What of Swords is important to You.

Swords comrades,

I make this post to try and understand the newer duelers of the Swords Community of today and to try and understand where some of the older duelers now stand on their involvement here. I've heard various bits and pieces of what people think and what they like to get out of their experiences here. As I know we all like to post our two cents here about everything under the sun, how about we talk about something positive in a positive light.

Some come to get a good record and put up some stats. Some are looking for recognizition and glory of being a title holder. Others come just to sharpen their skills. Some come for the orc's good ale and to find some good company. Many come to transact bussiness of network other oppurtunities. Many sovereigns of the RhyDin realms exchange diplomatic conversations while enjoying the duels. Maybe some are looking for love.

I've done alittle bit of all I mentioned above at one point or another. What do I come for now? Good question. For now I am content to come and try to relearn the art of the dance of the blades. Along the way I would like to run into and catch up with old comrades. At the same time I'd like to see who are the regulars of the sport today and get to know who they are. I am interested to know the goals and asspirations of those who duel here
now, and as well like to understand their day to day involvement in the Swords Arena. What it means for them and what it does for them.

For awhile I beleived Swords was in a dark era that seems to be showing me a light at the end of the tunnel. I really don't know as of yet. But as I start becoming more regular around here as a participant of the rings again these are things I wonder about. Feel free to post anything and everything and why you beleive so. I am listening as are others. And let's try not to knock another for their reasons of what is important to them here.
Diversity is what makes this community strong.

Why am I here?
There are two reasons really. Friendships and sport. It is rather quaint, but where I come from jousting and swordplay are considered spectator sports. Having been the best I could be there I came here in search of more formidable opponents and I have found them. That is why I came.
I stay because I have friends here. Some of them very good friends. G, Zen, Khrys, Sara, Daelin, and more are all reasons I stay here.
Besides, it is fun.

Every answer is as trite as the question asked. I'd rather give a dashing thrashing than my agenda and motives of the 'hows' and 'whys' of my participation.

I'm here to win (something I could use a little more of) and not much else. Well, the drinks are pretty good, but winning is about it. And please, don't try and say I'm cold-hearted or "have no respect for the sport." It really irritates me when people act all high and mighty about something in an attempt to make someone else feel guilty.

I have many reasons. For one, I enjoy the duels. I enjoy holding the baronial title, and I enjoy making a difference.

At first it was the glory and fame... and the money that brought. It was sweet while it lasted.

Then after I settled in a bit it, it turned into a service to the community, to the place I now called home. And with the birth of my second son, it became a mission to make the arena a better place for future generations.

Now I duel for the competition. To strive to be the best duelist I can possibly be. I still strive to do what I can to serve the community, but it will remain a secondary factor as to why I duel now.

Besides, who could do without occasional hits to the head with various weapons? Eh, Xerzes?

Simply,
the people. The thing is, I've never had, since a young lad, many friends until I stumbled on this place, or none, for that matter, or atleast any I can recall. It's a long story, but there's reasoning..Actually, I can't quite remember exactly who my parents were, or the location of my youth, but I remember the road, the day my sight was snuffed out, and, well, more road. So, I'll die a happy man if I experience just a tad of friendship in my
life-time, and I found that here, so that's why I'm staying.

I came here two years ago, not knowing where I was and what I had found. I had no intention of staying in one place, as my life style at the time precluded any form of *permanancy*. What I found here in the form of friends, and eventually family, convinced me to stay. Friends.... Good Friends. People like Gnortie, Percy, Morte, Topaz, Sher and AJay, Eros, Var and his constant
teasing over my for some reason not being able to ever best him in a duel, Prinny, Tay, Jayc, Sara, Keirin... and of course my Zachary and Brianna...........
The list goes on and on... It's far too long to place them all here. These are the reason's I'm still here. These are the people I love.

::The Roman approaches the cork, after having let the Community know of his challenge by Aphazel, a man whom he knew firsthand to be very skilled in the ring, and who was polite and honorable enough in his Challenge....but..well..Cassius really didn't know him.Flipping through the cork, he smiles warmly at this missive, and decides to answer it. He mostly comes to the cork to declare responses and to catch up on the news; the Roman almost *never*
responds to little surveys such as this. But something compelled him to respond now...:::

The question is, why do we come here? Why do we put our bodies in harm's way to every such manner of ugly-looking weapon, endure and spew bile-filled insults, and throw ourselves
to the flames of political infernos? I can't explain the rest of you, but I'll tell you why I do.

Let's start with the basics: I am a warrior. I am trained to cross blades, I live to cross blades, I love to cross blades, crossing blades is one of the things I do best. Granted, all over Rhydin could I find opportunity to do this, and I have, but I live by a code of Honor and Valor that admittedly not all Roman centurions abide by. If I said that every dueler who came in these halls was a bastion of grace and poise, it would be a lie and we all
know that. But in general, I have found the Arena to be relatively clean of the dishonor and insane bloodlust that unfortunately, does permeate much of Rhydin these days. In short: I like the atmosphere.

I have over time acquired many friends; Eros deBurgo,Drakewyn Silvertree, Gnort Dragoon Talanador, Sir Father Leo Caius Cassius Pride, Daelin Dragonsblade, Duc Pericval Marchand de Clermont, Aerenth Artides, Guillermius Iulius Fortis, Gaius Marius Lestae, Topaz deBurgo, Vanessa Raven, Taylara Demeri, Dexter Montoya, Syous of Mystara,Dalamar Majere, KangAurak, Gnimish Gnimoi, Cygnet Seraphim. And at times, Lupton est Dracoern. There are others I have
no doubt left out, but also doubtlessly belong listed here. My friends have shown me great support, and have been there in times of need, and in times of plenty. I owe them all my undying and eternal gratitude. And I can also not forget my beloved wife, Laylla Angelique Maximius, who introduced me to this wonderful world.

Lastly, I am Roman, and to be Roman means to want to make a difference in the community around you. I feel I have placed myself in a position to do this in the DoS Community. I am the Baron of the Sixth, and as such, it is my duty to try and bring honor and a luster to the Sixth, and to align it and have it stand where I see it as right. Regrettably, there are people out there skilled with a sword, but unsavory in character and motives,-though 95% of
the Community is excluded from this, in my opinion-who would wish to have a Ring for nefarious purposes; it is my job to make sure that all those who would seek the Sixth for such would only recieve Imperator's bite. It is also my job to defend this ring with honor and skill against those much more numerous opponents whom *are* worthy, such as this most recent challenger, to give them a hard, skillful match as they deserve, and should I fall, pass the
Ring to them with no regrets.

::takes some time to shake off his cramping hand::::

In a nutshell, why am I here? I like it.
