Criticism I can take. But to imply that I would be so shallow as to challenge someone who had a couple bad nights in a tourney, for the easiest chance at holding a ring? It disgusts me.

It wasn't because of the bad nights of dueling he had, it's because I have the peer wins, and the rules say I can challenge for no good reason, that's why. Silly people.

Nah, he already told me the reason, right, Del? It's very good too... He doesn't wish it placed upon these boards and I understand why. You all are just reaching for reasons that haven't even been shown. That... is quite silly.
Assumptions never get you anywhere.
I wish you luck, Deluthan and I hope you win. Duel well.
Cheers - I love that one, Valmion. Cheers,

What is wrong in challenging simply because you want to?
Oh, that's right. He's not your friend.
Roland
PS: Only a moron would consider Lucian the weakest link on the council. Ask him yourself.

Good Sir Sal Roa.
There is everything wrong with challenging just because you want to. It demeans and degrades the whole purpose and point of the Challenge and of the Baron's Rings themselves. In this I find I am in agreement with Lady Starfare, as she has said such many times in the past.
Warlord Starke,
If one's reason to challenge is a good one, then one should not fear to place it upon the boards. Though I champion the right to keep one's reasons to one's self, I also feel that it is none the less important to post those reasons.
Baron Lucian,
As my blade cannot aid you in this challenge, I offer instead my best wishes.
Luck to thee in this, and in the future.
Lady Drake, aka the Gryphon.

Not true, Drake. The whole purpose of the challenge and the Baron's Rings in the first place are as titles of achievement within the sport of the Arena. One challenges for a title because one thinks one is good enough to win and to give the titleholder challenged another chance to show they are good enough to keep their title.
There is another reason for challenging, of course. One must also want the title, and want to defend it. While members of the community may often speak loftily, with some justification, of the duties of title holders, it all comes down to the sport. The sport is about fair competition. Challenges should be the purest expression of the sport.
That said, I hope Lucian wins. From what I have seen of Deluthan, he wouldn't be my first choice as a Baron. Maybe not my second either.

Jonalyn,
Far better to be shallow than to take every event that ever occurs so seriously that you can no longer tell the difference between the important and the minor. Reasons for challenges are not so important as the people challenging and the people defending.
I happen to want Lucian to win because of who is dueling, not because of why Deluthan challenged. Who Deluthan and Lucian are is more important to me than their excuses for their actions.

Honestly. You people get angered when someone's reasons of challenge don't measure up to some vendetta or to some sort of honorable standard.
Well, damn it to hell; the main reason I have ever wanted to go after the title of Baron was because I wanted it. The title, the prestige, the responsibilities, the respect.
That is why we enter Warlord Tournaments, is it not? And what is the prize? A Baron's Ring and challenge to the Overlord. No baronial challenge, no real conflict.
I have always dueled honorable and always will. Ajay can tell you, I challenged him to celebrate his two year anniversary for the sheer thrill of the challenge and I cannot a recall a single one of you to bring any faults with that to my knowing. Same with Galin. I wanted a ring and I wanted to represent my kingdom. So I went for the ring held by two members of New Mountainside and again added my reasoning for the thrill of the challenge. No one
minded then.
It's all about skill. I can see no harm in challenging someone because you want to. It provides that Baron a test to prove to the community that he is indeed Baron material. Should the Warlord win; then you conflict mongers will get what you want. A slew of challengers claiming the Warlord is an unfit Baron.
Which I think is great. The sport needs it to survive. The Baronial Rings need it to keep it's own prestige.
I hope you all get my meaning ... I'm not really up to arguing out any of these opinions, but if you really feel so strongly about my stance on any of this then feel free to look me up sometime.

I see fault with people's reasons of challenging sometimes. However, I would rather see people post their reasons, whatever they may be, instead of people unwilling to say their reasons for one reason or another. Being a baron is a very open subject, as the whole community looks at you. If you cannot admit why you want to be a baron specifically before the community, then what makes you think you can handle
being a baron?
Of course, this is just a minor argument in reference to what has been said. Regarding the challenge between Del and Luc, I cannot wait to see it. I respect both of them as people and I think it will be an excellent battle of skill.

I can understand your position, Var...but could you blame someone for not wanting to post their reasons? You've seen how these Challenges almost always end up, all feuding and bickering. I personally can understand why someone would rather not post their reasons for every Tom, Dick and Harry with a quill to decry it. I, personally, think it's better if people simply go to the person face-to-face if they want to know
why the person challenged.

Much ast Drakewyn, thee wouldst hae th' place become a ladies tea party. Tis anna warlord wi' th' guts ta challenge should hae th' guts ta make 'is reasons known. If tis they be fearful 'o comment, let 'em stay away from th' cork, stop their ears an' walk around blindfolded, th' or nae bring challenge atall.

Jonalyn~
And anyone with guts can be bold enough to discuss the matter face-to-face, rather than hiding behind a cork board. I am not saying that they should hide completely, but this being a blood sport is no excuse for the rude behavior spewed onto this piece of cork at every turn.

I will be honest, Sid, when I say yes, I can blame them. Being a baron is a very political position; people will look at everything you say and do and keep it to memory for life, especially those who want to bring you down. If you cannot handle that kind of pressure, then you shouldn't try to be a baron.
While I can understand one wanting to prevent bickering, I feel it does more harm than good. I would rather see the bickering, and know the truth, instead of seeing everyone putting on a false bravado and having a false sense of security.
And while it is understandable to think it's best if people ask you your reasons, remember, this is a large community. I certainly think it saves everyone's time if you post your reasons instead of expecting everyone to come to you.
Of course, that's just how I feel.
