Challenge to the Seventh
From: ixdaelinxi@aol.com (IXDaelinXI)
Date: 02 Apr 1999 14:36:10 EST
This is a copy of the missive I sent to Baron Uziel and the concerned parties. I now replicate it for the general public to view since I feel that it concerns them as well..
I write this missive today to hereby press my right to challenge. I exercise this right upon Baron Adonai Uziel, current holder of the Seventh Ring. Many things have caused me to make this decision. First of all, while the former Baron of the Seventh, Damon Black and myself were undergoing a challenge to be fought between us..Baron Uziel declared that the Seventh ring was *his*. Even though it rested on twelve other fingers including his own and
changed hands sixteen times..I cannot see something with half as many owners be truly one persons...And even if Baron Uziel does in fact believe the ring to be his, this would lead him to use it for himself and not for the sport, to which the ring really belongs. If this is the case, I ask why you hold the ring Baron? Secondly, I once believed the Baron to be my friend, but then I found out he attempted to sabotage our match for the ring..He bribed
the Overlord at the time to not offer intercession to me if I did ask. Unfortunately for the Baron, I have never been an advocate of Intercessions or the Test of Worthiness (as I feel if no man can defend their title they should not have the title..unless they are unable to defend because of temporary ailment) so I asked the Overlord to not step in before the Baron attempted this deal. This I feel was a betrayal of my honor and trust to a man whom I
had once seen as a friend and attempted to sabotage me...Thirdly, A good friend of mine, who was sick at the time of my challenge bade me to reclaim the ring if I could and I promised him I would..he wanted to himself but he was sick, eventually he got better and challenged the Baron..that friend is Percival Marchand de Clermont..although he did what he wanted me to do, and sadly, lost..I plan to fufill my promise for him and myself. A list of Peer
Wins that I base this challenge on follows and I will await the verification of them from Lady Silvertree before we commence a discussion of particulars and dates, Baron Uziel...
Peer Wins:
1. Sir Percival Marchand de Clermont, the Warlord. 5-2 in 7 rounds called by RDI Khrys, 3/5/99 ((LeDucBlanc))

Lord Daelin,
I will be brief. Since your loss of the Seventh to me you have consistently cast about for reasons to find me dishonoring you, or for reasons why you lost. The reasoning is simple. You could not match me.
As I tire of coddling you...as I am sure many others in the community do as well I will accept your challenge and meet it upon this next Saturdays eve at 9 by the eastern skies. I will procure a caller for said event by that time.
And as far as *bribing* the Overlord for non intercession. What is the matter of me asking him not to if your such a staunch supporter of non intercession? Where is the slight of asking that the Crown not to interfere if you yourself would not have asked them to do so in the first place. Do not lie to me....nor to these people here. And do not cast questions upon my honor to justify your challenge. Which is no more than an attempt to beat
that which has always surpassed you.
Yes....I do consider the Seventh mine boy. Jeff and Ellisa do not contest my claim.....and Ulath ni Fici....first bearer of its honor, and a friend of mine in the past....would not look unkindly upon my claiming it so. So....now that I have shot plenty of holes in your dreadfully thin argument....
....Challenge accepted, prepare yourself.

Uzie Poo,
I should think tis impossible to dishonor thee. One hast to hae a modicum 'o honor within oneself to hae it besmirched. Thee hae proven time and time agin that thee hae none. Odd thee mention Ulath n Fici, rumored to be deceased. Tis much ast thee make mention now and agin of those that 'supported' thee, most of whom hae nae e'en heard of thee. Thine overblown sense of self importance wouldst be truly comical if it were nae that tis ought but
the pathetic ploy of a truly insecure personage.

