Eros became something that he is not....I would be a renegade, as I deem the alignment of neutrility to be somewhat pointless.
Essentially I'm surprised you'd even attempt to cast me in that light. I stand on my own two feet madame....I always have and always will. I need, nor ask for the protection of anyone. So....with my apologies....I'll have to appraise you that your vague perusal that I would go loyal to the crown in some vain hope of protection is horridly incorrect.
And to Magnus...my apologies...it was Cletus....but I had mistaken myself in my writing. A not uncommon error to be sure.

Just to put in something about what Khrysta said...

No matter as commoner or Warlord, Swordsman or Grand Master, Master at Arms or Baron, I will stand in my heart completely loyal to Marzan as he be a friend and Overlord. I have found him a great man with dignity and respect in which he holds the highest honor for the community and duelers within. I am not the first, and hopefully, now the last to say that Eros Hunrai Marzanhe DeBurgo is a loyal and trustworthy man.

Never the last. If I should take a ring during his Overlordship, I would most likely align as Loyal myself. Marzan and I are good friends, and he has stood by me staunchly during my illness as well.

As my name was brought up in the commencement of this arguement I shall pen my thoughts...First of all, I did ask Lord Eros why he did nae cheer for me...His response was most distateful to mine ears...it was more along these lines more or less.."You and Adonai are both my friends, thus I did nae cheer"..now that is not an exact qoute but I interpreted as the Overlord was in fact both a friend to Adonai and myself...and
the manner in which he responded dashed my spirits to pieces..he seemed to think that it did nae matter to him if the challenger or his Loyal Baron won the match because he was almost certain that he would gain Loyalty either way...now I am probably wrong in assuming this because Eros and myself are great friends..but my dear Overlord, I would have expected a more heartfelt and genuine response. Also, Adonai and myself were once friends..something I
don't know still withstands within his own heart, but I have one question Adonai, one question with many
parts...Why? You asked me when Lord Dalamar, (my the gods keep him if he be alive or dead) was the reigning Overlord what my alignment was...I told you Renegade and you replied good because you did nae want to remove a Loyal to replace a Loyal...now this poses a most interesting twist...You say that you did not care for Lord Dalamar's methods and that was why you went Renegade the first time you had the Seventh...(along with your "boredom" at not
being challenged) However the tides of time ebbed and flowed and Eros became Overlord..and I went Loyal, yet you did something you said ye did not want and ye pressed challenge to replace a Loyal with a Loyal...I have no idea what flows through your head, but it is quite perplexing, you seem to be running circles around yourself..however, I have more questions..these can be discussed at a later time.

Let me also add before outrage erupts that I donnae fault the Overlord in his decision for he did offer his graces even after my defeat but I just did not agree too well with the way the answer to my question was given.

Lord Dragonsblade:

Has it occurred to you, in the midst of your self-pity and your search for someone else to blame for it, that the Overlord did not cheer for either of you because, being friends with you both, did not wish to OFFEND either of you?

Nobody thinks of it if a Warlord, or a commoner, or even an unranked dueler chooses not to cheer for one side or the other. But the Overlord? Why, if he takes a neutral stance, it MUST be a political move!

Pathetic.
