Harken all for the muse has made her sirens call heard to all the land. I come to you a poor man with nothing but the records I keep as my wealth in life. I will now share my wealth with all that would hear and learn. I ask nothing more than a quiet moment of self reflection when I have finished. To some, the names and deeds I am about to relate have no meaning, to others they are the
cornerstone of their lives blood, the heartbeat of their passions. Some may not comprehend the words I have painstakingly inked upon this aged paper, others may weep openly. It is not for me to comment on peoples reactions, it is only my duty to record and repeat history as it has happened.
The story I shall relate to you today is that of the Nine original barons of the Duel of Swords and the greatest tournament of warlords in the known history of Rhydin. I hope the reading is pleasant to the eyes.
Some four years ago it was decided that the Duel of Swords would benefit in the addition of a rank between that of Overlord and Warlord, to create a sort of buffer between the masses and the one who was their superior. This was not done out of hubris for the overlord, nay, it was done to create an even greater atmosphere of challenge to the most challenging of sports.
It was decided that the mighty warlords of the time would battle for the right to wear one of nine finely crafted rings. The contest was to happen over a span of one night and the greatest of great would battle each other to be the forefathers and mothers of a new era in the deadly dance of blades.
The matches were held in four separate groupings, the lowest ranking of the warlords having to duel more often than those of more exalted rank. The matches were called by three who were legends themselves inside the ring. Gloin, the venerable dwarf, Glor and the lovely Mamusia.
The first round consisted of three matches, the winners of those matches becoming eligible to duel in the next round and possibly become barons. The losers of the first round were out of the tournament, but suffered no loss in warlords ranking. Here is how the combatants fared:
The first of the three matches was possibly the most heartfelt of all, it pitted Kempai versus Kohie. The teacher of house Darelir Fandral Kurgan the 35th ranked dueler and his Crysknife versus his one of his newest and most talented student Torquillian Aspendale, ranked 37th. The match was the longest and hardest fought of the first round, and in the end it was the young Torquillian coming out with the win by a score of 5-2 in 11 bloody rounds.
Hiether, the magnificent sword of Torquillian, possessed a legacy all it’s own, but that is another story.
The second of the three matches would give the spectators a glimpse of the tragedy that would happen not mere hours later, had we been more observant, mayhaps that tragedy could have been averted. Elijah Basia-Uhr ranked 36th among warlords, was to battle his long time friend Cullen Kildarby, known to all as the Necromancer Cryptkicker, ranked a mere 40th. It was no great secret to many that Cullen craved after the love of the fair Jonalyn Nenshen
and was put to great pains forced to see Elijah and she together. Added to the fact that Elijah was acting highly erratic and abusive lead the Cryptkicker to be forced to split his loyalties between a friend he had and a love he could never be with. Elijah, dueling with his Gem encrusted Welsh highlanders sword, battled Cullen Kildarby with the two, three foot long, tendon covered bones he had popped from his own wrists. After 8 hard-fought rounds,
true love was not to win the day as the Welsh highlander crushed the bone man by a score of 5-2.

The third match of the first round was against to equally skilled and learned duelers. Feadur Feamegil the 34th ranked warlord and his ebon dark sword against Roustam and his lightning quick scimitar ranked 41st. Although overshadowed by the match-up of the first duel and the controversy between the duelers of the second, this match proved to be one of the closet of the
night, with Feadur edging out his wily apponent by a score of 5-4 in 9 rounds.
Gloin wasted no time in calling the combatants for the second round of three, noting to the community that the winners of these matches would be the first three barons of the duel of swords. The results of this round were no less exciting than the first:
The duel between the 4rth ranked Midnight Blue and John Gaunt, known to all as GrimJack, was swift and furious, with the beautiful Midnight Blue falling to the quiet Gaunt by the score of 5-2 in 7 rounds. Blue was very gracious in her loss and so the 33rd ranked warlord became the first baron, he claimed the 9th ring as his own.
The second ring was hotly contested for by two old friends in the personages of Ulath Fici, the Dark Axe ranked 9th among all, and Fantasy RC, known to his friends as simply “RC”, ranked at 28th. It was ax against radiant blade as the two closed the match out with yet another score of 5-2, with Ulath Fici being victorious in 9 rounds. All hailed the second baron. Ulath chose to have the 7th ring adorn his finger.
The third ring was between the #1 ranked warlord of the day, Lord Valmion, ruler of castle Questrion, and the already tired but willing Aspendale. Valmion’s Sword of Imperators was no match for Torquillian and Hiethur and although none would argue Valmions superior ability and knowledge of swordplay, it was the young Darelir who took the match and became the third baron. Many an eye was agog and many a jaw lay slack as the elf handed the best of
warlords a shutout loss in a mere 8 rounds, the 6th baronial ring was his.
Once again the combatants for the third round were called forth to do battle for the next three rings:

The fourth round gave the people a taste of how skilled and talented the women of the Duel of Swords had become. Each match consisted of a highly ranked woman and save for a slight slip by one, they all almost took the remaining rings for their own.
The first of the last was the 18th ranked Queen Luthien, elf queen and wielder of Golindal against Alkron GoldenSword, the 21st ranked warlord of the day. In a 12 round heartbreaker for Luthien, Alkron Goldensword edged her out in a show of skill by a score on 5.5-4. Alkron became yet another baron and his apponent the Queen was his loudest supporter. From that moment, Alkron Goldensword was the holder of the 1rst baronial ring.
The second duel of the last round was a hotly contested match between the preeminent warrior-mage of that or any day, Xenograg thu-Darelir, wearer of the ever-present Ostego cloak and wielder of the mighty Ostego blade. His apponent was the mysterious angel Halo, the 30th ranked warlady. In a surprising, some think Omnipotently aided display of skill, the beautific angelic warrior took the last of the remaining two rings as her own by defeating the
former Overlord Xenograg by a score of 5-1 in 7 rounds. The 4rth ring now belonged to the mightiest of all angels to grace the Duel of Swords.
The last duel was be between best of friends and mutual supporters, a few would dare say lovers, out of earshot of the warriors of course. The Dark Elf Feadur Feamegil was forced to duel the greatest and most skilled woman in the history of the Duel of Swords, the lovely, the deadly, the opitome of womanhood although she hated the word, Siera Redwin, the second ranked warlady. Although as close as any two can get, neither warrior asked for quarter
and none was given. After grueling rounds, the final baron was decided, or shall we say baroness. Siera Redwin became the last of the winners of the greatest tournament in our sports history by defeating Feadur by a score of 5-3. Being the last match to finish, Siera happily donned the 2nd ring and made it her own.
When all had received their rings they were asked to declare their loyalties to the present Overlord, the vocally challenged MadMadMax. Here is how history recorded their pledges.
Ulath Fici: Claimed he could never be loyal to a Madman and was the first renegade in baronial history.
Siera Redwin: Asked the Overlord for time to decide and the Overlord calmly replied with “Shuah, whut th’ hell.”
Elijah Basia-Uhr: Became the first Loyal baron in history by accepting Max as his lord.
Grandel Zephyrus: Stood and loudly proclaimed his loyalties to all.
Kalamere Ar’Din: Was forced to leave the event for personal reasons and his stance was not recorded, since the Overlord declined the right to choose for him.
Jack Gaunt: Claimed he could not be loyal to a man under so much controversy and went renegade.
Halo: The angel was livid when asked and adamantly shouted her renegade status. She could never be loyal to a man who kidnapped children. This involved Max stealing Valmion’s child and holding him as surety during their Overlords match.
Torquillian Aspendal: Stood and claimed his loyalty to the crown.
Alkron Goldensword: A longtime friend of the Overlord, was the last to be questioned as to his loyalty, he stood with the overlord.
* Tragedy struck while the callers held a series of matches to determine who would take over the top four warlords spots. During a heated argument, Michael Jones did strike the head from Elijah Basia-Uhr and kill the newly crowned baron. It is remarkable to note that the Welshman’s spirit and will was so strong that he continued to command hold of his ring, even after death.
After the losers bracket of matches, Amaltea and Xeno were to face off and Valmion and Midnight Blue were to meet to decide the top four spots. Showing the true face of a gentleman, Valmion conceded the match to Midnight before it started and she claimed the 3rd rank of warlord while he happily took 4rth. Not wanting to duel each other for obvious reasons, the husband and wife thu-Darelir’s decided the match by chance. Xenograg won and became the
first ranked warlord, while his wife, Amaltea, took the mantle of second.
So ends the tale of the 9 barons. Look to your past and learn from it, the Gods be willing, you may be able to emulate the boundless skill and honor of the great warriors that preceded you.