Jonalyn,
Very simply. Your boring.
I did know Ulath ni Fici, and called him friend as well. Your ignorance of THIS fact shows you to be what everyone already knows you are. A simpering elitist twit with no true knowledge of what she speaks. Ask Lord OakenShield about he, Ulath and I dueling for the titles of Overcookie sometime, you demented old never was.
And even more simply. Stay out of business that is above you...a scullion fishwife has no business in these matters. Truly tis quite evident why Gavilean can only deal with you in the measured doses he takes.
I will argue with you nor bait and name call further with you. Your words are meaningless old woman....and not a single person here takes anything you say as truth, wit, or heartfelt. Be they ever honored duelist, or part of the *OathBreaker* club....which is something that is totally of your own invention and I doubt anyone really cares who is in it, all know that when Jonalyn speaks, its time to discuss the weather amongst themselves.
Yawning, as usual,

With all due respect, Adonai, but one issue I'd like to mention here is that I agree with Daelin when he disagrees whether or not you should refer it as "your" ring. The ring represents the title of baron, and the ring belongs to the Duel of Swords. You have fought for the right to wear the title and the ring.
If the ring were indeed yours, you could do whatever you wanted with it, even sell it. While you may think it's a battle of semantics, the ring is a material possession, and any material possession that is yours, per se, could have anything done with it by the owner.
You shouldn't have to ask Ulath, or Jeff, or Ellisa if it's yours, because, to be honest, they have no say in it. Another debate as to whose it is could be read in the histories, regarding the "Misbegotten Seat". This is, ironically enough, the same ring you hold.
The rings belong to DoS. People may have made a legend of the ring, just as people have made legends in the arena. But surely, the arena is nobody's, except the DoS community.
That's just my opinion. I've never liked someone calling a Baron's ring "theirs" and thus am voicing such.

Var,
I must disagree. A ring belongs ta da baron who chooses ta defend it. It is deir's. Fer instance, da 8th Barons' ring is MY ring until such a time someone comes and takes it from my hand (no Summer doesn't count). I also believe it healthy ta consider a ring "yers" because it makes ya wanna defend it harder and by one's own skill. I am very vocal against barons hidin' behind da Overlord and anythin' dat makes 'em wanna defend deir own ring
more I'm all fer.

Very simply ye aire a pathetic, whimpering, whining, sniveling, twit. Only the rawest newcomer wouldst buy inta the drivel thee spout. Ast to knowing Ulath n Fici, Ulath wast dancing in the rings long afore thee hae wiped up the puddle of snot under thine nose. Ast to what Ulath may hae told me of thee afore his rumored demise, tis amusing thee wouldst believe he wouldst hae e'en bothered to make mention of thee.
I hae nae need to ask Jeffrey or Ulath about ye, laddie buck. The only simpering being done ist thine. Tis nae a realm wouldst permit thee ta set foot within it and likely nae anna lass of wit and taste what wouldst permit thee nigh. Do nae let yuir ignorance show so, twit. Gavilean and I both agree ast to precisely what thee aire, nothing but a blubbering baby, a boring, pathetic creature, a shining an example of the decline in the grandeur of
these ancient halls. If t'were nae fer thine comedic value, ye'd hae nae value atall.
Tis most amusing, thine usual selective memory, and tis well the wise nae follow history according to Uz. Tis do come up with some creative insults, twit, that is if thee hae the intelligence. Thine name alone ist an affront and thine claims to be "Dragon Lord of Rhydin", hilarious. Tis e'en more amusing that thee believe thineself to be other than a mere hiccup, a blot of spittle on the boot of history. Tis amusing thee wouldst consider me an
elitist. I should think that speaks eloquently of thine own inferiority complex. Do wander happily in thine delusions, Uzie Poo, tis clear thee needs must convince thineself of thine worth. I hae nae anna such need.

You know....
I recall some of the wild pranks and goofy nonsense Ulath, Rix, Jeff, Nova... and yes, Adonai, all carried on.
It seems to me that the eye witnesses would agree that Ulath and Adonai knew each other and were friendly rivals, if not indeed good friends.
Personally, I think we could do with more of those days. Sau and Adonai's pie wars... the "pairs sworddueling", whatever it was called... Dan Tigger bouncing around the rings...
What ever happened to the fun and cameraderie?
Oh yeah... most people don't teach that anymore, not even by example...
