The afternoon was bright and sunny, Huma was in his tavern watching the patrons do their regular routines. He had given the daytime tender the afternoon off and was taking care of things himself. Between running the grill and drawing drinks kept him and the two serving girls he had recently hired, very busy. The afternoon group had come in for the special of the day, "Huma's suprise luncheon loaf" suprsingly, not a
single patron had complained about stomach pains, so Huma guessed the suprise meat to still be good. Although he did overhear one patron mention that his sandwhich, the meat looked like a woman had taken a bite from it.
Huma had just finished serving another round of sandwhiches to a table near the dueling ring when a shop keeper from down by Aja's shipyards. Huma couldn't remember the man's name even though he had talked to him freaquently when he and Aja were married. The man walked up to the bar and ordered a bourbon on ice, which Huma promptly set before the man, along with a complimentary sandwhich special. The man took a bite from the sandwhich, Huma
thought he noticed a slight wince from the man, but wasn't quite sure. The man then took a long drink from the glass Huma had set in front of him. after wiping his mouth with a napkin, he looked to Huma and asked, "So how be's ye Hooma?"
Huma bit back a mutter as the man misprouned his name and shrugged a reply, "Same as ever I s'pose."
The man nodded and replied, "Could be worse I'sa reckon." The man took another sip from the glass and looked back at Huma to continue to conversation. "Right fine young lad ye's got...right fine indeed, the lady seems taken good cares of tha boy. Her an that youn man she's got at the manner."
Huma's eyes shot wide open, and the man figured Huma didn't know about the young man Aja had staying at her home. Huma spoke slowly, "Young man?" His words obvious full of anger, despite his best efforts to retain his composure.
The man winced inwardly. he knew he couldn't play this off, and for his own good, he knew he ahd to answer any questions that he could. He replied, "Aye's Hooma, I's been seein tha' lad out in tha yards playins ball with'n your young'n."
Huma nodded slowly and scooped his cattle prod from under the bar and called one of his serving girls to the bar. "Lidya, watch the tavern....I'll be back." was all he said as he shoved the prod into his pocket and walked briskly out the door.
The man and Lidya heard Huma mount dogfood and they heard him spur the horse hard, for they seen him ride by at full speed. The man sighed as he knew the young man at the manor with Aja was now in grave danger.
Lidya shook her head, she seen that Huma looked mad, but had no idea. She looked to the man and took the half eaten sandwhich from him with a smile and added, "You don't have to humor him, I'll get you a fresh sandwhich. what'll ya have?"
The man took a drink and replied, "Bourbon and a ham and cheese cutie."
She smiled as she headed to the kitchen, dumping the salami sandwhich into the garbage with the rest of them Huma hadn't seen her dump.
Looking to kill...

Aja was sitting at her desk, clearing off the days receipts and filing a few dozen orders when the door flung open to her office and Matthew, her new houseboy, came in.
"Your ex-husband is a nutcase!" he declared and fell into the chair near the door.
"What?" Aja blinked at the young man confused. Matt had only been with them a few weeks, since Maria went to her sisters to care for an ill family member. Matt was not known to become frazzled easily, which with Trevor being at the age of bringing home strange critters, it was a good thing.
"He came by the house today and chased me with a cattleprod!"
"He did what?!" Aja stood, then sat back down not quite sure what to do. "where was Trevor?"
"Trevor had just gone in the house to get a ball. I was going to play catch with him. That's when Huma came riding up like his tail was on fire, and started chasing me with that prod."
Aja stood back up and looked out the window at Trevor playing tag with Rico and Alon. She thought for a few moments, and looked at Matthew.
"I'll go speak to him."
"What do you want me to do?"
"You and Rico keep an eye on Trevor. He's gonna probably want to come with me if he figures out I'm going to the tavern to see his daddy. So just let him, but you don't need to come in the tavern if he does."
"Wasn't planning on it." Matthew gave a small grin and sighed.
Aja walked out into the yard, and started for the Inn, wondering exactly what that man thought he was doing now.
"Mama, where you going?" Trevor hung on to Rico's hand and started after his mom.
"I'm going to talk to your dad for a moment."
"Can I come with you?"
"You'd have to stay outside while I speak to your dad."
"Are you going to talk grown up stuff again?" he kicked at a rock, sending it skittering across the street. Aja looked down at her son with a small smile, trying to keep her tone light.
"Something like that." she smoothed down Trevor's hair and kept walking.
"You aren't going to fight with daddy are you?"
"No. I am not planning on fighting with your Dad." 'it's just going to turn into a battle royal." she added her own afterthought to the answer.
"Good, cause Daddy won't come home if you keep fighting with him." Trevor leaned against his mom as they walked and Aja just looked down at her son, interested by his answer.
They arrived at the tavern, and Aja looked at Rico and Matt.
"Keep him out here for a bit, will you?"
"Sure thing boss." Rico grinned, knowing all too well, some things were going to be said that Aja didn't want Trevor to hear.
Aja walked into the tavern, letting the door slam behind her. Seeing Huma behind the bar,
"Just what in the hell do you think your doing scaring my help?"
