<<Ford Prefect, Sir Magnus Eques, and probably a few others I'm forgetting.>>

These two names don't belong in the same sentence together kid.

<<She's not a Warlord, She's a Baroness.

She's worthy. Period.>>

Jeff, ya' ain't a bad little turnip...but what make ya' the expert on who's worthy and who ain'? If Jaycy weren't a friend of the family and was in fact say...Elijah...I'd bet all the hairs across yer ass would be standin' on end.

Sorry kid, yer statement doesn't float....BUT...somethin' ya' did say rather stronly applies ta' yer letter, here it is:
<<I don't consider "Because I see it dat way" a compelling argument.>>

kinda sounds like that's exactly the attitude ya' got goin' right now.

<<If you hated everyone who accidentally messed up a challenge, by any means, the most common being what Jaycy did, using invalid peer wins, then you would hate a lot of people in this realm.>>

There's a big difference between joe smoe who challenges and screws up and someone who freakin' WORKS fer the DoS doin' it. They both should be stripped of the tilte...only difference is, one has no exscuses.

<<Ooh, I just have to take issue with this. People who are Warlords are worth more than lesser ranks? People increase in value as they gain rank? The ranks have to do with achievement in the sport. Not personal worth. Big difference. There are people of lower ranks worth much more than some of our upper ranks. Likewise there are duelists who will be worthless regardless of rank.>>

With regard ta' the duels itself, yes...someone with a lower rankin' is not worth as much as someone with a warlord rankin'. It used ta' be the same with barons until there was an influx of meatheads with dreams of glory...and either bendin' the rules er gettin' lucky and winnin'.

::She glances over the boards, nodding, then looks to her all-too-awake daughter in her arms.:: "At least Jaycy knows why Jonalyn keeps insulting her. All I ever get is 'you should know'." ::With a soft chuckle, she pens a quick note.::

I've noticed something interesting...

There are some people here who sit around and complain how terrible things are, and how utterly bleak the Duel of Swords has become. They carry themselves wrapped in their complaints and their attitudes of superiority... and never do anything to try to fix things. They bemoan the fate of the grand traditions, acting like martyrs of olde.
Then there are some people here who quietly comment on how things are different now... they duel, or they watch, but they rarely speak out and they, like the first group I mentioned, rarely do anything to "fix" things.
Then there are those who bodly stomp on the traditions of the past. They decry the history and ignore the voices of those who have more experience. They carry themselves as masters of the future, for it seems the Duels are turning more towards them, even when they don't win.
And there are those who work quietly. They duel, when they can, and they quietly teach... sometimes only one or two at a time... the ways of quiet respect and honor. You don't hear from this group much... they're too busy trying to make small changes. Because many small changes can add up to a big change.

I've done my best to be one of that last group. Sometimes, I've let pride get the better of me... I will admit to that. But in the end, I think that I, and those that I've taught, have done a fair job of making the duels more honorable and more respectful than most have.

I'm sure someone's going to tear this apart... that's the nature of life. People can't help but argue.
But insults... Those truely serve no honorable purpose.

Alright, okay, alright, okay, alright.

Where did all of the devote believers in "If you don't like it, challenge" gone to?

And did someone kill off that group who told everyone to just shut up and quit arguing?

Just curious, this stack could use some laughs. BRK is just getting too serious on us.

I've sat back now for the last 2 months and watched and read and not commented.
I've read over all of the arguments and had to physically restrain myself from responding to some of them. However I will say this.

I think the rules need to be changed. "Supreme Dueler of DoS" should not be the Overlord. Not all who hold the crown will be the Supreme Dueler here.
Sure you can say I'm defending Jaycy because she is my friend. Your right too.
You people haven't had anything to whine about lately and now you have something. Isn't there anything better you could be doing.
Forgive me if I don't quote the past and tell you this person was under 15 WoL and this person was over. I've said before. I respect the past, I honor it. I don't live in it.

This is the future, WE are the now of DoS. What we do now sets the standard for the next generation of people. No rules are ever perfect, there will always be changes and ammendments. Not every overlord will have 100 WoL or even 15 WoL. Those who don't like it, should simply challenge.

