Words from the new holder of the Eighth

To all who care to read this, greetings. Most in the Community know who I am, but just the same, I am Cassius Gaius Maximius, and since the conclusion of the Warlord's Tournament this past Tuesday, I am the new Baron of the Eighth. I'd like to make a few statements.

First, I'd like to acknowledge a few individuals. First, my beloved wife Laylla who has stood by my side through everything....my gratitude for her is eternal, and my love for her will never die. To her I dedicate my very existence. As for this particular victory, I dedicate it to the great Barons of the Eighth from the past...Elijah Basia-Uhr, the first Baron of the Eighth, now known to the world in some form or another as Elijah Ecore. It was with
him
that I fought not once, but twice, in the Tournament, me coming away with the victory the first time, him the second....Jeff Oakenshield, longest-reigning Baron in the 8th's history...Dexter Montoya, a man who imparted much appreciated wisdom and support to me in my beginning days...Eros DeBurgo...the one who fought hard to protect the Ring from befalling the calamity that it eventually did, and he who trained me in the finer nuances of dueling..Ian
Ryan MacKenzie, who strains to better my behavior. Yes Ian, I do listen. I would also like to acknoweldge my friend Drakewyn Silvertree, for her part in having the ring repaired after it had been damaged by the despicable Methous, and for her efforts in trying to gain the Ring on her own. She would have been a grand Baroness, and probably someone more suited to restoring honor and grace to the Eighth than I. But it seems the Moirai did not decide it
was time for her to do that.

The Eighth is not irrereparably damaged. It's terrific lineage is unfortunately scarred by the terrble act of Methous, but it is not destroyed. Nor will it be further defaced. I simply will not allow it as Baron of the Eighth, from myself or from others. Let it be known now that never again will the Eighth be physically destroyed, or suffer any such other disgrace, not so long as I am able to have a say about it. It is a heavy task to restore the
honor of the Eighth, and mayhaps even bury the unfortunate calamity of this summer underneath good intentions and good actions, and I can only hope I am up to the task. But I intend fully to reign with honor.

Let it be known that the Eighth stands Renegade to the crown for so long as Magnus Eques is Overlord and I am Baron of the Eighth. My reasons are more political than personal. To be blunt, I disagree with Magnus's diehard stance on Tests/Intercessions. Holders of titled rank are not the rank itself. They are the custodians, and as such, it is their duty to ensure that those titles would not pass into the hands of someone who would disgrace it. If
that means placing your own glory to the shelf and stepping aside so that the Overlord or a Champion of the Test may fight, then so be it. For the argument of defeating such a threat with your own blade,I could bore everyone with historical facts stating the numerous times where the champion who opted to test was widely considered a superior warrior to their challenger, yet still opted to test. Upsets occur. In my opinion, to doubt the skill with the
blade of the Overlord or any of the Barons is quite simply asinine, and the argument that a titleholder is scared to fight on their own is barbaric.
My personal philosophy is to meet virtually all challengers with my own blade, but should a Warlord much like Methous challenge me, then I will not hesitate to use the Intercession, should I be Loyal to the Overlord reigning at the time. Another note before I finish....if you see me in the Arena, and wish to duel me...do not be afraid to ask, no matter what your rank. I will duel anyone, regardless of rank or accomplishment.

Thank you for listening,

Cassius Gaius Maximius
Laylla's husband.
Roman pretorian
Reigning Baron of the Eighth
Former Baron of the Sixth
Mage in DoM

I believe this is the only post Cassius has ever made that is longer than his signature.

::having never been much of a reader, he usually has a passerby or one of the serving boys read him the messages. For once however, he felt like making his presence known.::

::he then penned the only two words he truely knows how to spell::

::Smiles seeing this, knows either Eros, or Cas himself was behind it::

I don't care if I have to get it in a tourney, I'll have the 8th again.
