1. First, everyone's score was "Zeroed Out," meaning that all losses were subtracted from wins, and ties were dropped. Those who had less than 1 win remaining (a total of 456 duelers) were dropped.

2. Next, all those who hadn't dueled during the 7/30/97 - 9/30/97 cycle were removed (a total of 61 duelers).
