Sir Ian,

I did not mean to limit the gaining of respect merely by winning duels and having a superior standing in the sport. There is, of course, and always will be the political aspect of things around here. Even in a more basic manner, there is the importance of simple courtesy in the rings. Yes, in the end, "the sword rules the day". But how that day will be remembered depends on the person ruling the blade.

Of course I would not start a veritble red scare concerning past veterans who return, that would be ridiculous. ::grins as he writes:: While some returning duelers may well have political motivations (we've seen many of these after the defeat of Ar'Daumon), some I'm sure return merely for the pleasure of being with old friends and enjoying the duel. One person that illustrates this in my mind, and please, sir, dont let me talk for you, is
BRK. I've always enjoyed his bluntness and pure enthusiasm for the sport. When he talks of coming back, I feel no need to ask "why".

Anyway, I just feel that all of this bickering about the past is unwarrented. Respect isnt earned merely from a name, or a statistic, it is earned by action and well forged words. I hope to stay honorable in the eyes of the community, as do most of us. Those that dont care what people think, when left alone, usually dont cause a problem.

Not sure where to end,
Sir Father Leo Caius Cassius Pride

Atleast you haven't giving up what you have always wanted togo for ,Tas. I find it hard to be motivated for anything anymore except just duel and have a drink with what is left of my comrades here.

~Ecore, the unmotivated.

I hope ye find somethin ta get ya motivated. For me it was the school. Just knowing I am helping the community is my inspiration. Hope ye have fun when ya visit the rings otherwise what else is there?

" Don't ever try and tell me what old-timer means if you weren't even there to understand those days. "

You would do a lot better if you did not make such assumptions.

Just because you do not see someone's name on the standings, it does not mean s/he was not a part of the community.

~"Just because you do not see someone's name on the standings, it does not mean s/he was not a part of the community."~

Well these are certainly words tha' cannot be stressed enow. The "newbie" one disdainfully regards on sight, might well carry the soul o' a long entombed warrior o' renowned contribution and talent. It's been known ta happen...sometimes nightly.--Just one more fascinating facet o' the sport, with humbling connotations.

If your name wasn't on the standings then you weren't dueling. Dueling is the start of entering this community. If you don't duel then you have no bussiness really commenting on this community. Just my opinion.

"If you don't duel then you have no bussiness [sic] really commenting on this
community."

I suppose, then, that those who do not act have no business commenting on the latest play; those who do not make music have no business commenting on the local bards; those who do not cook have no business commenting on dinner; and those who do not make and enforce laws have no business commenting on the status of civilization.

What's that I hear? The elitist bell ringing?

Anyone who spends time in a community, Ecore, is part OF that community, and has every right to comment on that community. The only way one can - in REASON - object to that ideology is if one is, indeed, an elitist, a tyrant, a dictator, or a self-important egoist. Since you claim to be none of the above, I truly am curious as to how you can possibly maintain that opinion.

Of course, by your own words, were Fandral Kurgan himself to suddenly make his thoughts known, he'd have no business doing so, as he does not duel. A strange paradox for you, I am sure.

I agree that just because someone does not "act as a major role" (the best way I can think to word it, though I think the readers know what I mean) in society, or in any other aspects, doesn't mean they have no right to hold and state an opinion regarding how things are in their eyes.
Granted, they may be mislead, not having the experience, but they still have the right to say what they want.
For example, I could say, "The arena four years ago seemed so wonderful" when I did not, in fact, duel in the arena four years ago. I could have heard stories about the arena four years ago and wrote the words, whether I'm wrong or not. If someone wanted to call me a fool for being mislead, then that's my problem.
However, I have a right as does anyone else, to say what I want. I also possess the ability, like everyone else, to be mislead. That doesn't mean all of us have to hold our tongues (or pens, for the sake of posting).

That's just my opinion.

Aye, Ian.

In simplest terms, I am saying even Bishop, by my own beliefs has no place commenting on the present. And simply for the fact he is not here, in the present, dueling. Why he is not here is for him to say as he wishes for that I will not speak on.

To the end I will always stand in what I believe in and what I believe should be the basic principles of this sport, its foundations as I know them. I may be wrong or I may be right, I don't care, its what I believe in and you have to go with what you believe in. Others have proven me wrong and others have championed my cause. Has it changed my mind? No. Has it changed my methods? Yes,

For those who may not understand my words or the implications of what I said at the very beginning of this post. I shall enlighten, I suggest you stop reading now if you really don't care and if you really do desire to know what "Ecore" is about then continue to read what I have to say.

Fandral Kurgan, a.k.a the Bishop((Shadowrun)), was my personal mentor of the duels along with my chapelmates, Simini, Aspendale, Rantom, and Branioc. For a long time I practically worshipped the man, and I respect him more then anyone else in the sport. I respect him because of the skill of his prime beyond just skills of the blade but of his psychological understanding of the dance itself. And beyond that the man had comradery about the rings
and fellowships with those that are legends to us old timers, and just old tales to others. If I could have been remotely like him ever in my career, not only would I have been more powerful perhaps, but I would have been dangerous. I still respect the man, and I love him like all my chapelmates who if they called upon me I would be there to risk it all for. And it pains me to reveal this, but yes, as I stated before at the beginning of this post
to in response to Ian by my beliefs I have said what I have said.

