Results of the Challenge for the Sixth Baronial Ring

Post by DoS Archive » Wed Sep 29, 2004 6:44 pm

From: rdityger@aol.com (RDI Tyger)

On the evening of March 17, I, Jaycynda Ashleana, did witness and officiate the challenge for the Sixth Baronial Ring of the Duel of Swords. Lord Gunthar did issue, and then press challenge to the current holder, Loyal Baron Cassius Gaius Maximius.

Last evening Gunthar dueled under his home colors of black and gold. The lord Fantasy RC stood as his Second, and he named no Lady of Honor.

The Baron stood under the colors of House Dragoon-Talanador, and under the standard of the Roman Empire: a two headed eagle surrounded by a half circle olive wreath, holding in its talons a bundle of arrows. Underneath are the Latin letters "S P Q R" inscribed in gold. Daelin Dragonsblade stood as his second, substituting for Gnort Dragoon-Talanador, and his wife, Laylla Angelique Maximius, was his
Lady of Honor.

The Overlord did choose to step in for his Loyal Baron, and the Baron Cletus Ganderfald did step in on behalf of the challenger.

That match went as follows.

Round One:
Beginning cautiously, the Baron chooses defense, hoping to take an early positional advantage in the ring. However, his sidestep takes him into the path of the Overlord's
low cut.
(( FSS/LC ))
One to Zero, Marzan

Round Two:
Again the Baron and Overlord move to take a point over the other, but as both attempt to counter something that never comes, the score remains the same.
(( SH/SH ))
One to Zero, Marzan

Round Three:
It is a round of defense, ladies and gentlemen, as Marzan moves to protect his legs from injury and Cletus completely disengages.
(( CP/FDis ))
One to Zero, Marzan

Round Four:
Once again the Baron moves to counter a strike that never comes, and watches as Marzan simply reverses his defense, to protect his upper body.
(( LP/SH ))
One to Zero, Marzan

Round Five:
The time to attack has become this moment, and so both Baron and the Overlord take to the offense... However, the Overlord's thrust proves swifter, striking Cletus
before the Baron can strike Marzan's legs.
(( LC/TH ))
Two to Zero, Marzan

Round Six:
Both gentlemen continue the attack... However, Cletus' attempt at a risky slash fails, Marzan's low cut taking the point.
(( LC/SL ))
Three to Zero, Marzan

Round Seven:
After two rounds of offensive maneuvering, both Baron and Overlord return to caution.... However, Cletus' fancy duck is as pointless as Marz's sidestep.
(( FDU/SS ))
Three to Zero, Marzan

Round Eight:
Perhaps knowing the score to be heavily against him, Cletus is forced to rethink..
But that is only a guess. However, as he does commit, and move in... Marzan is ready, his timely defense denying the cut.
(( LC/CP ))
Three and a half to Zero, Marzan

Round Nine:
Again Cletus takes the cautious road, dropping down to avoid an attack... And it is as pointless as before as Marzan steps away once more.
(( FDU/SS ))
Three and a half to Zero, Marzan

Round Ten:
Again Marzan moves on the defense, hoping to keep any positional advantage he can... And so he does, again scoring as he turns away Cletus' thrust.
(( CP/TH ))
Four to Zero, Marzan

Round Eleven:
Defensive maneuverings have been working for the Overlord this latter part of the match... And again it proves to work for him as he ducks under Cletus' skilled parry.
(( DU/FCP ))
Four and a half to Zero, Marzan

Round Twelve:
A break in the scoring as both Cletus and Marzan move to counter nothing.
(( SH/SH ))
Four and a half to Zero, Marzan

Round Thirteen:
Marzan only needs one more advantage to take this match, and he tries to gain it...
However, in sidestepping, he moves right into the Baron's high cut.
(( SS/HC ))
Four and a half to One, Marzan

Round Fourteen:
This duel has been long, and Marzan has been conserving his strength. Now, he attempts to end it... but his counter-strike is ill-timed as Cletus reverses his cut and strikes for another point.
(( SH/LC ))
Four and a half to Two, Marzan

Round Fifteen:
The Baron must move cautiously, planning his strikes carefully... However, even as he tries to catch the Overlord off-guard, Marzan takes this duel, cutting low before Cletus can slash.
(( LC/SL ))
Five and a half to Two, Marzan

At that point, the challenger took to the ring, to face the Overlord. The second match went as follows.

Round One:
The gentlemen begin the dance, Marzan stepping in the ring for the second time tonight. They start out cautiously, but Gunthar's fancy duck gains him the full point advantage over Marz's opening circular parry.
(( FDU/CP ))
One to Zero, Gunthar

Round Two:
Again the Overlord chooses not to overtly strike out, instead opting for defense...
However, this time his choice fails him as his high parry is too high to block Gunthar's incoming cut.
(( FLP/LC ))
Two to Zero, Gunthar

Round Three:
The Overlord might have been saving his strength for this duel, as he is holding very little back now. However, once again, his stepping scores nothing as the challenger
has fancily ducked away.
(( FSS/FDU ))
Two to Zero, Gunthar

Round Four:
For the first time in this duel, Marzan takes to the attack, trying to gain one of those two points... And so he does, striking a high cut as Gunthar futilely stop hits.
(( HC/SH ))
Two to One, Gunthar

Round Five:
Again Marzan counts on his fast feet to take him away from any attack and even the score. And as Gunthar parries low, he does just that.
(( FSS/CP ))
Two to Two

Round Six:
Marzan has brought the score even, and now he seeks to take a lead for the first time in this duel. Gunthar, for his part, seeks to deny him... However, his fancy sidestep takes him right into the path of the Overlord's high cut.
(( FSS/HC ))
Three to Two, Marzan

