Greetings community of the Duel of Swords,
House Oakenshield has chosen to sponsor a tournament for all duelers with the rank of Grandmaster or below. It will be open to any persons who fall under this category up to a maximum of 64 entries. The rules for the House Oakenshield Tournament are as follows:
- Tournament is open to any duelers with the rank of Grandmaster or below (max 64)
- Tournament will be single elimination format in its entirety
- Duelers will retain the number of fancies they carry in the sport of DoS, however they will be restricted in use to *1* more than your opponent is capable of. Example: Grandmaster vs. Commoner - GM has 1 fancy; Grandmaster vs. Master at Arms - GM has all 3 fancies because the M@A has 2 fancies. (This rule mirrors the restriction placed on the Overlord and Barons of DoS)
Two prizes will be awarded in this tournament, for 1st and 2nd place.
1st place dueler will swap ranks with Jeffrey Oakenshield, Senior baron of DoS for a duration of two weeks. They will be granted the right to wear the 8th ring of DoS and their name will be listed in the DoS standings as a baron, Jeffrey will become whatever rank wins this tournament for two weeks time.
2nd place dueler will swap ranks with Avery Shiv Blade, Baron of DoS for a duration of two weeks. They will be granted the right to wear the 12th ring of DoS and their name will be listed in the DoS standings as a baron, Avery will become whatever rank takes 2nd place in this tournament for two weeks time.
The tournament shall take place over the weekend of June 12th-13th (both Saturday and Sunday). Please take this into consideration before registering for the tournament. Should any entries drop out, and less than 64 duelers be entered, we will be accepting walk in entries on June 12th. The tournament will begin promptly at 9:00 pm EDT.
To register for this tournament please send a letter to Jeffrey Oakenshield (J Oaknshld) titled "Tournament Registration". In the letter please include your full name and your current DoS rank. If your rank increases in DoS between the time you register and the tournament, you will be allowed to duel as the higher rank. The standings present at the time of June 12th will be the deciding factor in which rank you duel as.

I like and approve of this tourney.
However, my only question is of the prizes.
Both the 1st and 2nd place winners are recieving the title of Baron for two weeks?
Wouldn't it be better to give the First place high prize, then Second place a lower one, like Warlord? This way, the two top contenders for the prize have something to strive for instead of saying "Well, doesn't matter who wins, we're both gonna be Barons"?
Either way, however, I commend Jeff and Alex for their offer of giving up their ranks for Two Weeks. It's sure to be a great deal of fun. :)

I'd hope that since they are legal barons, that they'd have to accept the challenge themselves. What's the fun in being a baron if there's no risk of ever losing the title. Well, I'll just have ta' have a little confab with Golden and get the exact limits of this here title myself.
So we have either A) Joe commoner wins the title of baron but it's nothing more than a nickname and carries no actual baron status, in effect being just another worthless prize. or B) The winner actually is a baron with all rights and privileges along with all the dangers of having a "real" title himself. That would be the real prize.

The answer is simple. You will give the snotty commoners a ring and tell them that they can't do anything with it except look at it. If I got my hands on that ring in the tournament, and told me that I was a Baron, except that I couldn't defend it, I couldn't align it, I couldn't challenge with it, I could be political with it... basically told me that I couldn't be a Baron, I'd throw it back at your feet and hope that my lips are accurate when I try
to spit on it… then move my aim at you.

I don't mean to step in for Lord Braggart, but there is a difference Sid. In the snotty commy tourney, they tell you that you hold no power. Alongside that, you share the crown with the current Overlord that holds the position.
In this joke of a tournament, the Baron and the winner switch positions, actually make the transfer of rank. Hear, let me highlight Deff's words...

So, as I understand it, the standings is what everyone goes by as the final say. You see, if I am a Grand Master, at fourteen WoL's, and last week, I went 4-0 (which would up my WoL's to 18), I would still have to duel as Grand Master until the new standings are posted... even if I knew I was a Warlord that week.
But, in this case, even though the snotty commoner is posted as Baron... they are not a Baron. This is just full of logical sense here. It's like you're throwing crap upon crap. How can someone be a Baron without everything that goes along with it?
Come on, if you're going to give a prize to these little'ns, you can at least not tease them with it. You're treating them worse than I like to.
