It is close approaching the two year anniversary of when I first became a Warlord in teh Duel of Swords.
I became the 170th ever Warlord in the Duel of Swords on 4/15/97 along with Joby, Marzan and Zaradda, who all became that rank on the same date as I. There are only a few who remain that were Warlords before I. And what I've seen in the past two years as I have held that rank, and as the Rank of Baron three times in those two years, hasn't impressed me much. At least, not
like it had when I was a Commoner or other rank.
The first year, or just therein, was a rather calm year. But the second simply doesn't stand out. Unless you consider petty bickerings, arguements, and namecallings as standing out.
These are just a few observations in my time as Warlord.
Past is gone, Future is bleak.

With all due respect, G, I have to disagree with your statement that the future is bleak. I think that things have settled down a bit. Granted, I have spoken up in the majority of the arguments, chances are there will be more. However, I feel that as a group, things have calmed down.
This doesn't mean that there won't ever be arguments ever again. Heck, I'd bet more that there will be plenty of arguments in the future, but that doesn't make things bleak.
I think, overall, that credit should be given to the community as a whole, considering what has gone on in the past.

Hmm...I guess I kind of forget what it was like two years ago when I made Warlord right around when Gnort did. I do remember the following few things however, some positive, some negative.
There was a "standings error" that really was my own fault, although I did raise a big fuss about it. I'm stil mad Devon didn't tell me about it, but I guess I'm over it now that I've got ~40 WoL. No big deal.
The Overlords changed frequently, and I think we'll see it to start to happen again. Marzan looked like he might have held on longer, but in the end he was like most other Overlords that their skill was great enough to get them there, but not hold out against all the other factors in dueling numerous challenges. Leto was the Overlord when I came, and was deposed within the first couple weeks by Kal. Kal was knocked down by the next tourney winner,
Ath. Ath didn't even survive that long before Dal. That was all in about a 6 (?) month span after my arrival in February.
The main question here is: Is the rotation of Overlords good? Well, I'd be the first to say the length of Dal's reign was a bit long. But on the other hand, I'd like to see people that are able to hold off numerous challenges before going down, and survive more than 3 months at the top. But from what I hear the stress of the position will nearly kill you, and I think Dal may have had a negative impact on the community by letting that stress
impact his decisions which could effect the community.
Getting back to other good/bad things:
The really annoying new duelers weren't as big of a problem. I arrived partly due to the lowering of tarriffs, so I'm wondering just how many more like me that would normally be interested in this, just unable to make inquiries into the region due to the heavy taxes, then not really noticing when the taxes are lifted. Perhaps. Maybe I was just among them and never really figured "it" out until a few months later. Who knows?
The bickering on the board, once I had start to read it normally, was just as bad in the case of challenges made due to bad blood, but I certainly think the day to day bickering about every issue that seems to be rampant was not there. Also, there seemed to be a lot less posting overall. Recently, I have skipped whole sections of the board with great frequency, since they all seem to be the same bickering over and over. Maybe if I actually read
them, I'd find out I'm wrong. Another "Who knows?", and I don't really care.
So can I be officially considered an "old-timer" once I've been Warlord for two years? I hope not. Next to some here, I seem like a spring chicken. Next to others I am part of the stereotype of the "old-folks". I'm inclined to believe the former, myself.
What is the future like? Will the next year be just as good as the past two? That's not for anyone to know or guess at. My feeling is that with Dalamar gone, there will be much less factional fighting, but the trend has leaned towards unneccessary fighting, which is definitely a bad sign.

Ian hadn't even heard of DoS,
it was the age of Maxx,
Jeff hadn't grown a beard yet,
Jona was only on her 5th husband (( ;) )),
Elijah had never retired or died yet,
Sierra Redwin was the undying example of womanhood,
Falon was only %95 weenie,
Kairee was queen,
Falire hadn't discovered prosac,
Gloin was (and is) the fastest caller ever,
BINZO was (and is) the toughest commoner ever,
Cymranger was (and ever will be) a man to admire,
Amaltea and Xeno were the hot couple,
Fancies garnished a .5 advantage,
There were no barons,
There were about 10-12 warlords,
There was no arena, only a tiny members only room,
There was no DOM,
Simini was the guava queen,
Dueling houses and schools meant *something*,
It was so exhilirating to just be in the room......

Once, I believe she called all eleven in the que at once... and I believe I had the privladge of being one of those twenty two duelists.
