>>Once upon a time, it was a Community Respect and position weren't always measured by skill with a blade.<<
Respect and position in the community are not the same as the holding of title in the sport. Some of the most respected members of the community, past and present, do not or have not ever held title. Not everyone who has held title has been considered respected nor have they all been leaders, and very few of the current titleholders have shown the desire (though some have shown the aptitude) for leadership. Position in the community, and personal
respect, will always depend on perception in the eyes of the community. I believe that much of the comment on the recent conduct of Methous and Aspen would tend to hint that more than blade skill is still required to hold respect and position in the community. Methous has shown himself to be skilled, yet I doubt a great many of the community's members hold him in high regard.
Yes, there is much to be missed. While I still enjoy my time here, and have good friends here, it has changed. The time between the beginning of Valmion's tenure as Overlord and the beginning of Siera Redwin's tenure was very different than the time now. Mostly, this was due to attitudes. The majority of us, whatever our personal concerns or consideration, loved the sport and cared about the community.
Politics existed, yes. However, the decisions that were made in those days seemed to be more often based on what people thought was right than on a rather grasping desire to acquire a title and then to hold onto it.
We need to do more than say 'once upon a time'. Yes, things have changed. Mostly because people have changed. The duelists present now are not the same people as the old days. There is a new generation and many of the older generation have changed. Likewise, there are more members of a 'middle' generation. They, while not present for the 'old days' (and possessing several misconceptions in regard to them), complain about how things have changed for
the worse since they first came.
I would challenge those who discuss this matter to think of something. Seriously and objectively. During the period in which things changed for the worse, who was the most active? Who was most prominent? Who made the changes that you find so unpleasant?
When a community changes, it is because of the actions of the members. This can be conscious or unknowing, deliberate or unwitting.
Finally, looking towards the past has value if it serves to guide you towards the future. I tend towards nostalgia myself at times. However, it is a mistake to simply look at the past and regret its passing without doing anything about the present. There are many worthy of respect despite disagreement, there are many whom even agreement might not salvage.

It was. Unfortunately, you were not around then, despite what the rest of your post seems based off.

Yes, I was. I was a commoner for most of the time, and never rose above M@A, but I was there.

I think the new Overlord knows where I stand on him and his stances, and I think he can take a good guess as to what my alignment will be should the gods somehow decide that I am to win a Barony in his reign.

In the over six years I have been dueling this sport, the Overlord of Swords, has NEVER been known as the Leader of RhyDin. There has never been any one person recoginzed as a leader of RhyDin. Overlords, were given nothing more than respect for being an accomplished warrior.