Jaycy, I'm behind you 100% and I wish you the best of luck.
Dex, To you I wish a safe and honorable duel.

That, Gimmzak, if precisely why a number of people are speaking out against this. "What we do now sets the standard...." Setting a standard that challenge to a baron may go through, despite deficiency and that a baron who cannot qualify as a warlord be allowed to challenge the overlord, is precedent that many appear to disagree with. Simply challenging is
not enough, for we are talking about a matter of policy and of the future.

For all those that have argued in the past that there is too much politics in DoS, it would seem this be the only reasonable stance. Those who would wish the politics done away with must, by necessity, look to the Overlord as the Supreme Duelist. Personally, I believe that the title requires a mix of both.

Four years I have claimed that a Baron is inherently worthy to challenge the Overlord and therefore should be immune from the test of Worthiness. For the first time since the creation of the title, however, I find a scenario to which I must take exception. I've no personal disagreement with Jaycy, but I do not believe this challenge should be permitted to go forth. Since Jaycy does not appear to agree and the administrators of the sport are
content to let the atrocity take place, only the Overlord is left to erect a blockade.

Overlord Montoya, not only do I request you to put this challenger to the Test of Worthiness, but I offer you my daggers in the fight.

Be advised that name calling ends now. Stay to the issues. If you have a complaint or point to discuss do so, but with decorum, please.

M'lady Jonalyn.

~~If one wast to judge by one's followers that one ist a good leader, one must then perhaps attribute to the followers the same mindset ast that displayed by the leader. I mineself dinna subscribe to that philosophy, much ast I dinna subscribe to the philosophy of rushing to judgment nor attributing like mindedness to a group that dost claim friendship among themselves.~~

A very good point here. I am extremely grateful that you do not judge one's character by his associates. This sound reasoning on your part shows me, at least, that I misjudged your views slightly. I've been under the impression that you dislike certain people because of who they associate with. Apparently I was wrong. That comforts me.

~~I find it utterly droll that thee wouldst comment that I wouldst seem to know the heart and soul of every single person in the DoS, whilst at the same time thee seem to claim that thee know mine own~~

Never in my post did I claim to "know" your soul. I merely stated my observations as to your actions and words, and how they would, in most people's eyes, reflect on your character. That is how one judges character, m'lady, is it not? Maybe my comment was a bit out of line, but in many of your posts, you comment on the character, nay, not the character, but the emotional make up of patrons here. The
thing is, m'lady, if someone messes up one time, you seem pass judgment on them. Thats how I feel in Jaycy's case at least. Many people here do say, as I am certain you are aware, that your opinion is worthless, perhaps because you do not partake in the sport often, or for various other reasons. I have never felt this way, for you are in the arena often. I've always been willing to listen to your views. In my last few posts, I have not been
trying to change your views, merely understand them. What brings them about, and so forth. Moving on..

-Regarding Merewyne- ~in good conscience state that the entire team feels and thinks of her ast highly ast I do.~~

Okay, I understand, Merewyne is probably an excellent captain. But your statement here is still asinine. It doesn't really matter if a select few think that Merewyne is the *best* captain in TDL. They cant fairly say that. Its like someone saying that, this is purely hypothetical, that Marzan was the best Overlord ever when that person has only been around during his reign. How would that person
know, unless under the leadership of every overlord preceding Eros?

~~I shall disregard thine obviously rhetorical comments ast simply emotional outbursts.~~

You'll find, m'lady, that I am not one prone to emotional outbursts. Not many things ruffle my feathers. I rarely get angry, I am not angry now, at you, or anyone else. I'm merely disturbed by your amount of animosity against Jaycy. Your statement above proves slightly, my point about you knowing everyone's soul.

~~ I shall also comment that leading a team of duelers does nae in and of itself qualify one to hold the mantle and Crown of Overlord~~

Of course it doesn't. You're right. But I never said that it did. I merely said that in the view of her team, Jaycy has proved to be quite an effective leader by taking on the responsibilities of being a TDL captain. Of course, being a captain is no where near the amount of responsibility of being overlord. I did not even compare the two, however. I said merely that I, along with the rest of her
team, and I'm sure the other captains that she's dealt with, have witnessed excellent leadership potential from Jaycy.