My mentor could speak volumes of his times here in the rings for those interested who would listen, for you would learn very much. Does that mean he knows of the present or he would be as effective in the present? I don't know, these are different times with different things happening in the community. He's not here, he's not experiencing the day to day life of the duels. Maybe he hear's from afar and keeps up with news, but does he feel the
pulse of the duels through his veins anymore? I wouldn't know. Do I or have I ever truly felt the pulse of this community? I doubt it, but I still try and ride the tide and see where it takes me. I barely have the time to visit enough currently to stay active though I am more active then others. Does that mean my voice has any weight? No, I am just a dueler, and one without title either. Does that mean I will shut my mouth or stop writing in
response to what's going on in this community? Heck no.

I know my soul is tainted and I've walked the fine edge from sanity's safety, but I like living this way. I just in one post complimented the one who I have the most respect for and at the same time called him out in a way. So there's your paradox, MacKenzie. I respected Dalamar very little, and liked him less, but I cannot deny his place in history. He's probably one of the greatest Overlords ever in the history of Swords, even though I didn't
like anything about his reign personally. And looks at poor Marzan, the one who did finally take out the longest ever Overlord in history only to get challenged by someone who doesn't and didn't during their reign enough WoLs to be a Warlord. Until Cris de Oro held the crown no Overlord had ever less then 15 WoLs to my recollection. And he had the nerve to challenge when as a Baron with less then 15 WoLs, he sought glory over overcoming a simple
basic standing. I respect Cris a lot as a man with the right ideals, but it sickens me to see someone who doesn't even qualify to be a Warlord use his title to challenge for the Supreme Dueler of Swords. Atleast Ford Prefect never tried anything like that when he had a failing record, he did his best to try and atleast improve his record to be of better standing befitting a Baron.

Is getting 15 WoLs so hard to get and even harder to keep? When I came back for a while I was able to regain Warlord without reinstating my old record just to see if I could still do it. Took me a little longer then the first time around, but it wasn't hard to even get over 20. I as a personal rule try to let those know who were my students to wait until they got atleast 25 WoLs, and definitely had a lot more peer wins then others had of you. I
am not saying my methods are best, but I would assume people who are already title holders would try to maintain the minim of 15 WoLs a Warlord needs, in addition to peer wins, to be able to challenge would follow suit atleast with as much of the criteria as they can.

That's where I am at this point in my career. I see the titles as being so tainted, not worth challenging for. I still like the Tournaments for the competition, but if I happen to win a prize, that's cool, it means I did allright when something was on the line. Yeah, so I have been Baron three times, I've also lost four Overlord matches. In fact I never defended any of my titles either. And so the irony of my WoLs record it just shows you that
on any given day any given dueler can beat any other given dueler in any given duel, history just remembers you best when you win or lose the ones where there is a title at stake. Those definitely have not been my shining movements. And I don't claim to have done or ever will claim to do any of the titles any better then the rest. I may have not liked they way a lot of people both Overlords and Barons, distinguished themselves in their reigns, but
I respect them all for simply gaining title atleast once, and even more if defending it once. I respect them for being atleast good sound dueling figures, and I like them based on their actions. Or dislike them for their behavior accordingly. Just as I am stubborn about disapproving and finding it insulting for people to use a Fancy on the first round of a duel. Times may have changed and the motivations of things, but basic customary traditional
honor of the rings I will always try and maintain. And well I think its just stupid for people to use a Fancy on an offensive maneuver, though if they want to waste them go ahead. I don't find that insulting though. Another paradox, MacKenzie.

But that's the duels, that's life, and that's Ecore, paradoxes that puzzle us everyday. I stop trying to figure the game out and I am just part of the game riding the wave now. I have no desire to be a title holder for the first time and its great. I am not apart of any political agenda or any political organizations, and I am having fun. I joined a TDL team to have some competitive fun against others of the sport. I am just for once a lone
dueler doing his own thing and enjoying what I can of the place. Good duels, good drink, and hopefully a few good dames. Yeah, I am still gonna speak my mind and if you don't want to listen then don't try and hear it. I am still the same as I always have been and haven't changed my mind or my views of what I believe in. For now I am trying to relearn the sport both in and out of the rings. But more importantly I am trying to find my groove of the
prime of my dueling. Actually to be better then I ever was, which wasn't that great. But I have my own standards and am interested in becoming one with the duel.

To atleast find the best of skill I can develop and become the my psychological demoralizing dueler as well. Like a simple saying I came up with in response to Gnort's 3:16;

Ecore 4:20 Slash those who would Fancy Duck.

