Sidartha Elgarette

Thine comment to whit: "Without his skill with the blade, would he have had the same recognition? Sadly, since few bothered to look beyond the politics to see his true nature as a good and kind man, no he would not have." , dost presume much.

Those such ast mineself and manna others who hae both the honor and the pleasure of knowing Dalamar ArD'aumon, long afore thee hae e'en lain eyes upon him knew him for the honorable and stalwart man he wast. Were Dalamar ne'er to hae attained the crown, he wouldst ast well hae been the man he was. Strong in adversity, loyal, forthright and upstanding e'en in the face of sadness and discouragement, e'en unto standing forth for those who didst bear
the brunt of insults, willingly lifting blade with no thought to himself or seeking personal gain.

Summer,
What's more important, you asked, regarding holding a ring or WoLs. To be honest, that's hard to answer one way or the other because I don't plan on challenging for overlord. If I do challenge for it, it's far from today, because I'm far from even remotely being a good representation as the surpreme duelist.
So what's more important? Most likely having 15+ wins over losses. I'm happy holding the tenth ring, and don't plan on giving it up anytime soon, even for the title of overlord. If I were to challenge as a baron, I would have to have serious issues with the overlord. Aside from that, I'd make sure I had 15+ Wins over Losses and 15 peer wins as a warlord.
That's just me, though.

<< So, now I argue, if Jaycy has earned her opportunity via becoming a warlord and next a baron why does she need ta continue ta earn WoLs if dey are merely a means ta da end (ie "extra stuff").>>

From what I been hearin' lately....Jaycy didn't win her ring under totally honorable circumstances. Honor...funny tastin' word but it's a word most of ya' people flock ta'. I been hearin' that Jaycy's challenge was basically void er somethin' but they snuck around the "rules" and "Officials" somehow and did the duel anyways.

I could actually give a rats ass about Jaycy....I don't know the broad from Adam, but if she didn't actually EARN her ring the "honorable" way and if there is ANY doubt whatsoever as ta' the fact of her match bein' valid or not, then there's more of a problem here than 15 WoL's.

This "sport" seems half made up of people dancin' around grey areas in the rules nowadays and it's a bit tedious...er whatever. I say that if what I been hearin' is true that Jaycy don't even deserve ta' be a baroness and should be stripped of the ring and her true rankin' be set in.

Sorry if I'm steppin' on toes...yea, right...but if the people in charge can't properly keep the DoS challenges within' the rules, then screw it...may as well just not have any requirements at all.

My two cents, don't like it? too bad, I'm bigger than you are.

Billy,

Ta Kal did speak about ta fox and ta lion. Well, Jaycy be a lion luv, for none dare challenge her. And she be ta fox...

I nae support what happen, but I understand it. But, do that action void her peer wins, do it make her win of the ring less complete?

After watching many a duel for a ring, I say nae.

And do many others, as she remains unchallanged.

<< nae support what happen, but I understand it. But, do that action void her peer wins, do it make her win of the ring less complete? >>

IF it is true then can I get a HELL YEA!? Damn straight cupcakes....if she won the ring by a lie then she has no business bein' a damn baron, let alone challengin' fer overlord.

Or do rules only apply to people we don't like?

The whole thing goes ta' hell when we have Mickey Mouse club members runnin' around doin' whatever the hell they please and noone says a damn thing because they're also callers.

Screw that kids, if she made a mistake she should have given the ring up...now that she keeps goin' on like she actually deserves ta' be a baroness, she should be stripped of the title and have her record zero'd out.

But the way she duels she'll probably do that herself.

None of this support from the Oakenshield faction would be here if it wasn't a friend...but that's life. Let's just call the duck a duck and get down ta' cuttin' it's head of, stuffin' it and servin' it up fer dinner eh?

One point I'm stumbling over is the question of why she wasn't challenged as a Baron.

Not that my opinion on the subject matters, but I personally would consider that 'kicking someone when their down.'

The title of Baron Should carry enough respect, for its own sake, that the Baron should be given the opportunity to get their standings in order without having to deal with some moron jumping all over them.

Just like I feel the title of Overlord should carry enough respect, for its own sake, that it should not be sought by those who lack even the smallest of qualifications.

Mrs. Oakenshield,

Your husband posed a question, to which I returned an answer. In both you might note the complete lack of names. Whether Jeffery intended it that way or not, I am not sure, but I intended my answer to be wholly divorced from Jaycynda's case. The reason for this is because it is a question of policy. Such a policy would effect all similar situations in the future, not simply those who have not been challenged, or whom you call friend.

Since you have deemed it necessary to introduce the present case, I must say that I find your argument, that lack of challenge speaks to Jaycy's strength, completely preposterous. Duelists challenge for a wide assortment of reasons. Perhaps Jaycy has not been challenged because she is friends with a great many of those seeking rings. Perhaps, as opposed to your argument, those duelists who challenge for the sake of competition, have avoided
challenging her because they feel it would be too easy a victory.

I do not claim to know exactly why she has not been challenged, but I feel certain that if we were to query those who have challenged barons other than her, very few would say they chose to avoid her because she was too strong.

You, of course, are free to delude yourself into thinking what you will

Mr. Ar'Din,

I suppose I be out of line ta bring up ta Jaycy that way in response ta ya thoughts. But I also suppose that it could be almost any Baron or Baroness I be jawing about.