~~I am certes thee shall correct me if I err, but wast it nae thee what retired thine ring following a duel with G'nort and didst retire for a wee while, only to return and reconsider thine retirement? ~~

Again, you have not erred. I did retire my ring, after beating G'nort for the first time in my life. But that was not why I retired my ring. It was the veritable icing on the cake if you will. The reason why I retired my ring was to pilgrim to my homeland, and complete my training as a priest. I felt it necessary to retire the 13th because I would not be around to defend it. (Its hard to defend a
baronial ring from another planet.) I was gone for a little over two months. When I returned, my ring still being vacant, I never, in my wildest dreams thought I could march back in to Rhydin and take it back for free. I never addressed this possibility. (( **)) I came back, and made public the fact that I might try to get it back. However, its hard for me to get it back from the stance of a Grand Master.

Anyway, now you have turned our discussion onto me. I knew that'd probably happen. However, remember that I am not the topic of our slight argument. Jonalyn, I've still never attacked you, and I doubt I ever will. I respect your views and beliefs, and I've always enjoyed your company in the arena. Now we are here on the boards pointing out each other's errors and such, as is usually the case on these boards. The arguments seem to always get
personal. Know now that I never intended such. I still hold you in the same aspect as I always have, and hope, thus, that you will continue to smile in my direction as I enter the arena. I believe we can have this difference and not be enemies? I see nothing in my posts that I thought would injure your respect for me. But I am still unaware as to your animosity toward Jaycy. Perhaps, we could continue this argument in a civilized fashion,
therefore, we could talk freely, and not need to worry about how people perceive us. Just a thought, m'lady.

Sincerely,
Leo Caius

(( ** I never addressed this IC at least, although OOC I did bring it up, then realized my folly and how ridiculous it would have been for Cassius to expect his ring back.))

Madame Silvertree

I hae noticed something of interest. Thee seem to wish to turn this "sport" into a ladies garden party. Thee seem to wish to bury the past, pretend it dinna happen, turn a blind eye ast it suits thee. Tis seeming thee wish the community to fall to thine own level of mediocrity, perhaps. Thine only saving grace ist thine pledge that thee shall nae e'er seek the Crown.

If tis thee aire a part of this small group ast thee claim, indeed do I pity those that fall under thine sway. Thee claim to "...have done a fair job of making the duels more honorable and more respectful than most have." Thee dinna know most that hae gone afore thee. How utterly droll of thee to make that claim, thee who hast a penchant for misstatements, thee who felt thee couldst tamper the delicate nature of the Wards at thine whim. Wast it
nae thee that didst pen, that ast long ast one dueled honorably in the ring, that wast all that be required? A most interesting statement considering thine less than honorable manner both ast a duelist ast well ast official, nae ta mention ast Captain of the Jade Gryphons Dueling Team, Madame. Thee shall certes nae mind, if I find thine comment "But insults...Those truely (sic) serve no honorable purposes." Thou, Madame, are magnificent in thine
hypocrisy.

If vile, uncalled for statements which lay in the text of a good argument do not account for hate, it is beyond me as to what does. Hate the person's actions and the way the person handled the misdeed, but do not raise the level to a personal matter. That's hate.

Leo Caius

Firstly, let me make one thing verra clear. Were the circumstances the same I should decry the deed hae annaone done ast did Madame Ashleana.

In the matter of Madame Jaycynda Ashleana, let me elucidate further. The lass hae opportunity aplently to stand forth and step away from her improperly issued challenge. She wast indeed aware, ast Sartan hast noted that another wast prepared to press forth challenge unto the then Baron Evan Rush Rynth. Tis clear ta me that she didst issue forth her challenge in haste to steal a march on the other warlord. That in and of itself ist nae cause to
take anna warlord to task. Tis that hae oft happened in long history of these ancient halls. Yet it indeed speaks of her character, neh?

