She carefully peruses the scribblings, mindful that a girlchild is the writer. She set quill to parchment, pausing now and then to glance around. Replacing the quill in her pouch she tacks the parchment to the cork.

Sara

Lassie, it wouldst seem thee hae a wee difficulty comprehending. Let me rephase a bit in simpler words. Why dost thee think ye wouldst make a better Baron that Gimzak Stonecutter? What aire thine reasons for believing thineself worthy to seek titled rank?
The Baron Daelin hast commented verra well with regard to thine supposition that the Baron Gimzak has nae been active. Perhaps ast wast said thee were simply nae in the dueling house when the Baron wast present. Dost seek the Ring ast a trophy, a bauble, a pretty decoration for thine hand? Lass, this ist nae a girls' school and tis nae a soccer game.

I must say I find it rather odd thee seems to believe "everyone" feels like they have to stop you from challenging, though perhaps expected considering thee aire a child and mayhap canna comprehend ast well ast some adults. Thee shall pardon me, lassie, but I am of a mind that thee dinna think atall before thee issued challenge save that thee think tis fun, a mindset which be understandable for some children, certes.

Sara, lass, comparing the wielding of steel to a girl's soccer match ist much like comparing a neutron star to a candle. Tis true some folk think it be fun to hae a blade driven into their innards. Personally, lass, it hurts like hades, the wards nae withstanding. Thee hae already stated thee dinna expect respect from the other Barons. A rather sweeping statement lass, one more oft made in childish pique and petulance. Aire we to presume the
other Barons hae stated such unto thee? Lass, thee hae stated thee dinna plan on winning yet shall strive to do thine best. The striving is laudable, yet if thee dinna plan on winning whyfore e'en strive? Ast for the rest of thine comments, thee aire eleven years old, therefore tis to be expected thine comments wouldst be rather childish.

Tis doubtful that anna but perhaps thine kith and kin wouldst garner a headache in dealing with thee. Tis ast well understandable, given thine young years, that thee wouldst hae little understanding beyond childish pursuits. Thine age lass, and thine childish attempt to garner pity from the adults by stating they wouldst mayhap savor having "robbed a girl of her childhood excitement all because of the envy..." speaks more of childish pique and
mayhap a dearth of understanding considering thine age. Were mine daughter to behave in such a manner, the lass wouldst be set to mucking out the middens for a month.

Thee may feel the ring deserves a stronger presence, ast ist certes thine right, lassie. I am of a mind that the Baron Gimzak Stonecutter, despite mine disagreements with the dwarf, ist indeed a strong presence in the dueling house ast well ast elsewhere. I must inquire, howe'er, if writing a missive brings pain unto thine hand, I should wonder thee canst manage to wield a blade overlong.

Lass, nae shall I hold that annaone, age, gender, race, sentience, comprehension, intelligence, religion, affiliations isna within their "rights", once having earned their bona fides, to throw down the gauntlet. Howe'er, simply in that thee may hae the "right" dinna make doing such "right". Tis a concept which may fly o'er thine head, lass, considering thine young age.

Since I know little of thine upbringing, thine kith and kin or of thine homeland and customs, perhaps that explains thine mindset or perhaps thee were influenced by those within the dueling house who aire seeming like minded in that the mere earning of their bona fides somehow makes them believe that alone makes them worthy to seek titled rank. A shallow presumption, lass, though one a child might easily be led to believe.

Cordially,
Jonalyn Starfare

Mrs. Starfare,

Before I try to answer your elaborate missive, perhaps you can define what makes one person a better baron than another.

<<Why dost thee think ye wouldst make a better Baron that Gimzak Stonecutter? What aire thine reasons for believing thineself worthy to seek titled rank?>>

May I pose a question?

OK. Why should someone have to make a better baron in the first place? Believe it or not, these are merely ranks in a game, not a position of omnipotent reign! And, why should one have to prove themself worthy? It seems that by the very virtue of her beating the Warlords and earning the right to challenge, she should be worthy.

Sara, kick butt in the fight. Are we the only two who realize that the game is for fun?

Sounds like common sense to me

Dae,

Being a more active baron/ess can make it fun.

Drey,

What are you talking about m'friend?

Sara,

I have no problem with you challenging lass. As long as your able to weild a blade you should be able to "advance" yourself..but I was merely asking questions that seem to be loose. Anyway...I have no problems with you as a person either so I'm deciding to step out of this discussion before someone says something someone may regret. Best of luck to ye in yer endeavour.

The Baronies and Overlordship are titles, not ranks. Only qualified people ranked as Warlords at the time of challenge or tourney can be granted the right to challenge or attain the title.

Lady Jona,

I dont mean to be rude in my statements here, but I want to make a point, if I can.

You ever been a baron? ::looks under the histories:: Nope. Well, how then do you know the responsibilities of being Baron?

I was a baron. I know the responsibilities well. Guess what. Its not that big of a deal.

I was there when a lot of weird stuff was happening. I was there when Dal got censored. Thing is, that wasnt the strangest thing that I had to vote on. But you know what? I found that with thirteen rings, my vote, while of course it mattered, wasnt the end of the world.

The responsibilities arent that big of a deal. The issues brought forth are not that complicated, trust me, I think a 7 year old could handle most of them. Sara seems to have a good judge of moral, and thats all you need. Duel of Swords is a sport. If Sara makes baron, she wont hold one bit of sway over our lives. We dont have to look up to her, we dont have to respect her. I've not respected some barons, oh well, ya know? It didnt matter.
Gimm hasnt changed my life or my dueling in any way I can see. So, my point? What the heck does it all matter?

Cass,

I do not wish to be rude, but I do not remember you being a Baron during the Council when Dal got censored. I could swear that I voted on that matter. Maybe my memory is failing, but I could swear to it.

At least the little girl is smart enough to know not to bother with HDT. At least she recognizes worthlessness when she sees it.

Maybe ya didn't have any responsibilities because ya weren't an important baron. Not all barons carry da same weight, nor da same burdone. Its up ta da baron ta TAKE responsbility and make his own mark. Responsibility doesn't come lookin' fer da baron, da baron goes lookin' fer responsbility. In fact, I should hope da quest starts when yer a warlord makin' challenge.

Well, As Jeff already answered this pretty much I'll throw my two cents in, since I am the topic of discussion here.

Being a Baron is what YOU the person wearing the ring makes of it. When Dalamar was OL, he intreceeded for me in my first challenge. Something not everyone thought was right.
I was new at the time to being a Baron, and after Dal lost the crown, I changed my stance and stood against the Intercession.

I was called a hypocrite among other things. I stepped in against Eros when Huma challenged Morgan for her ring. I didn't step in becuase I was Huma's friend, I did it because I was agasint the Intercession.

Being a Baron has ment alot to me. I've taken an active role in political things as well as other things. In my eyes I feel I've been a good Baron.

No I haven't been active in the arena lately. My schedule has been rather tight, not allowing me the time to go there. A Baron doesn't have to just duel to show his worth. There is much more to it then that.

>>At least the little girl is smart enough to know not to bother with HDT. At least she recognizes worthlessness when she sees it.>>

Ecore, I once respected you. After this assinine statement..You've lost my respect.
