True Rix, but my point being that complaining won't get anything. All of these people who complain about Baron's WoL could just have easily challenged Jaycy for her ring instead of waiting until she challenged for the crown to create an uproar.

Cletus has a point.
Jaycy's been a baron six months and has only been challenged once. To my knowledge she's been under 15 WoL for at least several months now. Anyone who had issues with her WoL could've challenged in this time. Instead, most of them simply decide to argue about it now that she's challenged.
Not to say that I think the challenge is necessarily a good idea, but I think this is a valid point.

::reads a portion of Cletus' letter::
All of these people who complain about Baron's WoL could just have easily challenged Jaycy for her ring instead of waiting until she challenged for the crown to create an uproar.
While this statement is true, it is also flawed; you make the assumption that everyone knew the baroness would challenge, and thus waited till now to create an uproar. I am sure that there are those that did indeed know of her intentions. I am just as sure there are those that did not, for had they known, she would have been challenged.
I will honestly say that I am glad the baroness did not come under assault for her record dipping slightly. I like to feel that at times we exist in a certain period of civility and are willing to not hover like a pack of wolves waiting to descend upon one another when someone stumbles.
I am not arrogant enough to think the baroness owes me any explanation for her actions, for she most certainly does not. The rules that we are governed by allow her to take the course of action she has chosen. What I take issue with is the perceived contradiction of her beliefs and her actions. I only wish the baroness had used a little more forsight and delayed this challenge, the circumstances being what they are. I am disappointed.

I'm still waitin' fer a compelling argument as ta why WoL's makes someone better.
I don't consider "Because I see it dat way" a compelling argument. I'm talkin' 'bout a logical statement of fact proving WoLs makes ya a better Overlord.
Of course Ecore would want us all ta believe WoLs makes ya more worthy, he's got 230 of 'em. He's challenged before, and I've tested him before. I'll tell ya its not da WoLs dat make ya worthy, its yer character.
And yes Ecore, I called ya a jackass, because ya don't spend yer time composin' sound arguments against me, instead ya speak of yer skewed personal beliefs about how WoLs are da end all be all of a DoS dueler's worth.
Go tell Binzo he isn't worthy, go tell Ford.
Everyone talks about how da Overlord should portray a good image, should set a good example fer our community. I fer one would rather an Overlord who takes a bigger part in our community dan one with 21 more WoLs. Don't ferget Jaycy calls duels so we can enjoy ourselves, she serves on our Baronial council, and she participates in DoS on a regular basis. Keep tellin' me she's not worthy cause she lacks da 2 WoLs ta make her a "Warlord" and I'll
keep tellin' ya yer wrong.
She's not a Warlord, She's a Baroness.
She's worthy. Period.

Jaycy,
You've been my friend for quite awhile now..Although I don't completely understand the challenge, I don't question your judgement or reason, or even your record like the others...I just wish to know what you feel is wrong with Overlord Montoya? You say that you challenged Evan 6 months ago, granted that is true. But, If you feel Honor is declining in the sport...why attack Dexter? He has nothing to do with it..unless you seek to better the DoS
through your actions as Overlady..but I still don't quite get it...I trust we should speak, but that is up to you..

two things:
>>I don't consider "Because I see it dat way" a compelling argument. I'm talkin' 'bout a logical statement of fact proving WoLs makes ya a better Overlord.<<
Actually Jeff, "Because I see it that way" is the ONLY compelling argument for what's being said. First of all, I've seen not one, not even one post saying that WoL makes a person a better overlord. Second, and I can speak only for myself here: I'm speaking only for myself here.
You don't have to agree. You don't even have to have a good reason for disagreeing. How some feel is how some feel. This is how I feel.
Second: People waiting until now.
Again, I can speak only for myself: up until now, I looked on Jaycy with admiration, because in spite of bad luck, she's persevered, not only maintaining her rank, but maintaining it with honor. I personally would've considered it dishonor for someone to challenge her based on her record.
There's a big difference between a Baron who's record has slipped and someone without the record, challenging for the number one slot.
Now, let me respond again to the fifty people who will likely accuse me of everything from hypocrisy to idiocy: I'm not trying to make you agree with me. I don't even care if you agree with me or not. You don't need a good reason to disagree with me. You don't even have to read this. I'm not going to throw rotten fruit at anyone. I'm not even upset.
But I have lost some respect for someone I respected very much.
Does that matter to anyone? Nope. You don't even have to care who I respect.
Some do by choice, most don't. Life will go on.

I'm going to address a few points here, and try to make it as clear as possible because this whole subject has many shaded spots.
To answer Jeff's question, WoL does not make you a better overlord. I believe some people just feel having an overlord with a record below that of a warlord is a poor representation. I don't see it this way personally, but it's what I've read.
Personally, I would just like to see an overlord with a higher-than-warlord record. I just want to see that. Wins Over Losses does not give you a poor representation, it's just personal preference to see an overlord with 15+ WoL. It's hard to word properly, but I think everyone knows what I mean.
Regarding the challenge itself, I do understand the reasons, but don't agree with them. Her main reason is because Dexter has not dueled for a couple months until he challenged for overlord. That's understandable, considering I don't like it when warlords never duel in the whole cycle and then duel in the warlord's tourney; some do it to challenge the crown, others do it to have fun, but I still have issues when they don't challenge in a given
cycle, and are conveniently ready to duel during the time of the tourney.
However, I would prefer her not challenging an overlord I consider a friend and am loyal to. Again, it's all personal preference.
Jaycy has every right to challenge, and her actions recently have earned respect from me. It's no secret I didn't like her challenging with invalid peer wins, as Jona brought up, but by actions you redeem. I think Jaycy has carried herself respectfully, yet it would sadden me if she removed one whom I thought was an honorable overlord.
It's her right, though. It's my right to prefer she not challenge. It's Ecore's right to ask that Jaycy to retract her challenge. It's our right to do what we want, think what we want, and feel what we want. If people think you're an idiot (not saying that applies here), then that's what you have to deal with.

