A few words
Date: 9/19/97 7:32 PM Pacific Standard Time
From: DravenIl
I'd like to express my thanks to Mathias for officating this evening's challenge match between Lord Dalamar and myself. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank those who attended.
In fitting with the general impression of me, I'd like also to announce my disgust with the Overlord's sudden decision to test me. I do hope the coward rests well, content in the knowledge that a single point saved him from my blade.
Respond as you will; I'll pay no heed to further attacks on my character. I act as I choose. Do not attempt to define or dictate my disposition. And so, in accord with my apparent lack of honor, I do now state my intention to re-challenge Dalamar at the earliest possible convenience, should Nova Grey Shadow not prove victorious in his own venture. I'll not accept defeat from a man who lacked the courage to face me.

Draven,
I seek no further quarrel with you. Call me a coward if you will, for I am not the one who challenged a man who, due to injury, was unable to defend himself. I shall accept all of your insults to me as a person because I made a political decision after I was no longer binded by the promise I made to Valmion, and I stuck with it. I have found that my reign has earned me nothing by feelings of animosity from those around me, and I see no reason why that should be any different this time. Should you
choose to rechallenge, you can fully expect that Ellisa will stand in your way yet again the next time, as your loss to her tonight proved that you still have some work ahead of you before you deserve a true shot at the Overlord. Respond to this as you may, I will no longer argue with you on this matter or any other.
respectfully,
Lord Dalamar Ar'Daumon

Lord of the Dale

Dalamar,
I am forced to disagree with some things ye mentioned in your response to the Warlord Draven Alturis II. The most potent point I wish to address is where you state ye did not duel Draven due to injury. This would normally be a sound excuse had ye nae advertised for a duel, dueled, and even offered Draven a duel later in the night. I am curious what changed in those ten minutes. Perhaps if ye were miracously healed I shall step down from this point, but I dunnae believe this to be the case.

It does NOT matter if an Overlord is one armed, blindfolded, 1800 years old, purple, has reoccuring ulcers, wears a toupe' or smells of hemp. The fact of all matters is that it is the Overlords right to Test anyone. Anyone at all. The Overlord wins his title and all the perks and benefits that go along with it. I shall always firmly believe that the Overlord doesn't need a reason to Test anyone he considers Testable. If the Overlord gives us a reason, he is simply humoring us.
Rules state that a Challenger may be tested per the Overlord's wish. No questions, no dishonor, it is his RIGHT.
If I had my way, the Test of Worthiness would be a normal part of every Overlord challenge because "I" hold the position in that much esteem to believe that it "should'' be that difficult to win audience in the rings with the supreme duelist for Challenge. I base that belief on the same principles that I used to fight the changing of the Fancy rule 3 years ago.(and lost).
If Dalamar's leg hurt at the time of the Challenge, tough beans ye'all. Who ARE you to question the Overlord in the first place.

Lupton,
Perhaps if you had reas my post more carefully, you would have noticed that I did *not* state that my injury was the reason for the intecession. I merely questioned Draven's calling me cowardly based on his previous actions. While, now rereading my post, I can see how you would think I said that, I infact did not mean it to sound like that. Next time, before you choose to jump on something I've said, please make sure that you are quite sure about the point of the comment you are responding to.
Thank you.
sincerely,

Overlord Dalamar,
Ye do state in your response to the Warlord Draven Alturis II: "Call me a coward if you will, for I am not the one who challenged a man who, due to injury, was unable to defend himself." It would seem by me that this sentence states, that due to yer injury ye were unable to defend yerself in the ring. If I have misread this, which I possibly may have, then I apologize. Assuming I have not, however, I shall refer back to my former point. Ye state ye could nae duel due to injury yet dueled later in
the evening. If there is an explanation for this which I am unaware of I would be delighted to view it. However, if your statement in the response to the Warlord Draven Alturis II was only an untruthful excuse from a coward, then may your reign be short and your career full of losses.

Kaprielle;
As usual, you hurl meaningless words my way with no basis or explanation. Do move on and attempt to wrestle me from your focus.
Luthien;
I will not condemn the Overlord at a pin drop, yet I will question his decision to test someone as myself for obvious personal reasons. For weeks I've read nothing from Dalamar but fortellings of the ease with which he'll best me, and these words were stated after the initial challenge. I've watched him duel and heard of him duel since then. Yet now, on the evening of our challenge, I am expected to believe that he took a drastic turn for the worse and was unable to face me? I state now that I am not
unworthy, and, given the chance, would best the Overlord. Anyone who considers a 5-4 defeat in the full quota of fifteen rounds to be a sound loss is either a hypocrite or an ignorant fool.

Lupton,
Again, you chose to ignore the very obvious point I have made. I never told Draven that my decision to use a Champion was based on my injury, and I never claimed that I was totally incapable of dueling, simply that it is currently better if I do not. Unfortunately, you have no seen fit to insult me in your post, rest assured Lupton that those who call me a coward find themselves deprived of opportunities they seek when the time comes.

Dalamar,
Perhaps I may *once again* state your own words. "Call me a coward if you will, for I am not the one who challenged a man who, due to injury, was unable to defend himself." It is obvious to all that ye say the reason ye could nae defend yourself "[I, Dalamar] due to injury, was unable to defend himself." due to your injury. No matter how closely I read, this is what it says. Ye say Draven a coward for challenging an injured Overlord who "was unable to defend hiimself." So, if one is "unable to defend
himself" he would thusly have someone else duel for him. Yet, ye dueled no more than one hour later.

Many words may be spoken against ya, but it is by da same people. Yer loyalty base is far greater dan yer opposition. Keep calm wise Overlord. As ya have always, let yer blade speak fer ya. Good luck in future defenses, and in all of yer endeavors.

Dalamar,
What Lupton has accused you of is true. You misstated yourself. You did in fact say that you chose to test Draven because you are injured. Now because I believe you are not a coward and are one of the best duelists in DoS, if not the best, I believe that you misstated yourself rather than that you lied.
Here's the story. I don't like tests of worthiness anymore than anyone else. When I was the overlord, there was no such thing. I had to defend my title against whomever challenged.
But I do agree that they are necessary because of the number of people eligible to challenge the overlord, and I do believe that it is the overlord's fundamental right to test a challenger no matter what his or her reason for doing so. Just as I believe it is a challenger's right to challenge any title holder for whatever his or her reason may be.
Draven,
You say that you do not care when people attack you now verbally. Then don't respond. Simply let any misconceptions continue for now and end if you challenge and beat Dalamar in the future.
Let us stop silly verbal quarreling. Fight in the rings. That's where the real action is at.
