Those who hold title have a very simple set of duties... to take part in Council when a dispute or discrepancy arises, thereby interperting the rules of the sport.
Interpreting the rules of a sport for those who compete in it is a form of leadership.
While I agree that there are "leaders" in this community who hold no title, by definition, those that do have some leadership duties. How they respond to that responsibility is the answer to Var's question: "What makes a "good" Baron?"

Precisely. Leadership in the sport. Not the community. As I said, these are two separate entities, and while they do overlap they do not overlap perfectly enough to be called interchangeable. Leadership in the sport is a Baron's duty. Leadership in the community involves a lot more than holding a title or not holding one.

In the end...
To be a Baron takes defeating the previous title holder, or winning the prize in a Warlord's Tourney... nothing more.
To be a Leader takes holding ideals so firmly that others notice and follow your ideals.
To be a good Baron requires being a Leader, and requires being a good dueler.
To be a good Leader requires realizing that others follow your ideals and guiding those people upon the path you've chosen.
Of course, I am only using the word good with the connotation of "better than average", rather than the connotation of "not evil."

To sort of Answer a question put to me,
Although my actions may coincide with those of people generally thought of as "honorable" and "leaders", the reasons for my actions are usually from a different angle. It just so happens that most of the time, what I feel is considered by most to be what is "right".
I have to plead the 5th when it comes to further explaining because not many people would truly like to hear why I do what I do and what I might do in the same situation if it was a different person involved.
I haven't decided to totally hang myself politically yet.

I applaud thee, For Truth and Honor do go hand in hand. You cant have one without the other as for Truth one must have fidelity to an original or to a standard. as for Honor one must have Respect and dignity for the standards with in which case one can not achieve honor without truth. With out respect, dignity to oneself and to the forum of DOS what can you claim? If a person is untruthful in the game it bends the meaning of dos "Skill &
Honor!" The meaning of honor or of the whole game juts flows down the drain. Honor is achived by truth and to achive both you need to Merit respect and a keen sense of ethical conduct.
