Dueling Schedule
From: rdigolden@aol.com (RDI Golden)
Date: 01 Jun 1999 00:05:50 EDT
Patrons,
Due to the decreasing number of available workers, I have recently decided that it would be best to trim the number of days the Duel of Swords is open. I feel that by concentrating the callers and queuekeepers into a fewer number of days, the service we can provide will improve. More callers and queuekeepers on one night will lessen the strain put on fewer staff. Rather than have a handful of staff members working three or more shifts per week,
by cutting the number of days we are open the risk of burnout is decreased.
Effective this week, the Duel of Swords will no longer hold official duels on Wednesdays and Sundays. A new tentative schedule has been established, but is yet to be finalized. As it stands right now, the dueling schedule will be as follows:
Thursday: 8 - 3
Friday: 8 - 2
Saturday: 8 - 2
By tomorrow evening there should be a finalized schedule that you can all view, Wednesday at the latest. This is being done on a trial basis that will last a few weeks, somewhere from two to four. At the end of that time, the staff will evaluate how well we think things went. All patrons are invited to voice their opinion as well at the end of this trial period. It may be decided to reopen one of those two days and have fewer hours each day. In
either case, it is obvious that the current schedule needs to be decreased to accomodate a smaller staff.
As soon as more staff members are made available, we will look into expanding our hours once more. Hopefully that will not be too far down the road.
My thanks in advance for your patience in this time of change. And my appreciation to the callers and queuekeepers who have sacrificed several days each week to work in the arena and annex.
As always, any questions or comments can be directed my way. You know where to find me.

Golden,
An excellent and wise decision for the unfortunate circumstances and realities.
The duels used to be in a smaller public venue and open only two nights for less time. It's the quality of service and the time spent in the duels rather then the quanity.

Good enough, more callers on less shift whould equal the same turnout.
Not bad kid, not bad.

::Seeing the post, he frowns a bit, then nods, a bit amazed. He whipsers:: Wow, I didn't have to suggest it myself...::crumples a note that was in his pocket. Then writes his own reply on an already used piece of paper. After finishing his note, he steps back, and exits the general vicinity with slow and purposeful steps:: the note reads:
Does this mean that RDI's "cannot" randomly visit the Annex or Arena and call a few when it's not scheduled? Assuming that they have already completed their shift of course. Just a minor detail that was left out.

Folks,
Another update about the change in the schedule. The new schedule will be almost exactly as written about yesterday, only Saturday will be shortened by one hour. So things should look like this:
Thursday: 8 - 3
Friday: 8 - 2
Saturday: 8 - 1
The reason for the one hour shortening on Saturday is because I did not wish to have one caller working alone for two hours, as things may have worked out that way. I realize Saturday is a prime day for dueling and likely to be the busiest, so the effort will be made to place more callers on that night as soon as possible.
The official schedule will be altered tomorrow evening to reflect the changes, and the new schedule will commence this Thursday night.
Speak up if there are any questions or comments.

It was probably *left out* because everyone here knows that the RDI have never been allowed to *just randomly show up and call a few*. Not officially anyway. Official duels are ONLY during official hours in official rooms. Obvious exceptions to that of course are challenges and tournaments. Though they must take place in official rooms, they may take place outside of official dueling hours.

Golden, and everyone else concerned,
Perhaps this is a good idea, to shorten the days of dueling, but I for one do not see it as such. With a less amount of days to duel, duelers will be all coming in on the same day, making the q longer and the RDI's working even harder. Therefore, it may be more hectic then with the 5 days of dueling.
Just something to think about here.

The officials have never been allowed to call matches at times that are not sanctioned by the DoS Management. It probably will not change now.

Perhaps the callers could take advantage of both the annex and the arena, with the new schedule. I expect to find many callers come each of the three nights, perhaps six at least?..resembling something like the opening round of a warlord tourney.

Khrys,
Obviously not everyone was fully aware of this. Just had to point that out.
Sidartha,
I found your answer to my question to have been worded better and more appreciated.
Thanks and peace be with you both

After quick examination of the updated schedule, he comes to the conclusion that his expectations were exaggerated.
