The useless move.

I have made my opinion on this clear often, but I feel the need to voice it on the boards for all to see.
Disengaging is useless as a move under the current scoring.
I challenge anyone to offer up one situation where the Disengage is preferable to any other move, fancy or otherwise.
My objective is this is to see the scoring for the Disengage altered to make it a useful maneuver in the ring.
Suggestions have been to give it and ADV against the stop hit and/or the duck.
With concern for all dueling and duelers,

Just because the disengage only scores against one move, it certainly doesn't mean it's useless. The Dis is more of a psychological move to me. Use it in the first round, like good old Procy used to do, and you have all maneuvers available to you and you're opponent one less. I know an argument can be made against this, but I still like the pros of a first round dis more than the cons. Another use is when you absolutely know your opponent will thrust. Believe me, nothing makes you feel worse and puts you in a worse spot than thrusting when your opponent disses. The moves each round aren't always used to score points. Sometimes, it's just to get your opponent thinking and doubting. A good use of the disengage does exactly that.~Rix

Maybe the DIS is there because it is simply used as icing on the cake, to make the matrix an even 10 moves.
If you have to change it, why not make it a JUMP! That would be pretty phat.

Eh..I remember once, my opponent tripped..and I thrusted what was a disengage. And whats a "cut"? And how do mathematics figure into this...A cut can be all sorts of things.

::tacks up a simple reply:: Why not always use da sidestep and stophit? What possible advantage does Disengage leave ya? So ya disengage and have 10 choices, dat's not such a huge bonus since one of da 10 is still da useless disengage.

I personally would rather SS-SH-SS, dan Dis-SH-SS. ::shrugs::

Now if ya wanna talk about intimidation factor and insult..dat's a whole new story, but please don't ramble on about percentages and increased statistical advantage, because dere simply is none.

I find it strange reading this since I have won more matches using the disengage than the author of this missive has wins all told. It is not the move but the person performing the move that makes it viable or useless.
The Disengage is a move done by either the desperate, foolish or skilled. It takes a truly skilled warrior to know more often than not when the apponent will thrust and use the disengage correctly.
Of course I'm sure that if the author of this missive were to successfully use the Disengage more often he would not post such a note.

To all those who responded:
I made a challenge for anyone to show some worth to disengaging in the ring. As I posted this, I was looking at the issue from a scoring perspective, and while many responses hailed the mental advantage a disengage brings, I retort that as each dueler is unique in their thought and dueling philosophy, it cannot be claimed that a disengage will bring the upper hand as a rule, any more than any successful move in a round.
I do concede that while successfully disengaging leaves you more open with all 10 scorable maneuvers in the next round does give the manuever a notable advantage, and I thank those who took my challenge and thus expanded my knowledge of the rings, as well as others who will read these postings.
However, two things have brought me dissapointment after reading these replies.
We are all entitled to our opinions, and to our right to post them here. Adeena, boasting of your wins in comparison to mine, and thereby questioning my right to express my opinion is unwarranted and reeks of eliteness to me.
And also, as I have observed, both in what has been posted on this subject, as well as what was been said in response to it, that the insults towards Zaradda were not neccessary, at least not on this subject.
Buffy, you accused Rad of immaturity and insultory behavior, but your posting not only was off-topic, but far more immature and insulting that anything Rad has written on this subject. I do not like chiding a friend such as you, but I feel it neccessary.
Thus in conclusion, I thank all those who imparted their wisdom on this subject to the benefit of all.
