::stands reading the notices in a bit of shock::
Ladies and Gentleman of the DoS,
Under the circumstances, I planned on refraining from responding to this, but since it's got this far I will voice my opinion as diplomatically as possible.
First off.. I agree with Lupton on the point of the injury. I saw the duel in question.. it was finished before Draven returned to the arena.
Second.. and this is what goads me most.. Valmion informed me of his agreement with Dalamar to not give Draven the test of worthiness. Valmion informed Draven of said agreement. According Dalamars post to this board he was released from this verbal contract by Valmion when Draven resigned from Questrion as Knight Marshal. In all fairness I believe Draven should have been told of this decision by Valmion or Dalamar. When he arrived he was expecting what he had been told would be a challenge free of this
test.
Yes, life isn't fair... but really was that an honorable thing to do?

::a brief note::
Perhaps a more pertinent question might be why Valmion made such an arrangement with the Overlord... or, perhaps, why the Overlord agreed to it.
I find the whole matter passing strange. Obviously, the arrangement was not with Lord Altruis, for this to have transpired such.

Collie and other members of the community,
It was a simple matter for me, when Draven was a member of House Questrion, to do what I would do for any member of the house. I went to the Overlord and used both friendship and politics to get Draven an intercession free challenge. I wish to note that I strained both the former and the latter in getting the Overlord to agree to such, but did do as I would for any member of the house. I will also add that this decision bore heavily on me, as Draven was not the most, shall we say, likeable fellow in
the Arena.
Then, as I heard many rumors for a week, stating that Draven was going to leave Questrion after his challenge match, I must say that I became more disturbed about the situation. Draven finally made it easy on me and the rest of House Questrion when he quit, as after he left, I felt I now owed him nothing in this challenge attempt.
I informed the Overlord that there was not longer a connection between House Questrion and Draven, so I withdrew my request of favor from the Overlord. I will be as honest as to say that I even asked to be the one testing the challenger.
So there you have it Collie, plain and simple and to the point. Hope this clears up any misunderstandings in this area.
Sincerely,
Lord Valmion

Unless I'm mistaken, a "normal" duel would not cost Dalamar, or any Overlord, his rank. That can only come via a challenge. If that is indeed correct, then I can easily see why Dalamar would be willing to duel a "normal" duel but not a challenge match, while injured. Surely an injury would cost him some. There's much more at stake in a challenge. That's not something *I* would want to risk while not at my best, but a "normal" duel would be fine.
Just my thoughts.

<< I state now that I am not unworthy, and, given the chance, would best the Overlord. Anyone who considers a 5-4 defeat in the full quota of fifteen rounds to be a sound loss is either a hypocrite or an ignorant fool.>>
Draven, it ain't a sound loss, it was a close match. But one thing I had ta' swalloow a few times in my career is that 5-4 or 5-0 is a loss, there ain't no second places in an overlord challenge.

Colleen,
One thing that most people are fogettin' here is that half the battles faught are won before the even reach the battlefield. Even *if* Val and Dal made a deal and Draven was still a part of Questrion at the time of the duel it would have been in the Overlords best interest ta' pull a last minute whammy and have Draven Tested.
Sometimes ya' gotta Rob Peter ta' pay Paul. If ya' think Dal really gives a fig what any of ya' care about him ya' should think again. He's the top dog and the rest of us gotta sleep on the porch.
Dal,
Good defense, yer da' man.
