>One question though... why do the Romans claim their Empire ran continuously for so great a period? At least the Chinese admit when one Dynasty overcame another. For sheer length of non-anarchy, the feudalistic era in China is unsurpased in the history of the Realm of Earth. For advances in metalurgy, art, philosophy, medicine and science... their culture is unparalleled. For sheer population and achievement of physical monuments, they are
supreme.<

I never meant to belittle Chinese Empirical accomplishments, but I still dont think it can hold a candle to my homeland. If one includes the Eastern or "Holy" Roman Empire, Rome lasted for 2000 years. An Empire, by definition exists by conquering other lands, Rome itself was constantly at war and what began as a small Etruscan settlement eventually came to control a huge territory in politics, and pretty much their known world economically. It is
my understanding that China, after their early expansion became large enough in land mass to be self suffieicent, thus the conquest ceased and they built one of those 'physical monuments' (Great Wall) to keep out invaders, thus curtailing their own expansion. Therefore although China may have been a great "kingdom" Empire it was not.

There is also the manner of Legacy. Rome's legacy was all of Western Civilization. China's legacy was Westernized. Roman literature, and poetry, were unparalleled. Beyond that the Latin language was used for thousands of years after Rome was sacked. And when I left Earth in the early 21st century it was still the language of choice in intelectual and scientific circles.