Straight to the point:
When I challenged for the Overlordship, I had no intention of holding onto it forever. I saw a problem in Marzan's behavior. I sought to rectify it by challenge since I was in the position to do so. As I have said many times before, I am in this for the duel, not for the wins.
When wins are treated as a currency with which to buy approval, then it would seem to me (and perhaps only me) that something is truly wrong. A man's worth does not rest solely in the number beneath a column marked "W"; rather, worth is measured by many, many other factors. When only one variable is taken into account in judging a person's worth, then the view of this person is remarkably skewed.
Were he or she a good man, I would stand vehemently behind an Overlord, no matter if they had 500 Wins over Losses or were -30 Wins over Losses behind.
This debate is age old in many cultures. From battle prowess to material possessions, there is always a level deemed "worthy" by some. The fact of the matter is, that many of the ones that fall below this line are no less worthy ... and many of them do not even try to be "worthy" in the eyes of these people.
Worth is judged solely by the self and not the consensus. Many will disagree when one deems themselves worthy, but in the end, they can never prove one person more worthy than another by any other standards but their own. As we have seen here, each of us has a separate set of standards.
No matter my opinions on what makes a man or woman truly worthy, I would like any who would consider it to remember this proverb:
"Those who preserve their integrity remain unshaken by the storms of daily life. They do not stir like leaves on a tree or follow the herd where it runs. In their mind remains the ideal attitude and conduct of living. This is not something given to them by others. It is their roots ... it is a strength that exists deep within them."
In short, should you feel you are worthy, no matter the thoughts of others, do what you will. You are worthy. Belief will be your strength. The opinions of others will only prove your downfall if you begin to believe them yourself.
As for my own belief in worth; Win or lose, neither of the two duelists that this challenge revolves will be any more or less worthy once it has completed. This belief carries beyond the challenge and on into every duel they will ever fight. Good luck to you both. Enjoy the duel for what it is ... not what it may one day bring.
Sincerely,
Cristian de Oro

Overlord Coindextint Dexter Montoya,
Should thee choose to Test Madame Ashleana, I also offer mine blade unto thee.
I am appalled that the community accepts as honorable a Baron who didst blame her servant and who didst press illegal and improper challenge. I am further appalled that though she claims to have accepted a responsibility she indeed eschewed accepting the responsibility for her own perfidious deed. Her hypocrisy ist astounding in that ast she indeed wears an officials uniform she claimed nae knowledge of the simplest of requirements in pressing
forth her challenge unto the former Baron Evan Rynth. Further, she didst accuse the former Overlord, Eros Hunrai Marzanhe DeBurgo of murder, using that as her reasoning for standing Renegade during his reign.
Her claim to believe a Baron should maintain at minimum the bona fides to hold at least a warlord's ranking than then to press challenge ist nothing short of an insult to these ancient halls. She makes claim that she asked people to challenger her. Interesting that she has carefully refrained from naming these "people". Her claims that her loyalty is not given lightly present nothing but a smoke screen and her own self serving attempt to appear
before this community as an upstanding personage. Her friends, those who stand with her in approving her deceit hold her loyalty. Her seeming loyalty to Dalamar Ar'Daumon came about rather swiftly after she had declared herself Renegade unto him; a mere four days if memory serves.
Now, it would seem she not only stands as renegade with the claim that she does not know Dexter Montoya, adding that he hast nae dueled of late, she presses challenge unto him. I for one must wonder that if she wished nae to offer her loyalty unto someone she claims nae to know she might hae considered standing neutral. I for one believe she seeks as always her own self aggrandizment with ne'er a thought to anyone but herself, nae this community,
nae the histories, nae the traditions and nae e'en to something ast simple ast common sense. I care nae what her record be, tis indeed, nae the measure of the personage. I do care that a cheat and a simpering, cowardly, wench with nae the intestinal fortitude to own up to her deceit wouldst press challenge for the Crown.
I also note her "elitist" comment that they, the Barons..."are perhaps, aside from the officials, the most public of all." If that is her attitude, what hast she to say for those of lesser rank? Aire they of little or no consequence? Tis a sad commentary on the state of these ancient halls when one such as Madame Ashleana ist lauded. Hast it come to this, that deceivers are held in esteem simply in that they hold title?
Friendship above Honor? Ne'er!
I weep for the darkness descends ever deeper.

If this was the case, why were the ranks of commoner, swordsman, master at arms and grand master set up. Why not just say anyone who has the necessary wins can challenge and do away with ranks all together, because they are based on what the numbers under the W and the L are.

Jeff,
Did I not say that WoLs is only part of the puzzle of the Overlord picture? I did not say it was the deciding factor, or the only factor. Var said it right that having an Overlord with less then 15 WoLs is a poor representation, IMHO, of this sport. Not saying that is Var's opinion but he comprehended what I and others are saying.
As far as calling my a jackass upon the boards, I can where the level of maturiy of our Senrior Baron has fallen.

Ecore,
My level of maturity hasn't changed, just so happens da Senior Baron doesn't like ya much. I never have and I never will, because of how you act in regards ta da sport and which beliefs ya hold dear.

Jonalyn:
I can verify that the Baroness has asked at least one Warlord to challenge her.
I refused.