Thanks for the tale of History, however some clarifications need to be made.
First, myself and my Swordbrother, Aspendale, were not apart of the Darelir dojo/house, our Kempai, Shadowrun was a apart of that family. The Bishop had his own "family" of students, known as Commandos of the Bishop's Chapel. Myself, Aspendale, Rantom, Branioc, and Simini were Swordbrothers and Swordsisters of the Bishop's Chapel, not of Darelir, though a strong union was between both groups. I was Commando Core.
Second, about my duel with Amaltea and whatever supposed controversary I am sick of hearing about because it never happened. Amaltea said I used 5 Fancys in that duel, I never sent 5 Fancys and I never saw 5 Fancys called by the official. And in the round she thought I used a 5th Fancy on anyway she scored on me, she highcut over my plain circular parry. Then next round I slashed her Fancy Circular Parry to win the match. I slashed because a
common Darelir trait of dueling is too do the reverse parry of the cut you just did. I.E. Amaltea did a circular parry after she highcut. Why else would I slash during a tournement or a challenge match unless I was so sure it would work? I won my ring fair and square regardless of what might have thought happen.
Third, the gem encrusted blade I wielded is only slightly accurate. It was an emerald blade, made of crushed emeralds and a rare metal found in the hills of Wales, Oriculum. Oriculum is a powerful enchantable ore that can be shaped and majiked, and the crushed emeralds were poured into the Oriculum mixture when the blade was fashioned and infused with the spirit of the son I lost before becoming Immortal.
Fourth, I did not die by Michael Jones's hand the night of the Orginal Nine Barons tourney, it was after my first challenge match against MidnytBlue. I was not on the way to the "darkside" then, it was shortly there after it began to happen because of MidNytBlue's challenge. the night of that tourney I was in a great mood and feeling great and happy about everything. I was involved with Jonalyn then, and though I had to duel Cryptkickr, I had no
animosity towards him, he was my friend.
I believe Grimjk or LordZephyr was the one to actually lose their ring first, but I was challenged first. I was challenged the first standings that came out stating I was a Baron, by MidnytBlue. She was my friend then and she ruined my involvement in one of the greatest moments of DoS history and my own personal career. She claimed she challenged me because we were friends and all that and thought I would favor it, though she never asked me
about it before she made the challenge. Just as soon as the Standings came out she whipped a challenge up to me.
I lost my first defense, and quickly strove to regain what I had lost. I got my peer wins and challenged MidNytBlue back as soon as I could. This is where things got ugly and began my "path to the darkside". When I challenged MidNytBlue to try and regain the baron ring I lost, she reitred a week later. She retired claiming health reasons, though every weekend through the whole ordeal she was dueling, and even after she retired the ring. She
retired the ring because she was pressured by a certain group of folks that did not want to see me regain any sort of "power" again. She admitted that much to be a few weeks after.
No Baron's Council decision was made or a vote taken, it was arbitrary decided by RDI staff that I lose out on my challenge, my peer wins, and the right to challenge for the rest of the cycle even, though MidNytBlue retired the ring when I challenged her. Needles to say I was pissed off and annoyed at the "cliqs" begining to form within the Swords community then. It was during this challenge time I did lose my head to Michael Jones though.
I just wanted to clarify some points of my own personal involvement in this Tourney. I do thank DoS Scribe for his account and for the effort of sharing with the community the events of that Tourney.

Something I had always wanted to know about. The time in the sport which was revered as the greatest and most passionate time for Warlords and the community in general. I feel better now that I know what actually went on. Thank you Scribe and thank you E for your well written insights to the past. I shall keep my own copies and revere them with great pride.

Forgive my scribe assistants, they tend to make a few mistakes when forced to copy over 120 pages of my hurried script, for that is how many were needed to cover that single night.
~Torquillian Aspendale and Elajia Basia-Uhr were members of the Bishops chapel, not house Darelir, although they were closely related.
~The blade of the Welsh Highlanded was made of Oriculum and crushed emeralds.
~ I have reveived it from good authority that the Welsh Highlanded did not die that night but at a later date.
I would be more than happy to make any changes or corrections needed. I just ask that you send a messenger to my place of business and allow me to do the work myself. I spent many, many an hour on this story and would prefere that it's meaning not be lost to the public.

The meaning of your efforts is not lost on the public. In fact they are appreciated wholly by the public. However, this is a public forum in which we share our knowledge, tales, opinions, and views. I would rather you didn't present history if you desire it to only be one sided, or presented one-sided based on your interpetation, rather then allowing others to publically recount their tales of events in Swords history.
If I am going to be mentioned by someone else about my involvement in the history of the Swords Community on a public board, I have every right to state my opinion on the matters presented. I didn't offer my relation of the other duelers involved in that tourney, except how they were involved with me in that tourney. I just wanted to clarify some points about me from my own mouth so that people don't get the wrong story.
Sure, I might an arse, a schmuck, or not very well liked for a variety of reasons, but lets get the facts straight about what things happened when to whom. As the only active dueler of the Original Nine Barons of DoS left in the Standings come this new cycle, I think I am allowed to recount my first hand witness to these events.

I would just like to thank the DoS scribe for this history on the rings. Though I was around, and was orignally enlisted to compete in the tournament, I was called away for several years, and had never truly understood what had happened. This was a very generous act, again, thank you.

Let it also be known that Grimjack was the first to feel the loss of a ring, as I was unable to attend the tournament, I felt it necessary to test one of those that won. History will recall that not long after the tournament I was the first to claim one of the origional nine.

I am offering apologies to DoS Scribe. While I strongly disagree and think some journals of that could have been altered, it is possible I was killed the night the Tourney of the Nine by Michael Jones. I believe it happened at another event close to that event, and perhaps someone's journals might be run together as one for different close events. However, if I am wrong, which I don't believe I am, I should know

I would like to take this opportunity to clarify the distinction between my family and my school. The error you made is a common one and nothing to be criticized for.
Clan-House Darelir is my family proper. Only my wife, Amaltea, and my adopted House Champion, then Siera of Cadonia and now Alais of Nitesong, are Darelir. Dojo Darelir was my dueling school, a completely separate entity. It was my privilege to instruct so many excellent warriors in the nuances of the Duel of Swords sport. They repaid me with loyalty, honor, and glory. The success of the Dojo was greater than I ever dreamed. I thank them.