I mean it mostly in a joking manner but it's been fun catching someone in every duel this weekend with a slash when they fancy ducked or parried. Someday you just get into grooves like that. I have fun when I am trying to come up with new move combinations. The White Rabbit is my current project. That's my true motivation now, MacKenzie and any and all others who are evening reading this far. The duel, to become as masterful of it as I can
ever be. If I manage that then it will become evident on its own. More WoLs, better Warlord Ranking Percentages, and maybe winning a title or a shot at one in a tourney, and maybe actually defending it. The more I do this and the better I do it each time while sticking to what I believe in the more I will be satisfied with my career. What anyone else thinks of it or doesn't well, oh well. I am just a dueler dueling and riding the wave. Fun ride
someday isn't?

I stopped worshipping Bishop when I finally beat him in the ring, but I still respect my mentor. I am sure Eliisa was a lot more disappointed when she finally beat me. The circle is complete and the whirlwind moves on to another paradox. Does it mean anything? Who knows I am just enjoying the ride while I can and am happy to be a soloist. I don't care what others do outside the rings, but I still think one should at the least prove themselves
in the ring to be taken seriously as a community leader. Myself included. But I am here trying to make history today, MacKenzie, and Bishop is not. Bishop's past and everyone's past should never be forgotten or diminished in anyway as being any more or less important then the rest of the History of Swords. Though the community would be much better off probably if it was the other way around, whereas Bishop here and active dueling then myself, but
the reality is different. I would prefer to be dueling in the ring with my old mentor more then anything. because I would still be learning from him, enjoying a match beyond the blades, and enjoying a dance with a comrade who regardless afterwards I could share a drink with. I am just hoping to become one of the best duelists known in the history and trying to be the person who I am at the same time. Only time will tell as time always tell. For
now enjoy the ride if you wanna watch I hope to prove entertaining if anything else.

Its not just about winning, but winning with a certain style and flair. I hope to develop a unique style that sure everyone may know and even understand, but I can still be victorious many more times then not. So that is the way of Ecore. To just become a master of the duels with his own style and on his own. Not much to it anymore in reality. Watch for yourselves what happens from this point on.

Ecore:

I can find little fault with your lengthy treatise. Yet two things do, still, nag at me, and I offer them to you not as insult, nor as chastisement, but as food for thought:

- Aye, perhaps in using the Bishop, I chose a poor example, in that he is not even here, really. But the point I was trying to make is that someone -can- be here and not be dueling. They are more than capable of understanding the atmosphere and the undercurrents of this community; stepping into the ring does not somehow grant that. Some simply have no desire to compete on this stage, yet do find pleasure in being part of the community
nonetheless, and I would ask you to consider that before again stating that those who aren't on the standings have no business -being- part of the community... which, by saying they have no business speaking -about- the community, you are, in fact, essentially saying.

- I note that you desire to be known as one of the best duelists known in the history of the sport. This is not new information, of course, but it brings to mind the question: what else do you feel you need to prove, and to whom do you need to prove it? While many can, and will, make certain statements about you as a person, I think there's no question that you do, indeed, stand recognized as one of the best; even those who "have your number," so
to speak, display some pride in that - just as I hold my record against the Bishop with pride. It occurs to me that being proud of consistently besting someone is hollow unless that someone is, indeed, recognized as a master of the sport.

Elijah~

Through it all, I have always been proud to be your student, and, if you would have me, your friend. This is not simply in spite of your failings and humanity, but because of them.

I would have liked to have told you this in person, but we never seem to cross paths in the Arena. Hopefully soon I will.

With much appreciation and affection,
Your Kohei,

Ian,

In response to your first point of consideration for me I will conclude my basic philosophy of worth in this community. It starts with enterting the rings and stepping into a duel and proving yourself with a blade. After people get to see your face and see you being a competitor of the dance of blades they watch to see what kind of person you are outside the rings. Unless you truely learn what it means to be a dueler and formulating your own
dueling career, then otherwise you have no business discussing the dueling community. I may be stubborn in this beleif but to me its the foundation of being apart of this community is being a dueler.

While I encourage outsiders who don't duel to come and watch and form relationships of whatever kind with other duelers,I do not encourage them commenting on issues they are not apart of. An instance would be the years Jonalyn spent at the barside withou ever entering the rings to officially duel, but pretending practically she was an Overlord of her own kind. She's been more active in the duels now and for that I am happy. I give my respect to
those who go through the trenches like the rest of us had to, and not to 'armchair' duelers if you understand my meaning.

Of your second question to me about who I need to prove to and prove what to, the answer is simple and obvious. I need to prove that I can be consistent against the majority of duelers the majority of the time to myself. That will become evident as I gain more WoLs then loses, better Warlord Rankings percentages, Warlord Tourney prizes, and maybe even defending titles that I may earn in the future. That is what is important to me to prove to
myself, that I can be a better dueler.

I don't feel like I have to prove anything else to anyone, because I am not interested in making other people happy or fighting for other people's causes. While others may differ on this, that is not important to me. And so there are your answers, Ian.

I confess....I didn't bother reading all the posts, I know what most of them say from history repeating itself too many times.

All I'd say is that you aren't a historian when you vanish for at least two of your claimed six years here. That in itself is a false statement, "six years". But then I've had this same conversation before, guess I'm just including the new folks in it. :)
