History is for scholars -- Any out there?

Dear sirs and madams,
For those of you who are blessed enough not to have met me, my name is SaRandal DeLamana. I am mearly a young dueler, and I am here with only a simple question. I do not wish to incite another argument, though I fear one will ensue. I do not believe that there exists, in the History section of the Arena, or anywhere else, a fairly complete history of the duel of swords. Yes, there are records, but they are not exactly suitible for learning the
history of this place. Is there any document, or collection of documents, that would give a glimse into the past of DoS? One that would show what it was like way back? One that would tell of the beginnings of the ranking system, the beginnings of this sport. And if not, would anyone be willing to share with me what they remember? As well as being a student of the sword, and of dueling, I wish to be a student of history. I am sorry for taking up
so much time and space. In advance, my thanks.
SaRandal De'Lamana

M'Lord De'Lamana.
Though there are many who have knowledge of the past, I have only heard the same stories over and over.
I could show you the old Standings sheets... unfortunately, they are even smaller windows to the actions of the past.
What they will show you though, are the names of those who were actually directly involved in those long-past events... just as the Histories of the Baronial Rings and the Crown show the names of those people.
You can, of course, ask people who sat on the sidelines and watched... but if you really wish to know the feelings and the heart of what happened so long ago, you should talk to the people who did those things.
And before you ask, or someone tells you, I am not one of those people who was around so long ago. I have found myself in the midst of the more recent debates, and the more recent decisions... so if you wish insight into those things, I believe I can help you there.

M'Lady Gryphon,
My thanks for responding my request as you did. I had figured I would have to seek out the older folks, and I was hopeing one or two of them might respond to my post, and tell a tale or two. As to the more recent events, I would love to learn about them. I'd particularly like to know about Dalamar, for everyone seems to have had much respect for the man. I arrived in this land only a week or so after his death. I remember reading all of the
rumors about his possible return and such, but when I returned from my, vacation, I could not find anything about him, other than that he was truely dead. I have read what the histories say of him, but I want to know more. Again, my thanks.
Sincerly,
SaRandal De'Lamana

Sir SaRandal,
If you wish to know about the Lord Ar'Daumon, I trust you will find great answers in his closest friends..those being the ones that took him to Avalon upon his death.. Morgan le Fay, former Baroness of the Fifth and Sartan, former Baron of the Sixth. Also one of his dearest friends, Jeffrey Oakenshield, Baron of the Eighth and his love Sidartha Elgarette. I know a few things about him but I was not very close tot he man but these people will provide
you with answers and I'm sure without much pain..Also, if you seek an extensive history I suggest you seek out Madame Jonalyn Starfare as Lexi stated, Sir Elijah Ecore, Lady Simini or one of the recently returned "old-timers" Billy Ray Karnafexx and the Draconian Bapheloc. Have a nice day.

Jonalyn Starfare and Kalamere Ar'Din are perhaps the best sources for historical information.

M'lord Daelin,
Thank you for the advice. I will be seeking out the Lady Jonalyn, eventually, and I will ask of the people you mentioned. I would ask Sir Ecore, but he has said he will not share his rememberences. As for Sir Karnafexx, I don't think he would help me. Again, my thanks.
Humbly,
SaRandal De'Lamana

::scribed in her thin, feminine penmanship::
Mr. De'Lamana,
I would be happy to relate any history or "stories" that I may have knowledge of, although I am not glib enough to pull a "story" out of nowhere and tell a tale. ::smiles at the picture that thought makes:: Please do not hesitate to ask me if there is anything in particular with which I may be able to assist you.
Also, you may want to look for the Duely Noted, when it resumes publication. It is my understanding - although I am not the editor - that there may be historical articles carried there in the future. Specifically, there has been talk of reprinting my old "Simini's Swords" column, although with the recent change in management, I am unsure as to whether this will indeed come through.
From your missives, you seem a polite and eager fellow... I believe I shall enjoy relaying to you whatever small parts of Duel of Swords history I am able.

I too was a friend, loyalist, and student of Dalamar. I'll share what I know about him, though it appears you already have more than enough references to get a well rounded opinion of the man.

I, also, am willing to share stories about my beloved Dalamar with you, should you so ask, as well as whatever other part of the past I can.
