She paused.

She stared.

She glanced about once, snatched down the parchment with all the ode so carefully penned upon it unmindful of the pin that fell to its rest askance on the floor... and read it again.

A wild-eyed glance about the premisis revealed no source. A thrid reading gave no author. When she swallowed, her mouth was dry.

They were the whispers of a ghost... No, surely only those throughts of a friend. An admirer then; it wasn't unheard of--one too shy to leave his name.

And then she knew.

But of course it wouldn't have been fitting for him to sign it--not in so public a place. They were both of them so mismatched, not at all alike. She was a lady and he... he was none of her ilk, a creature just shy enough to never risk the unforgiving public. Such things, such pairs, were never made. Or so polite society should like to think.

She simply hadn't known he had such a poetic heart. Well, no matter. He was found out by her now.

She spun off on her heel toward the kitchens to thank Hubie personally.
