Ideas from the Meeting Last Night

Members of the Community;

First of all, to everyone who attended the Community Meeting last night, I would like to say thank you very much. I was very impressed by the way things went and with the ideas that were presented at the meeting. At this time, I would like to post a list of the suggestions and ideas offered at the meeting; as well as ask for more ideas, input on current ideas, comments, suggestions on how to carry out the various ideas/projects in the community,
and concerns. If I forgot anything discussed last night in this listing, my most humble apologies.

With that, the list.

1- A DoS Community cleanup. From what I understand, the intent of this would be to not only bring the community together to improve the DoS, but as well to give us all a feeling of accomplishment. If I'm wrong, please correct me on that.

2- A DoS social event. Already Sid has begun work on one. Any help for her would be greatly appreciated.

3- A Tournament for the RDI's. This is pretty much self explanatory; something to give back to the RDI's for all the hard work they do. ( And no, I didn't suggest this, this time. )

4- Teaching sessions for the newer duelers, in all aspects of the sport.. dueling, traditions, etiquette.

5- A time for telling the histories of the DoS... like a "History Hour." I believe it was meant to have a specific time each week set aside to tell stories of the past, so the duelers might know a lil' of the long and rich history in DoS.

6- A night devoted entirely to the newer duelers, perhaps combining ideas 4 and 5, so they might know what to expect while they're in the rings during official dueling nights; so they might get a feel for the duels ( practice ) before actually moving on to an official duel.

7- A poetry or story contest of some sort, relating history on the boards so people might have the chance to learn something of the history and have some fun while doing so.

8- The overdue annual auction, to help raise funds for the RhyDin Orphanage.

9- Renovating the skyboxes; a community task.

Again, thank you all.

Jaycy~~~

Something that I enjoyed when I first came to RhyDin, and had hoped would continue was a Bard Fest. It was wonderful. A bunch of us got together in the Nexus and recited poetry and told outrageous stories. Two years ago was supposed to have been the *First Annual Bard Fest*, but I never heard of another after that, but I would love to see it. I think that would an entertaining way to spend some time with each other. Maybe this might fall under
the *social event* category that Sid is working on?

Poetry? History hour? Like stoytime? No offense, but come on. That's rather guildish.

Community cleanup? I didn't even dirty anything...

Dearest G,

Would you take offense to a few more changes? Perhaps frilly curtains to brighten the arena...a small, lacy doily under your mug of ale to catch the drips, m'lord.

Sincerely,
Lady Noelle
(I aim to please*)

P.S. Please advise your preference...white or ecru.

Actually, the social event I was working on was more of a masquerade ball or something close to it. However, I'm sure something could be worked out.

I think I sold for a quarter.....that's 25 cents, last time. You'd butter bring a few more bits if you want me involved this time.

Jaycy wanders back to the boards; now leaving her first set of comments as sent to the Baron's Council.

Heyas again, everyone.

Alright... I sent out the notes a day or two ago, now I'm gonna voice my concerns, comments, etc.

1- A DoS Community cleanup. From what I understand, the intent of this would be to not only bring the community together to improve the DoS, but as well to give us all a feeling of accomplishment. If I'm wrong, please correct me on that.

I really really like this idea; but... the only problem I see with it is getting the community to take part. We can't force them, and how many would be willing to spend time cleaning? Maybe something we can do is every once in a while do this; and hopefully as it becomes more common and known and more people help, the amount of people to pitch in will go up. Maybe for this first time, we, as a
Council, do it?

2- A DoS social event. Already Sid has begun work on one, as you all should have gotten her letter. Any help for her would be greatly appreciated.

I've no comments on this, as something is already in the works.

3- A Tournament for the RDI's. This is pretty much self explanatory; something to give back to the RDI's for all the hard work they do. ( And no, I didn't suggest this, this time. )

Yes, I very much like this idea. Maybe the Monday/Tuesday after the Warlord Tourney; if we can get approval from Golden? That'll put it in right after the WLT, and before Jeff's tourney. Also, I was wondering if we could/should invite the officials of the other two sports... they work as hard as the DoS callers do; and if they know how to use a blade, why not?

