Results of the Challenge for the Crown

On March Nineteen, I, Jaycynda Ashleana, did witness and officiate the challenge brought forth from the Baron of the First, Cristian de Oro, to the Overlord, Eros Hunrai Marzanhe DeBurgo, for the crown of the Duel of Swords.

The Baron dueled under the flag of Brasil, and stood alone, with neither Second or Lady of Honor.

The Overlord dueled under the colors of red, black and gold. His Second is Leto of Covington, and his wife, the Lady Topaz DeBurgo stood as his Lady of Honor. He dueled for the honor of the House of Asgard and the Elven Kingdom of Eldicor.

It was a Best of Three Series last evening, and a grand event between two skilled duelers.

Match One was as follows.

Round One:
And so it begins. The Overlord begins on a cautious note, moving to protect himself... while the Baron moves to strike first blood. As they step in, Marzan moves to save himself low, and Cristian strikes high to score.

Round Two:
After a moment of thought, again both the Baron and Overlord move in to meet in the center. And as they both move in, they meet with dual low cuts, neither scoring.

Round Three:
Fluidly, the duelers appear to move as one, as they both anticipate an incoming attack. However, the pair of fancy ducks gives neither Baron or Overlord the advantage.

Round Four:
As they both rise from the last round, they again move together. Cristian takes to the attack, and so Marzan responds. However, his fancy sidestep moves him right into Cristian's high cut.

Round Five:
Having successfully struck last round, Cristian reverses directions. Marzan makes moves to counter, however, neither fancy circular parry does any harm.

Round Six:
The Baron and Overlord have made many similar moves thus far.. And so they do again, as they both strike true, scoring.

Three to one, Cristian

Round Seven:
Once again the Baron moves to strike, and again the Overlord seeks to defend. However, this time, unlike before, Marzan chooses correctly as his perfectly timed fancy circular parry denies the low cut.

Three to Two, Cristian

Round Eight:
The Overlord is a point behind, and he seeks to gain that, sweeping the blade out. However, it does nothing but meet Cristian's similar attempt, in the center.

Round Nine:
The Overlord has been waiting for his chance to gain the lost points, and believing he sees such a chance, moves in. His instincts are correct as Cristian fancily sidesteps into his low cut.

Round Ten:
The score is now tied, the dance half over. Both men seek to take a lead now. Cristian makes to counter the wrong attack, placing him perfectly for Marzan's reversed cut.

Round Eleven:
And so this first dance ends, on a strong note. Both strike, but neither remain unscathed, as they trade cuts this final round.

The Overlord did win the first duel, and after a rest period, both men did again enter the ring. The second match was as follows.

Round One:
Again we see the test of blades this night, and as with the last duel, the Baron moves in. However, his straightforward attack is denied by the Overlord's cautious beginning.

One half to Zero, Marzan

Round Two:
Now it is the Overlord who attacks, the Baron who chooses defensive measures. Cristian's fancy circular parry is right on target to, this round, deny the Overlord blood.

Round Three:
All night we have seen both Baron and Overlord think alike, perhaps they know each other well. And again, they do so, both fancily sidestepping.

Round Four:
We have seen this before. As a matter of fact, it was the end of the last duel, the Baron striking high, the Overlord low.

Round Five:
Marzan's counter strike proves pointless, as Cristian's defensive maneuver takes him out of range.

Round Six:
The Baron holds the advantage, and no doubt wishes to keep it. Marzan seeks to change that, however... But neither high cut gives the duelers a point.

Round Seven:
Speed is everything, when in the rings. A swift strike can mean the difference between victory and defeat... This round, Marzan's swifter strike scores, giving him a half point lead.

Two and a half to Two, Marzan

Round Eight:
Turnabout is fair play, as they say. This round it is the Baron's strike who proves swifter, in a reversal of the last rounds' roles.

Three to Two and a half, Cristian

Round Nine:
Back and forth, it has been these last few rounds. Again, the tide turns in the Overlord's favor as he thrusts again over Cristian's low cut.

Three and a half to Three, Marzan

Round Ten:
The Overlord has taken several strikes to the upper body, it must be hurting, even a little. Again the Baron moves to strike high, and hits. But as he does, he again finds a return strike low.

Four and a half to Four, Marzan

Round Eleven:
As the last duel ended in this many rounds, this one... does not. Cristian once again takes the lead as his fancy duck scores the full point over the Overlord's defense.

Five to Four and a half, Cristian

Round Twelve:
Both men might be getting tired, yet the dance goes on. Cristian makes his move, as does Marzan. And so it continues as their dual thrusts bring the score higher.

Six to Five and a half, Cristian

Round Thirteen:
Seeking to regain his lost advantage, Marzan moves to defend. Cristian presses his attack... and in doing so, his low cut strikes the fancy ducking Overlord, to take this second match.

Seven to Five and a half, Cristian

Thus the series stood at One duel for each, and after a final rest period, the Overlord and Baron entered the ring for the third duel. That match was as follows.

Round One:
For the third time this evening, I call the beginning of the dance. Cristian moves in, seeking to begin this last duel strongly... Unfortunately for him, his attack is met, and countered.

Round Two:
Perhaps both Baron and Overlord wish to end this soon, it has been a long evening. Now, as the Overlord takes his turn to thrust straightforward, Cristian scores the point.

Round Three:
The damage done so far must be brutal on both men, but as I am not in the ring, I cannot be sure. Again, for the fourth time tonight, Marzan receives a hit high,
and Cristian low.

Two to Two

Round Four:
There is very little being held back, this last duel of the evening. Both Baron and Overlord reverse their strikes, scoring again.

Three to Three

Round Five:
Defense is not an option for these men, right now, they both wish to win. And as they both hope to get ahead, the score remains tied.

Four to Four

Round Six:
It is now four to four, the score is tied.... should one make a wrong move, we have a winner. Each man has won a duel, is this to be the deciding round? Yes, it is. Marzan moves to strike, and in doing so, he meets Cristian's perfectly timed parry, and thus we have a new Overlord.

Five to Four, Cristian.

Cristian de Oro, former holder of the First, was indeed successful in his challenge for the crown, and is thus named the Thirtieth Overlord of the Duel of Swords. The new Holder of the First, Eros Hunrai Marzanhe DeBurgo, as well as the Baron of the Sixth, Cassius Gaius Maximius, did both declare themselves Loyal to the new Overlord at this time.

T'was an eve to remember, nae only a display of masterful and skilled bladesmanship, t'was thine gracious presence and manner after thine success that does indeed honor the long traditions held dear by those of us who remember. May the burden of the mantle rest lightly upon thine shoulders.

Cristian,

Congratulations to you for you fine and excellent victory in a close and grueling match. It was well fought and well won. Whether your rein be long or short, may you get all you desire from the title and give all you can to the community.

Marzan,

I will not offer condolence to you for your defeat. Instead I will congratulate you on three masterfully fought duels, one of which was lost in overtime and one of which can only be described as a superb slugfest. You have lost the title nearly as dramatically as you won it, and you have increased your own honor and fame in the valiant battle. May your next path, whichever direction it takes you, bring you further honor.

Cristian~

Trust me in this...this will not be easy. It will not even be kind of hard. Your tenure as Overlord will find your honor being questioned, your friendships being torn apart, and your private life turned into a political fiasco.

However, my lord, this is one of the few positions where you can make a difference in the Community. And, you will have support in the hard times.
