I think a grand idea would be to let the Warlord's duel the Baron's who don't want to be in the Baron's Tourney for Overlord for their "slot". Like let me duel Jeff, and if I beat him, I get his slot in the Baron's Tourney for Overlord. If I lose then I don't get too. Or someone else could duel Var for his slot and so forth. Just a thought.

First just let me say I am disapointed in seeing Aggy walk away. His tenure as Overlord would have been a most intresting one.
Ecore, I don't think your idea is a good one. Who gets to chose what Warlord faces which Baron. What your suggesting would cause even more problems and arguments.
Var,
We've had our arguments, and our disagreements. Let me just say now that as of late, you have earned my highest respect. It may not mean much to you or to anyone else, but you have it.
Jeff,
You've always had my respect. It saddens me a bit though that you are not attempting to capture the crown but I understand your position and respect it.
Let me also say to everyone else. It has been an honor serving as a Baron. While I may not show up in the arena much lately (mun's GF had a baby) I have been as active as I can be.
Now I don't know if I would consider myself ready for the crown. I am going to enter myself for it though. I believe the only way you can learn something is through trial and error. I learned how to rule my knigdom that way, I leanred how to be a Baron that way and if I am lucky enough to win the crown, will learn through trial and error.

If Ecore's idea was to work, it would have to do with the warlord's standings. Anyways, the barons earned their rank and the right for that tourney since Aggy retired. No warlord should have a shot at it, period.

I can't neccessarily agree with that, Drey. If only Barons are worthy of a shot at the crown, then why is it offered as a prize in the Warlord's Tournament each cycle, taking precedence over all other Challenges *with the possible exception* of a Loyal Baron being turned Renegade by the Overlord and thus having an automatic shot, like we saw with the Eros DeBurgo-Adonai Uziel-Eric Siadek situation a while back, but let's not get into that again
*please*. Also, why is a Warlord afforded the right to challenge for the Crown at any time, provided they have 15 peer wins? I know this is a different situation, and yes, I believe that Barons should be given first say in this, but if they have an open slot-as far as I know, they have two-then why not let, say, the top ranked Warlord in to fill the slot? Remember, a lot of the more experienced and accomplished Warlords, the ones who common sense
dictates would probably be near the top of the Rankings, have held at least one Barony in their career.

The warlord's tournament is offered once a cycle... This is a once in a year incident and more. There's a big difference between three months and 365 days, Cas.
Barons are barons. They are those warlords that gained the right to challenge with ten peer wins and defeated the baron to become one themself. They are the superior warlords, in my mind, more deserving of the rank.

It was just a thought, if some Barons didn't want to be in the tourney if they could still have their slot used. I thought it might be interesting thing to develop. Maybe if whatever Warlord in the name of the Baron won and became Overlord, the new Overlord would have to owe the Baron the right to Interceede for him or ask the Overlord to Interceede for them for any challenge in the future. Thought it might
have possibilities.

The scrolls make scratchy sounds as they rub against each other while Simini reviews her post. The volume of mail has, as expected, increased quite a bit, a fact she finds rather amusing.
Reading one of the first notes, she scowls and rolls her eyes, then tosses the parchment upon the desktop. Next.
Next, she is nodding as she reads words she could have written herself. After setting that message aside, she leaned over and reached for a quill, ready to pen her own response to the situation.
Then she shook her head and leaned back once again, deciding instead to read through the rest of her post before writing anything.
What she reads gives her pause, and her quill is left untouched... for now.

Cas,
With all due respect to yourself and the newer barons, this is a situation where many of the barons aren't really "worthy" to be overlord. I don't want to get in the the whole worth argument, but the fact that many of them are basically new to the ranks of baronhood and have no real experience in a leadership role, leads me to believe that most of the remaining ten or so who haven't stated that they won't be in the tourney, aren't worth of the
title.
That's my opinion but with the expansion of the baronial ring to 13, you have a heck of alot of second string duelers as barons. Second string meaning that they either were lucky in their challenge, won their ring be questionable means or defeated another second string baron to get it. I cannot comment on the character of the barons, merely their ability to be overlord. I believe I have the experience to see who will and will not be a benefit to
the community as overlord. Sadly, most of the remaining ten will make poor overlords.
To rememdy this I propose a grand tournament be held, barons and warlords alike. It would be a great chance for the community to get together and really put forth an effort to cheer on prospective hopefuls. As to the barons having a certain right, that is true by the writing of the rules only. If the barons would be angered and feel put out by a grand tourney, I'd offer that they should all have a bye in the first round to give them the advantage
the "deserve".
If a baron should win, then he is overlord, if the second place winner is a warlord, then he should replace the newly crown overlord as baron. If a baron should place 1st and second then a warlords tournament should be held according to the proper timeframe to replace the vacant barons spot.
That's the extent of my thought on the subject for now.

Billy Ray,
Regardless of how a Baron's ring becomes vacant it usually remains so as an additional prize for a quarterly Warlord's Tourney as I am sure you well know. However, your idea has some interesting merit. To further your idea, I would say something more.
I always wondered why when they introduced the 4 new baron rings they didn't basically recycle and reset the rings with a grand tourney for thirteen titles. I think it would be interesting to have a grand tourney of Warlords and Barons to recycle all the rings in reflection of the new titles. Allow them all to start again from the same point as I thought should have been done when the new four were introduced. The top 14 winners could pick which
prize they wanted, with no Intercession Free duel availible as a prize. Like if Jeff won the top spot he could choose to become Overlord, or remain as holder of the 8th?, or switch to a different ring.
Or maybe just stick with Billy Ray's idea. Or let maybe Warlord's who are in the blue bracket of the Warlord's Rankings, or with a certain percentage above and in the blue racket enter the tourney against Barons. If their are 8 barons in the tourney, then let 8 of the highest ranked Warlord's of the blue bracket interested in being in the tourny pair up against the barons initially. Lot's of possiblities.
However, the rules do clearly state in an event of the Overlord retiring there would be a Baron's Tourney with the vacanct ring becoming availible in the next Warlord's Tourney.

I agree mostly with Billy on this one. A grand tournament for Overlord sounds pretty good. But the title of OL isn't merely one that is defined by sword skill.
We all know there are plenty of politics involved with ranks. We look for a strong, confident figure to be our Overlord. Now, Agrenish proved his skill by defeating Unagi for the crown. But, just because he's better with a sword doesn't mean that he's fit for the title. Most of you have stated your opinion on that. Yet we do only have one way of chosing an Overlord, and that is by having a tournament. And it should be one that includes most of
the higher ranked duelers.
Not to be prejudice, but the higher ranks tend to be more involved in the community and make up a majority of the leaders. There are plenty, well...some Warlords that would make a better OL than some current Barons. Leadership is a big role. All of the current Baron's have that role, but only some of them actually put it to use. We all know that. There are a few Barons that would make a good Overlord. But if we include Warlords in this
tournament, we open a field to even more duelists that are involved and care about the DoS. We bring in a greater number of possible leaders to take the crown as Overlord. As Billy said, it would bring the community together and put effort into finding a fit OL.
Just my thoughts. Sorry if they offend you.

I have one comment to make, concerning Warlords being involved in the Tourney to become Overlord...
If you are a Warlord who believes that some Baron or other lacks the talent, skill or experience to be a Baron... challenge them.
If a Baron you believe should not be Overlord wins the Baron's Tourney... challenge them.
That's why we have challenge rules in the first place, isn't it?