4- Teaching sessions for the newer duelers, in all aspects of the sport.. dueling, traditions, etiquette.

This idea I like, but again, my concern is that there are several Houses in the DoS that already offer dueling classes; or have those that do teach on a more private level. Maybe we, as a community, can focus less on dueling and more on the traditions and etiquette of the DoS; and leave the dueling teaching to the Houses. My only question is; who would be willing to teach?

5- A time for telling the histories of the DoS... like a "History Hour." I believe it was meant to have a specific time each week set aside to tell stories of the past, so the duelers might know a lil' of the long and rich history in DoS.

I'm mixed on this. The idea itself has potential, but I don't know if I like something so formal as a special time set aside. While history has its place, we are living in the here and now; and that should be a focal point instead of "When I was a new dueler; so-and-so was Overlord, and the greatest Overlord to live..." I like the thought of the history being told as it comes out; not at a specific time each week, each day, whatever.

6- A night devoted entirely to the newer duelers, perhaps combining ideas 4 and 5, so they might know what to expect while they're in the rings during official dueling nights; so they might get a feel for the duels ( practice ) before actually moving on to an official duel.

Another very good idea in potential, but the implementation is where I have a concern. One night a week is all we each really need to volunteer; if all of us do just one night, that's half the month. And any other night when we're not doing it, others can.

7- A poetry or story contest of some sort, relating history on the boards so people might have the chance to learn something of the history and have some fun while doing so.

I don't see that much interest for a poetry contest in the halls of a bloodsport; most are here to beat each other up, not recite poetry. A fine idea, I think; but not one for this sport.

8- The overdue annual auction, to help raise funds for the RhyDin Orphanage.

I'm slightly biased, but yes yes yes. I'd like to see the return of this event, and I've no problems running it if no one else will.

9- Renovating the skyboxes; a community task.

This is another one I definitely say yes to. I think this, even more than the community cleanup, would give everyone a sense of accomplishment and togetherness... the serving lads do a good job cleaning, so there isn't always much to be done; but with the skyboxes, the results would be very obvious.

That's all I have.. comments, thoughts?

Jaycy chuckles, remembering a time when she was a part of the Bard Fest. Smiling as she remembers the poem she recited that night, she pens a note to Khrys.

Khrys,

Should you feel there is interest in a night of poetry in the DoS, then go ahead and set up an event for that. If *you* feel a "Bard Fest" is a social event you wanna see, go for it. There is no committee deciding each and every event; in fact, I'm encouraging everyone to do something they wanna see. It's all about all of us interacting and working together, and for each other. So, if ya wanna see it done, just do it.

::Sniffs::

Gosh, G, you don't like either of the ideas I presented; the poetry contest and the community clean-up.
Don't be surprised when your stocking is empty this Christmas.

On a serious note, however... I have reasons for suggesting the two mentioned above. To begin with, I feel that community morale, in general, would be increased if we could do something for the place we duel in.
In regards to the poetry, yes, dueling is a blood sport. This is where the greatest warriors have dueled for years. We have yet to see some great warriors, however, for there is a great warrior within. How you feel can be best expressed through poems and stories.
Moreover, this was branched off from a previously mentioned idea of "history time". There was an issue brought up about it during the meeting, and my idea just stemmed from such.
That's just me though.
Scratching G off my Christmas List,

Var Medici-Giovanni

I would gladly send over some servants to help with this cleanup, but please forgive me if I do not attend personally.

Everyone~

As to the community Arena clean up, I would be perfectly willing to show up and help clean the Arena. I'm not afraid to get dirty, especially not when it could turn into a great bonding experience for the entire community.

Keeping the Arena clean wasn't exactly the priority in this activity, if I remember the meeting correctly. It was a way to get everyone together to do something for the greater good of the entire Community. Not to be rude, but sending servants to do the work would only work against the true purpose of the Cleaning Night.