I do see it as a policy luv. It be simple me thinks. A Baron's Ring be a prize, earned and won. If those about ya think ya unworthy, they move ta take it. That is ta way. As long as ta Baron done hold that ring, he hae a right ta privledges it affords - including challenging ta Over Lord.

Now, I do nae know what perposterous means - but me thinks that it nae a good thing ta be saying about me words. I do think that ta stregnth, in a Baron holding a ring, speak for itself.

If a Baron is off in ta arena, his wins over losses sinking fast, YET no challenge is issued or pressed successfully; methinks that common sense point ta only two reasons why that would be: 1) Stregnth of respect, and support of her reign, or 2)Fear of her skill in ta high tension ring of Challenge.

Nae matter how ya twist ya words, ya can nae argue ta fact. Ta Baron still stands, and tha' Baron do hae ta ring on his hand. Mayhaps all ta stregnth nae be in ta number of Wins over Losses.

Respectfully,

Var,

That be ya position, an as ya be a Baron it should be respected. As should ta positions of ta other Barons and Baronesses.

Now if there be some that nae like it. I say tell it ta Golden, by making a challenge.

I think this be a good way, of supporting or nae supporting a Baron or Baroness. And I do think that stripping a ring, or preventing a Baron or Baroness from exercising there privileges because of losses in ta grand Arena be silly.

All ya gonna get is a bunch of Barons and Baronesses scared ta go out and duel, because they may lose status. They just gonna step out enough ta keep themselves in ta standings and then go hide. Frankly, methinks we hae enough of those types as it is.

It be ruled that her Challenge stand, and she done pressed it and got ta ring.

So Billy, why don't ya get off that sweet arse of yas and do something about it?

If one is unfit to be Overlord in areas other than having the designated peer-wins to challenge a current overlord, they'll be sought out much quicker than a decent overlord. Granted, however, those unworthy in the first place will challenge despite a good overlord's reign, but that cycle would just lead to a constantly quick change of Overlords.

Billy, and anyone else -
Care to explain to me how a mistake in challenge-submitting procedure totally voids the fact that Jaycy managed to earn her ring the way everyone else does... in the ring through dueling? I'm not saying she's right and I'm not saying she's wrong. I'm just inquiring how sending a letter a few hours earlier than allowed makes Jaycy less worthy as a Baron than someone who won a ring by default when the challenged didn't respond.

There are a few things I'd like to point out that relate (somewhat) to the topic of people who are, as others say, "not worthy".

Take it to the ring:
I don't like this philosophy. Soon the arena would be a pillow everybody would punch in anger, if we took EVERY issue to the ring. It wouldn't be fun anymore just seeing people try to behead eachother because X thinks Y is an idiot. Some very serious issues are fine, but if one relies on the philosophy, they become dependent on it.

Strip them of their title:
While I am not intending to offend anyone here, but if we had everyone stripped of their title from the officials because they fumbled the ball, then we're in trouble regarding responsibility. That's one issue that really nips at my nerves sometimes. People mess up, and they say, "But... [insert excuse here]".
Even when people say "Oh that darn Second Guess Demon," I find to be sad. I see half the people blaming some outside, nonexistent entity on one of their mistakes. I know most have a tendency to say something else happened (on occassion, I don't see problems in that), but I see quite a few people making a regular habit of "copping out".

So what is the best solution? You do what you think is right. I'm just saying my opinion on things, and there is quite a bit unclear. However, if many people boil it down, you can consider this...

Samurais, when they dishonor their shogun, commit suicide.

Priests, and other religious figures, repent to their God(s) when they sin.

These are two examples of groups highly regarded by most, and one thing they share in common, is that they admit when they mess up. That's it in a nutshell, when one considers another worthy; responsibility.

If anyone is offended by the words above, then I will simply say something Lord Percival wisely said a long time ago: "I apologize for the offense, but not the opinion."

But it isn't, you see. For example, what of the Baron who dropped below the warlord level after only holding the ring for a week? What if that same Baron had taken the ring by forfeit, never having to step into a ring to prove him or herself? Where is the strength shown?

Certainly that Baron would not be entitled to your argument that lack of challenge equates to strength.

> If those about ya think ya unworthy, they move ta take it.

You make the assumption here that all of us believe in the challenging will solve everything philosophy. How one can believe that and still claim to make an argument for policy is not entirely clear to me. Not all duelists believe that the only way to commit change is through brute strength. Myself, I believe the only way to bring lasting change is through dialogue. Surely I might lift a blade and smite a foe when I feel they have done wrong ...
but none will learn or keep from doing the same in the future if I do not also explain why I have done so.

> Now, I do nae know what perposterous means - but me thinks that it nae a
> good thing ta be saying about me words. I do think that ta stregnth, in

Since I've yet to figure out what the word "ta" means, I suppose that would make us even. Preposterous roughly equates to - Absurd, poorly thought out, unsound, ridiculous or irrational... take your pick. Simply because no one has bothered to issue challenge does not mean the baroness instills fear in those seeking title. As I've already stated other possibilities, I don't believe I need to do so again here. Perhaps it is just some of that
dwarven stubbornness rubbing off from your husband that keeps you from comprehending the point. The only thing that is proven by none having challenged the Baron in question....... is that she has been untested other than by a single match that should not have been allowed to proceed in the first place.

Ask around to those who have challenged others than her. I doubt you'll find more than a handful who would indicate they withheld challenge from Jaycy because they thought her too skilled an opponent.
