Retirement of the 2nd Ring (AJ)
From: ajaybird2@aol.com (AJaybird2)

Take this missive at once m' Servant and deliver to those that I 'ave instructed.......Once ye 'ave done that.......go to the corkboard and post a copy so that all in RhyDin may read it if they so choose. Once you've completed these tasks you are to go to the Arena where ye shall m' wife Sher. There, from that point forward ye shall gaurd her w' your very life. Now go Aberon.......go!!
Overlord Eros, Council of Barons, Esteemed Standings Keeper,
I am sure you all 'ave been witness to the fact of m' poor attendance within the Arena rings these last few months which is the reason I 'ave asked m' servant to take to writing down this very important letter. As most, if not all of you know, I 'ave 'ad the honor and privilege of serving under four different Overlords......Leto, Athlstan, Dal, and Marzan. I 'ave seen many things, accomplished much, and above all else 'ave developed some
deep friendships within this realm. I 'ave on occasion differed with a few of you on issues of great importance, 'ave made mistakes in regard to the 'andling of affairs as a Baron but through it all I can honestly say that I've not lost respect for you. I can only 'ope that you feel the same.
Friends, Peers, recently some 5 months ago I became ill. It was an acute and sudden illness and it went away after a short time. I discounted it. I continued with m' daily activities of rising at 4 AM, tending to the herd, doing m' chores on the farm, catering to M'lady Sher whenever I could, and trying to further m' skills w' m' blade-play. But then, it became harder and harder to continue w' m' way o' life. I denied what was 'appening
and whenever M'lady would ask what was wrong or why didn't I feel like dueling that evening' I would casually dismiss the question w' an offhanded answer as, "I'm just a bit tired M'lady....and besides I'd rather not share your company w' the others m' beautiful." I think she knew something other than being tired was the problem. She is a very perceptive woman. Just ask Cygnet if you ever cross paths with the fallen angel.
Now, some 5 months later I find that I am unable to do many o' the things that I love. One o' the most notable 'o things is m' inability to any longer grip and object tight enough to keep 'old of. After m' last defense, I spent some 4 days in bed recuperating from just a 5 round duel with the honorable Roland, dueled the night before and could only take to drinking w' the aid o' 'm wife for I could not 'old 'pon a cup.
Thus, I know what I must do. I must return to m' homeland where I shall be putting m' faith and trust in the hands o' the healers from that which God hath crafted. I 'ave never wished to retire while being a Baron, but I feel that for the good of DoS this is the course o' action that I must take. I 'ave directed m' wife to meet with m' Elven friend Spikushell the evening of February 19th at 9 PM to hand the ring o'er to her so that she along
w' Sher may present it to the O'lord whom I trust will present it on m' behalf to RDI Golden so as to allow this very symbol o' honor and prestige to be entered as a prize for the upcoming Warlord Tournament.
I 'ope that through the Grace of God, I shall one day soon return to these hallowed halls to once again duel w' pride, duel w' honor, and most of all duel w' friends. If m' skill level is appropriate as well as m' character being of proper worth I may once again take up to challenging but only time will tell.
Yours prayers are welcomed and appreciated.
With Honor and Humbleness,
AJay Bird
Husband to Sher

AJay my friend,
It is with great sadness that I read your missive. You are a good man, who has always stood for what he thought was right. You have served as an excellent example of both good sense and good sportsmanship, and in your reign as Baron you have demonstrated your superb skill. I had the pleasure of dueling you in my first challenge, and you did your best to make it as enjoyable and educational an experience for me as possible. I thank you for being a
friend to me and to others, and for being a positive example within the rings. You will be missed.

M'Lord AJay..... Baron Bird, for you shall always be such within my thoughts.....
Please forgive me if I ramble, but I am at a loss for words. I shall try to place my thoughts here, but I fear that no matter the words they won't be enough.
For as long as I have resided within RhyDin, you and Sher have been constant. You have been good and true friends, helping me through my life to find my way. Because of the love and friendship we have shared I have grown to love this place, and these people. I pray to Kaewynn that you recover, AJay.... I pray with all my heart, soul and being that I have. I pray for strength for Sher during this time, and for you as well. Be together. Love one
another. Know, as well, that I love you both.... deeply.
Fare Thee Well My Friend......

Ajay,
I am deeply sorry that you are leaving, but if you feel that it is best, it most likely is. You were most likely the best Baron to ever walk the Arena, and you shall be remembered. May your journeys be well, and may you one day come back to grace the rings with your presence.

May the legend of your reign as a baron be whispered to Lady Noelle's and my children, Lord Ajay Bird, for you are one whom I hold much respect for.

Baron:
I will not write overlong; my sentiments may be offered in few words.
You have served honorably, and given the time you have served, this fate is a fitting one for the ring you so long held with honor, courage, and perseverance. As testament to your ability to retain your position, it is worth noting that even with my long absence from the council... your tenure did, indeed, overlap with my last ring.
May you know peace, and recover thy strength.

I have sensed something has been wrong with AJ for a few months now. He told me that it was all in my mind, but, as most of you already know, I am a reader of the minds, (though I don't use it very often), and can tell when something is wrong, or when I am being lied to. Even if the lie is for my own good, as it was in this case.
It seems that AJ has been sick for a while now.....I think it has something to do with the curse that his brother had put on him as a young man, but that has yet to be determined. He tires very easily and can't seem to grip anything, and that is the main reason that he hasn't been around the Arena to duel...he can't hold his sword.
I have limited healing abilities and my attempts have done nothing in the way of healing him. So we think it best that he go to Ballentyne to meet with the royal healers to see if they can find out what is aflicting him and heal him as I can't seem to do.

Baron Ajay... for to me, you shall always be a Baron...
I am proud to have known you... to have spoken with you... to have worked with you in service as a caller for the Duel of Swords... and, even for so short a time, to have been a Loyal Baron along side you.
You have been a man many have measured themselves against, and will always be so.
It is my most reverent prayer that you shall one day return to us, whole and hale.
