:: a copy of a letter to the Council and to officials of DoS ::

Officials, Fellow Stewards of titles in the Duel of Swords, Friends,

I conditionally accept the challenge of the Baroness, Jaycynda Ashleana, Holder of the Third Ring. At such time when the Standings Keeper places her stamp of validation I will make a formal acceptance to the challenge and meet with the Baroness to arrange the details of the match. I do know that there is no need to validate peer wins but I am under the
impression that it must still be validated, as it were, by tradition and rules.

I apologize to the Baroness, and to the Council, for the delay as she had made such challenge on a specific day, last Friday at just past midnight, April 9th, for a reason. I believe she had stated it was a six month anniversary of a former challenge announcement. I had hoped that I could wait until it was ratified but feel that the community should be made aware in the meantime.

I will be posting a copy of this letter on the cork in the meantime.

Seeing the letter posted on the boards, Jaycy nods a bit, having another copy in her office. She hadn't posted a notice of challenge yet because she was waiting for Drake to confirm the challenge, but now Dex had taken care of informing the community.

With a soft sigh, she moves on.

Baroness Jaycynda,

I implore you to reconsider your challenge for Overlord. It was bad enough watching Cris de Oro use his Baron rank, even though he would have qualified only to be a GrandMaster otherwise, to step up to be known as the Supreme Dueler of Swords. Do you really wish to be so selfish for whatever your motivations are to personally go against Dexter Montoya rather then actually wanting to be the Supreme Dueler of Swords? Not only did Cris stain the
title given for the one known to be the Supreme Dueler of Swords, but you seek to further taint the highest title of all in this sport.

Overlord, Supreme Dueler of Swords, the one known to this community as the one who is the best of the current ilk of duelers. A Baron, who needs to earn nothing to qualify to challenge for Overlord, seeks to claim such a title, when if they were not a titled dueler would not otherwise be challenge qualified. You are an embarassment to everything the titles of this sport were founded upon. Skill of the blade. The basics of this sport is that the
blade will rule the day and its the one who weilds that blade who makes a good leader or not.

I do not question your character of person Baroness, howeve,r I do question your ability to be known as the Supreme Dueler of Swords. I ask you again to reconsider what you are doing and the implications of such to this community and to the sport itself. Your challenge, regardless of how personal against the current Overlord can wait till you at least have a minium record befitting a title holder.

By carrying through with this challenge, Baroness Jaycynda, you will loose not only my respect probably for the rest of my entire career and life, but probably 99% of the other duelers of this sport. I ask this of you and display it before the public to beseech you to please reconsider what you are doing and why. Put the sport before thyself, because I see you, besides this event, as a good person who in time could be a good leader.

Speaking as concerned dueler,

She quirks a brow as she peruses the Overlord's announcement. Penning a note she tacks it to the cork.

Gentles,

Interesting that the perfidious Baroness issued challenge unto the Overlord upon the sixth month anniversary of the illegal duel in which she did gain her title. These ancient hall fall further into the Abyss. The oh so Honorable Baroness ne'er e'en deigns to inform the community that she hast issued challenge. What ist it now she seeks to hide?

Disgusted,

:::Sighs::: Ford Prefect, Sir Magnus Eques, and probably a few others I'm forgetting.

A duelist's WoL is not neccessarily the be-all and end-all of their skill, Ecore.

There's a way to explain lacking WoL sometimes folks: BAD LUCK

Baron Maxim,

Allow me to enlighten you about something my dear Baron, so that you may understand something so it might help you remove your head from your arse.

Ford Prefect did indeed have a lousy record as far as WoLs after becoming a Baron. In fact at the begining of a cycle he was the only Baron to have his record reset to 0 : 0 : 0. He also defended his ring a numerous amount of times. Agains that saying of any given dueler can win any given duel on any given day, though history defines you for the ones you win when something is on the line. However, Ford Prefect would have never ever in his
wildest dreams, and no one else I thought ever would, dare to challenge for the Supreme Dueler of Swords with such a prediciment. Ford was so distressed about his prediciment that he came to me to learn what he could of dueling to help improve his record. As usual as been common in the history of Swords, I was not the most popular guy of the rings and scorned by the majority of other duelers.

Ford is respected because of defending his ring for as many times for as long as he did and with the class he had despite his poor WoLs record that he was concerned about and tried to do everything possible to correct it. So why WoLs alone don't make a title holder they are part of the total dueler's profile.

I wasn't bashing the memory of Lord Prefect in any manner, Ecore. In fact, I seemed to be using him as an example that WoL at times, matters jack when you are defining a dueler's
ability. You wanted to lecture me, so you gave one....one that pointed out everything I said.
Yes, Lord Prefect probably wouldn't have challenged for the Overlord, check that,he wouldn't have, cause he didn't. But I ask you this: Would Ford Prefect have been all that bad of an Overlord? But shall we stay on the course of the discussion? As Gnort said, whether you like it or not, Jaycy challenged and that's all there is to it. Personally, I wish she wouldn't challenge. And personally, while I think you should have at least 15 WoL before
challenging if you are a Baron, it's not that big a deal. The Baron had to gain 15 WoL to ever become a Baron in the first place....correct? Which leads us to this conclusion: They slumped. it happens.

Ecore,

I haven't seen Dex around in awhile, haven't seen him duel much in DoS over da past year, he came fer a title, he got it, but yer gonna sit around and say he's more qualified dan Jaycy cause he has 35 WoLs and she has 14? I know what its like ta just want a title, I do it in DoF and DoM, but over dere politics isn't a big deal, here it is, ya gotta stay active IMHO, dedication means a lot more ta me as a qualification dan WoLs....

Did I comment on Dex? No. I don't need to. Besides didn't you pull the get reinstated as your rank just before the DQ bit anyway? You have no room to talk either.

~~

Baroness Ashleana,

Blessings of Twilight. Although you have made it clear on many occasions that my opinion nor friendship is of little concern, I would ask you to take a moment to consider my words.

I know the Overlord Dexter Montoya as an Honorable man. I do not mean Honor in the general sense, as it is thrown around often, but Honor by definition in my own personal code. He does not base his loyalties on political ambition, intercession stances, or any single issue. He bases his loyalties on the Honor of an individual.

There is nothing wrong with the desire to be Overlord, or Overlady. It is my belief that at a minimum, a desire to serve the community and to seek it's betterment should be coupled with this desire. This is the reason why I, myself let the Challenge of The Overlord Cristian De Oro proceed Intercession free. His reason for challenging me, aside from taking issue with my character, was a desire for the betterment of Swords.

If you insist on following through with your Challenge, I would humbly submit a request to thee; that you publicly state why you wish to Challenge Dexter Montoya, what you find lacking in him to necessitate taking the Crown, and specifically what you plan to do in order to serve the Community.

This is but a request. You have the choice, as always, to ignore it, or attack it. May yourself and your family be Blest.

~~~~~Blessings of Twilight~~~~~
Ecore,
I said I did similar behaviors in DoF and DoM. I also said I believe dedication means more dan a WoL. So what exactly in my post are ya refuting? Learn how ta hold an argument jackass.