Round Seven:
And now the roles are reversed, Marzan moving to the defense while Gunthar strikes.
However, the Overlord's low parry cannot stop Gunthar's high cut, and the score is tied once more.
(( CP/HC ))
Three to Three

Round Eight:
This has been a hard battle, no doubt tiring on both men. As they both move to defend, each seeks to gain position... However, Marz outdances Gunthar's attempt, literally.
(( FLP/FSS ))
Four to Three, Marzan

Round Nine:
It has been a long evening... but the evening is over, the dance is no more. Gunthar's attempt at a slash goes unfinished as the Overlord takes the last point,
high cutting, to defend the Baron's title.
(( HC/SL ))
Five to Three, Marzan

Thus the Overlord, Eros Hunrai Marzanhe DeBurgo, successfully defended Cassius Gaius Maximius' right to bear the Sixth Ring of the Duel of Swords.
Signed and sealed,

Looking through the notes,as usual, occassionally beating his head on the wall, also as usual,he reads of the Challenge.Sighing,he mumbles to himself.
"Well,that's it then,isn't it?Goodbye,Cas."
Having not written a word on the subject,he walks away from the boards for another hour or two.

Gentles,

If I am nae mistaken, the Baron Cletus Ganderfald didst declare his stance unto the Overlord ast Neutral. Prithee, then why wast he allowed to step in on behalf of the warlord Gunthar in the matter of the challenge presented by the warlord, Gunthar unto the Loyal Baron, Cassius Gaius Maximus? The Overlord hast the prerogative and the right to intercede on behalf of his Loyals, howe'er, again the rules of engagement hae be blithely flouted and set
aside. The rules of engagement clearly state that the Renegades may intervene for a challenger in a "Test of Worthiness", yet no such option ist granted unto Neutral Barons.

Prithee, save hae Cletus Ganderfald declared himself to be renegade prior to setting foot in the ring last eve, or hae the Overlord, Eros Hunrai Marzanhe DeBurgo declared said Baron to be renegade, the match betwixt Cletus Ganderfald and Eros DeBurgo wast improper by the rules of engagement.

Prithee, the Council and Master Evermeadow may wish to look into this challenge, ast well ast to consider that the official what didst call the match may hae permitted wittingly or unwittingly, an improper duel to proceed.

Yes, perhaps Jonalyn is right. There seems to be a mistake in the rules. It doesn't say anything about neutrals interceding on the behalf of a warlord which the overlord intercede's for his baron. Maybe I missed it somehow, but I didn't see it when I looked. Mayhaps, Cletus' challenge was illegal since it was not in the rules. (That I saw, could've skipped it)

You caught a nice point Jonalyn. And I agree in parts. But, I think a neutral would be allowed to intercede for a challenger if'n the overlord interceded for his baron. Makes a bit of sense to me. Though it wasn't in the rules that I saw. We shall see.

Pauses as she reads the part where Drey writes, " But, I think a neutral would be allowed to intercede for a challenger if'n the overlord interceded for his baron." Then arches a brow. Finally scribbles at the bottom of Drey's note:

Then Drey, what be ta difference between a Renegade and a Neutral? What be ta point of declaring yaself neutral if ya just gonna run around behaving like a Renegade?

To the one addressing me, Summer,

Mayhaps Cletus was giving the overlord a chance for his loyalness. If he interceded on behalf of the baron, he would realign himself renegade along with interceding for the warlord. And I'm not sure, but I believe Cletus was a friend and still maybe. But, the point is, just like Magnus did, Cletus awaited that move from Eros. Eros interceded, now expect Cletus to become renegade. Though, I think it to be silly to go neutral after his brother
did the same and learned his lesson that Eros will intercede. But, that's just my prediction. I'm very likely to be wrong.

To those bickering here.

Lady Morgan has the right of it. Baron Gimzak was -Neutral- when he stepped in for the challenger Huma, against Eros, who was defending a Loyal Baron.
It was not until much later that Baron Gimzak became a Renegade Baron.
However, Mister Starke has a valid point. The rules do indeed state that a Baron may step in during a "Test of Worthiness." However, a "Test of Worthiness" is -clearly- defined as the Overlord "testing" a challenger to the Crown, not to a Baron.
Myself, other members of the Staff, and certain of the more respected members of the community are looking into this matter for future reference.

Will someone please explain ta' me just what the HELL "more respected members of the community" means?!

Am I ta' believe that just because 'lil old Drake-cakes has a tin suit on and a shiny RDI badge, she has the mental or moral capacity ta' decide who is more respected?
Hell babe, I ain't even a legal dueler right now and I'm a hell of alot more respected in most circles than yer whole staff. That of course is fer people "In the know" and who have thier "VIP passes" and are on the "Corporate plan."

Please Drake, Let me know when the "more respected members" of our community look inta' this, cause I better be on that list, otherwise ya' just showed the whole community that as an RDI, ya' have some heavily biased opinions of who is worthy and respected and who isn't, we don't need biased or self important RDI's, we have enough patrons like that.

Heavily respected... You know, people like G'nort and everyone in House Dragoon-Talandor. Who else would someone need to ask?

Bah. No one's asked me about it.

Of course, I probably only fit the qualification of being in HDT, and not the heavily respected one.

Drey and the rest of the communty,

My choice to interceed last night had little to do with my stance on the Overlord, but more on my stance with intercession. My stance to Eros is the same as it has been all along...that of neutral. I may disagree with a few of his choices, but I can not go Renegade to a man who has defended his title on 3 occasions, and attempting a fourth, without the Test of Worthiness.

If Overlord Eros has a problem with me standing up against the test, and wishes me to be Renegade, all he must do is tell me this and I will change my alignment to suit.

For now, my alignment remains as it has been: Neutral.
