If I recall the winning commoner of one tourney became Overlord for a week. So at some point DoS didn't have a problem with a tourney for lower ranks.
It would possibly be of more benefit to the duelers to be offered prizes such as sessions with a dueler of their choice. Or mayhaps you give the winning duelers from top prize on down ex amount of gold to be used in a famous RhyDIn, Bachelor/bachelorette auction. More incentive to win, eh?
Jeff, I have to say that I would prefer a tournament off of DoS soil. It would be refreshing to be in a controlled enviornment (with plenty of brandy), so I can scout William and my leather team for next season.
Selfishly,
Kapri

Hey, if those kids learned how to duel well, they could join the Warlords in a tournament. Until they do, the commen boys get a tournament a year and that's it. They don't deserve anything destracting. Quit your whinning.

My opinion .. should jes keep with a warlords tourney .... it gives lower ranks something to work towards .. you start having official tourneys for every rank you lose the importants of being a warlord .. its an honor to be able to be in a tourney it shows you worked your arse off to get where you are and now are able to participate in this grand event...

Ladies and Gentlemen of DoS,
I am happy ta announce my idea fer a tournament was approved by Goldendust Evermeadow, Coordinator of DoS. I humbly retract any complaints I issued towards da officials of our sport. I would like ta comment dat it was a misunderstanding, a miscommunication between myself and Goldendust which we resolved. I am truly satisfied by his ruling, and I hope all no hard feelings exist. So, be on da lookout fer da tourney details, I shall be postin' 'em
soon!
Registration will not begin until details are posted, don't flood me mailbox just yet, but I can't wait ::grins::

Enough is enough. I'm a Master at Arms, yet NO ONE would call me a cruddy dueler. Ranking is only half of skill.

I knew temper tantrums and slanderous letters could get a person thier way! Bravo Jeff.
On a serious note though, It would of been better, as many have stated, to just hold your tournament "in house" and have one of your dwarven buddies fashion some sort of first prize. I'm sure that being overweenie for a week is swell but it's not really a prize with any longevity. I propose that you throw in something more material to go along with whatever phantom accolades the DoS officials are willing to fork over.
Just my more intelligent opinion.

I must disagree here.
Temper tantrums and slanderous letters were not what got this approved. Golden, having been very busy, was unable to give his official approval to the event and Jeff's offered prize until Friday night.
Turi and I were merely giving what our opinions were based upon the rules and precedents that had been set previously.
Actually, I was just staying out of it and Turi was saying she couldn't give approval...
Patience would have gotten the same result, with much less aggravation all around.
A lesson for life.