Yet in this instance, Madame Ashleana, didst write that challenge, a servant in her employ didst deliver said challenge. Said challenge wast ruled improper by the official whose duty it was to validate such challenges. Master Evermeadow hae reiterated and clarified what wouldst constitute a "legal" challenge upon this verra corkboard "prior" to the issuance of said challenge. Warlords who hae issued challenge both prior to and subsequent to
Madame Ashleana's issurance of challenge hae hae their bona fides stripped from their records and their "right" to challenge stripped away for the turning of the cycle.

To me mind that presents a troublesome precedent. Tis further troublesome that Madame Ashleana dost continue to claim nae anna wrongdoing. If memory serves she didst comment to the effect if one dinna like it, challenge. It seems ta me that she feels herself to be above the "law." She hae indeed dueled and indeed won that duel. Howe'er, I do hold that she won an "illegal" duel and dost therefore hold her ring by deceit.

I am reminded of another "illegal" duel that wast indeed fought and indeed won, and indeed that win wast set aside by the then Supervisor Madame Helix Girvin, for in that the question of legality wast at that moment before the Council of Barons. The question of Madame Ashleana's challenge ne'er wast presented unto the Council by the then Baron Evan Rush Rynth to me knowledge. Perhaps he wasna aware he could hae presented the question unto the
Council.

Madame Ashleana didst issue challenge upon the sixth day of the tenth month and didst meet her opponent upon the ninth day of the tenth month. Such haste, though nae unheard of ist rare. Ast a point of fact, the date and time she wast to meet the then Baron Evan Rush Rynth wast nae e'en announced upon this cork. In point of fact, during the afternoon of the ninth day, both Madame Ashleana and the then Baron indicated their match wouldst nae take
place until the following week. Why the haste, why the seeming attempt at secrecy?

Didst she think that once she wast secure with the title she would be "safe" from comment? Perhaps she considered that being ast thee put it a "nice" person and a "sweet gal" she wouldst be accepted and that her deception wouldst nae be brought before the community. Perhaps she consider that her status ast an official gave her some protection from the rank and file and that she wouldst nae hae to be concerned with following the "rules of
engagement", the "law" ast it were. Perhaps she hoped none would come forth and speak out of her deeds and her deception. Perhaps she believes herself so well liked and "popular" that her perfidious act wouldst be lain aside ast a mere "accident" and accepted.

She now stands forth and presents challenge unto the Overlord whilst, as Morgan hast pointed out, holding the rank of Grand Master. Ast Kalamere hast so eloquently stated, another precedent be in the making. Madame Ashleana herself considers the Barons and the officials ast being the public figures. She is both. What image be she presenting to the community ast well ast to those that come in future? Rest assured tis nae an image I wouldst wish
presented unto future duelist or for that matter presented unto the current crop.

I shall tell thee this from personal knowledge. Madame Ashleana hae nae anna views when she entered the position. Her "views" hae changed willy nilly ast they suited her. I am reminded that Madame Ashleana herself placed a missive upon this cork stating her reasons for challenging Evan. She didst state that she challenged "friends". She now states she challenges Coindextint Dexter Montoya in that she dinna know the man. She decries her
pitiable record. She states she dinna believe in intercession for a Baron's first defense, insinuating her honor wast called into question. She knew full well that her first defense of the Third against the challenge of the warlord Lucian wouldst nae hae brought forth intercession by the then Overlord Dalamar Ar'Daumon. Curiously she dinna mind intercession during the challenge set forth by the warlord K'yorl, and now she deems anna intercession
ast improper for anna reason, ast well she might since tis she who may hae ta face the Test.

Thee consider mine comments ast animosity, Leo Caius. I consider them statements of fact, observations and opinion. Animosity might best be felt for someone that hae threatened mine life and that of mine bairns of mine beloved. I am quite capable of harbouring animosity for such personages when they present a threat to me and mine. When they aire nae longer in a position to harm me and mine, tis of little import and anna animosity I may hae
harboured ist forgotten, though the deed isna.
