He was losing his mind...he could feel it. Since his murder and subsequent resurrection everything had changed. Everything shifted in a pattern of blacks and dull grays, and he couldn't focus. More, he could sense the life patterns of those around him, hear the pounding of their hearts in their chests like thunder in his mind, feel the roar of the blood through their veins. Why exactly had the War God resurrected him? He
wasn't sure, but he was driven by the need to find the Slayer and destroy him, even as he himself was being slowly destroyed.
White hot pain shot through him, and he doubled up and fell, gasping for breath. Below him, the Arena carried on, and Zen Black awaited a duel, but he felt as if he would surely die now. Prayed for it. He had to find help. He staggered to his feet and went off in search of Eros, fighting the agony that blazed through him.

Shadow sat at the small wooden desk in his room at the Inn, poring over the notes he had made over the last few months since witnessing Dem's murder. He had found that he could not recall clearly either the facial features or even the tone of voice of the Slayer Argent, most likely a side effect of the being's evil power. Shadow, in his younger adventuring days, had experienced *that* sort of
magic several times. No matter; a being, no matter how powerful, was much more than a face and a voice, and even the most potent creatures left signature traces of themselves. The Elven Ranger, such as he was, not only could detect the physical marks left by a creature's passage; especially with these godlings and demipowers, he was a Master tracker without peer.
He assumed that Argent's traces were similar to those of the other Slayer's...Mage, or somesuch, of the same order of being if on a lesser scale. He had searched through the many vast libraries of Rhydin for information on the creatures, finding that they were so thoroughly filled with evil that the power of the Gods was behind them. Daunting, but not the first time Shadow had had to deal with a god before.
He leaned back in his chair, stretching for a moment and wracking his brain for where to begin. Argent could be anywhere on Rhydin right now; for that matter he could be anywhere in the multiverse, but Shadow figured the godling's interests were at stake on this plane, so it was safe to guess that it still resided here. Smiling then, the Ranger recalled an old hermit he had met upon first arriving on Rhydin, one Basquette Le Maude. Old Le Maude
knew just about everything that had transpired on the planet, though he was too drunk most of the time to act on any of his knowledge. After mouthing a prayer to his Patron, Shadow organized his notes and made ready for the journey to the northeast end of Rhydin Towne, where Le Maude kept his hut. "Gods," Shadow muttered under his breath. "I hope Marzan can keep Dem from going off the edge before I find this Slayer."
