Commoners, Swordsmen, M@As, and GMs deemed unimportant.

Tis a sad day in DoS indeed...

House Oakenshield had offered da DoS officials, 6 callers fer 2 nights ta manage a tourney fer da lower ranks, all it asked was an official sanctioning of da tourney so it could provide official DoS prizes. Da officials claimed it could not sanction a tourney because it wasn't RDIs calling, but when was da last time RDIs call a tourney fer lower ranks?

Lower ranks get shafted in DoS, Warlords get tourneys every 3 months. Da DoS officials were scared *every* house would spring up and ask fer a tourney. But I don't know of any house capable of manning a 64 dueler tourney other dan Oakenshield and Dragoon-Talanador. It was just another excuse so da lower ranks don't get ta have some fun. Oakenshield has nothin' ta gain, none of our members were entered in da tourney, we were simply da callers so
others could have some fun...and we were turned away. Now if we want a tourney we have ta offer up some paper prize no one will fight for anyhow.

I suggest if anyone feels da DoS officials have gone too far in backin' da Rhydin rules ((Forum rules)) ya write a letter of complaint. DoS is about da *duelers*, da officials keep da records but its NOT about dem.

Sickened,

Jaycy reads the letter from Jeff and frowns, shaking her head slightly. Grabbing a piece of paper, she pens a swift note.

Jeff,

Well said. You have given me much to think about.

Frankly, it's not logical to assume that the DoS would sanction such an event. While it certainly is a good idea, lets think about it logically.

If non Officials call this match, you will definately have those out there who will take the oppurtunity to yell "Favortism" and "Cheat" because you're simply friends.

While it wouldn't be true, and I, for one, trust pretty much everyone in OAK, the same does not go for other lower ranks.

Add to that the fact that it's an official DoS event, and you have another screaming session about unfairness. At this time, it's not a good thing.

If HDT had tried something like this, I know of several people who would yell Cheat for no other reason than to stir trouble.

Gnort,

Just because a person wears an RDI uniform, doesn't give 'em any more credibility dan bein' a veteran DoS dueler. We've had a lot of accusations against RDI callers, especially in special matches (challenges or tournies). People in uniform are often regulars in da arena, people know who deir friends are, and da concern is da same. "Your not RDI official callers" is a lame excuse. Perhaps DoS trusts RDIs more, but I doubt commoners would trust
'em any more or less especially if *we* were da ones goin' outta our way ta give 'em a tourney da RDIs won't.

Is a little sad he wont get to call some of those duels. Frowns just a bit about the whole situation.

Folks.... all i have to say is that you must fight for your right.... Commoners, Swordmen, M@A, and GMs.. if this does sound like a good idea.... do as my boss said. Write your local official, and complain about the man getting you down once again. Hell, OAK has nothing to gain from this, and we were just offering our own time to watch some of the younger duelers have fun.

Spike,

Aye, it was many a year ago, when I be a commoner. It be grand fun, and did give me a bit of ta spirit of competition besides ta nightly bashing in the rings.

Gnort,

Luv, ta basis of ta sport be trust. If ya hae no trust in ta one who be calling ya duels, then why ta heck ya dueling? It would be an Oak tourney with Oak callers. I dare any ta say we would spoil ta sport with unfair calling. There just be nae fun in that.

To ta Officials,

This be a community, and we be offering some support ta ta ones moving up ta ranks. Support that ta overworked RDIs just be stretched ta provide I hazard.

What be ta harm in allowing us ta hae a bit of fun? What be ta harm in ta prize being of significance.

Dear Jeff,

Your idea is a good one and will be welcome by many, l am sure. Do not let your idea die just because some officials declined your generous offer. To those who still duel for honor it does not matter where the price came from, but that it'll be won with honor and skill.

l recall one brave commoner's tale of winning one such tourny. That it was sanctioned and called by the officials did not even get mentioned in the telling of the tale. The challenges met in each ring along the way were told off and the unbelievable moment of hearing "Congratiolations. You won." The pride was evident in every word and guesture as l was shown the price won by the then commoner. Given to the winner by the then reigning overlord, a set
of daggers, fashioned with intricate detail. The sum of the price, by who the price was given, the words acompanying the price, and the challenges fought made the moment a a truely special moment in the carrier of that dueler.

l am sure, a price hard dueled for, presented by the head of House Oakenshield, a charming dwarf, the dueler with officially the most wins collected ever, would be equally covetted and treasured.

If you're in need of a watergirl to offer the duelers of your invitational tourny refreshments between rounds, l would be honored to be considered.

Sincerely, Topaz

If there is a tourney held, I'd like to help in any way I can by officiating, or helping the tourney seeding.

Heck, when was the last commoner's tourney? It's been a very long time. A lot of the people probably don't even remember the prize (because, actually, the last one was before they even stepped in the ring); honorary Overlord for the week.

I think the arena is due for another one of those tourneys.

I have a different problem, it seems EVERYONE is being left out as 65% of the time there is no official to call. Call me crazy, but the numerous times I have tried dueling, no one is there.

Jeff,

'Tis a grand idea an' one I think OAK should continue with. As one of the longest running Commoners, a prize from you and your House would be cherished more than something "official". If I want "official", I'll keep working at my dueling and, hopefully, raise in rank.

As for the Commoner's Tourney...I remember that. It was fun...even tho' my first opponent was a Warlord in disguise.

I say ta hell with the officials and hold it anyway....I know *I* would be more than grateful to OAK for the precious time they offer.

Lords an' ladies o' the Duel o' Swords,

I'd like ta clarify somethin' on this matter, if I may.

A' no time was there e'er a rulin' tha' House Oakenshield cou' nae hold its own Tourney, with wha'e'er prizes lay within its power ta offer. Many Houses, as Elijah pointed ou', have held Tourneys in the past an' will continue to in the future (an additional note: ye can add Covington ta tha' list, they held one years ago.). An' the Team Duelin' League an' Duel o' Core, certainly variations o' the spor' run by patrons, had an' have rankin' systems
an' prizes within themselves separate from the Duel o' Swords.

The problem herein is tha' we were requested ta offer as prizes fer a House Tourney official changes in rank in the Duel o' Swords. Ta ha'e the Tourney create official changes as such, t'wou' ha'e ta be an official event. An', as Jeff did state, curren' law declares tha' onla trained hosts may officiate such events. I' has nothin' ta do wi' trust. I' has ta do wi' tha' bein' the job we were hired for.

Now, were a regular Tourney fer the lower ranks ta be suggested as an addition ta the rules, in the same way Warlord Tourneys are declared in the rules, t'wou' be a matter worth considerin'. Or if the suggested Tourney style were used fer the next special even'. These wou' then be official Tourneys an' ha'e wi' them prizes which wou' be reflected on the Standin's. Until such time, howe'er, the suggested Tourney, bein' run by a House, dinnae an'
cannae affec' a person's rank on the Standin's anna more'n any House Tourney has befer.

((OOC note: As far as Commoner Tourneys: Those have typically been held in conjunction with AmeriCon, as a special event feature to highlight the DoS. Last year, AmeriCon was delayed several months, and then the DoS was shut down durring AmeriCon, so no Tourney was available.))

Didn't Jen Star win some sort of non-Warlord's Tournament fairly recently?
