Politics and Challenges

Greetings partons of the Duel of Swords,
I have a question for you all, one that I have not been able to answer, one that was kicked up by the upcoming challenge of one of our barons and warlord.
Why does it seem that whenever a warlord challenges a baron or overlord for their title, questions--and oft answers--arise that have to do with politics? Does no one wish to challenge merely to see if they have been successful in honing their skills to the finest of their abilities? Mayhaps this is merely a newcomers question, but it still plagues my mind.

I don't know if I have a place in answering this, I somehow feel so small, as if the great voices and weights of a past of honor, have been put on my shoulders.
But, to answer the question, I feel as now, everyone who held the 8th before me, has a small voice, and say, in what I do. I don't think or believe that if you challenge, simply to prove skill, you could truly........ Nevermind, I don't know anymore.

Challenges...
All I can say is be true to yourself. Do as you desire and what makes you feel good about your career, regardless of what others say. Some will favor your reasons, some will flame you for them, it really doesn't matter what the reasons are. What does matter is if you can win the match or not when it comes time. Those who find fault will try and take your prize from you, those who favor will congratulate.
To thy ownself be true and remember in this sport the blade rules the day despite whatever motivations of the heart and mind.

Durax,
In the past, people have challenged for the sake of proving their worthiness. Things got out of hand, however, when people say they challenge just to prove themselves. One example to show how much of an outcry there was, when once loyal Adonai Uziel challenged Dalamar Ar'Daumon to be overlord, to see if he could "best him".
Saying that you challenge to "test yourself" generally ended up in doubts, bad feelings, and/or hatred. Once people realized the bad feelings that can arise from it, they have opted against challenging for that reason.

Bad feelings generally arise from it because people want an excuse for bad feelings. I challenged AJay for reasons similar to that and he became one of my better friends and I still consider him such. Bad feelings generally arise because there is some motive for them. If people are not willing to feel them, they will not.

Like Var stated, if you challenge to simply "Test you skills" then people start to doubt that as being the true reason, they think your trying to hide something or some other reason and masking it with "proving your skills". Plus after 2 or 3 times of that..if you don't win or if you do..that excuse becomes obsolete.

Er....I think that is done very often, that people challenge to see if they can grab the ring, and for the mere want of the ring..only a vocal handful challenge for reasons with a political mind-set, or for spite.
Well wishes,
Coron.

Patrons of Dos,
If it is going to be a "test of skill" should the number of duels be increase to say 3 or
5. Becasues we all know on any given night depending on a dueler's edge how good his
skill is that week before and the last time he tested that skill in the ring fews times anyone
can best other in one duel. for a Ring of a Baron or the overlord's crown which I guess is
still in question. Just a ideas my $.02

Because the majority of snapper heads that challenge just to "Test themselves" Suck eggs in the ring and don't really have any real reason to challenge except to try to make their pathetic skills seem more than they are.
Clear enough?
