The commoner peruses the challenge missive, one slender raven brow arched as she deciphers the scawl.

Gentles,

Tis Ah fer one dinna e'er recall anna warlord insolent enow ta present a forfeited match ast a win among th' bona fides. Tis somehow ironic th' ta forfeiture be ta one wh' failed ta appear fer 'is own challenge.

Sorry for the delay of my reaction to this...most amusing challenge. I had to read the scroll three or four times before I realized it was a challenge. Last time I was on Earth, there was a
popular form of comical entertainment on the magick screen that presently enslaves all Terrans, known as "Beavis and Butt-Head". I had not been aware that one of this fictional duo was a duelist, but obviously I was mistaken. Warlord, while you may possess qualities that make you worthy of replacing me as Baron of the Eighth, you certainly have yet to publically display them. On the other hand, you have most definitely exhibited qualities that lead
me to the conclusion you are not ready, to say the *very least*. I am far from a veteran of the rings, but Mortis, I don't even remember you being around for my first Baronial reign, which was barely a long time ago. Hell, you didn't achieve the rank of Warlord until after I won *this* ring. You rush for power, and I will not be the bridge to ill-deserved rewards, Warlord. And you will plunge in the river, and you will be drowned, like a worthless
criminal in the Tiber. Among your peers is a forfiet, and one in which you were losing the match you decided to take the victory in. Pathetic. But tonight, you crossed the line, offering public insult to my love, who had nothing to do with this. If you wished to stoke my anger, you have succeeded. If you think I will vent it in a certain fashion beneficial to you, you are mistaken.
I will answer your challenge in due time. Til then Warlord, and know the temptation is great indeed to dismember you gradually and place your flayed skin above my mantle.

I don't think anyone should say such is a joke when one can hardly read or right. As you know, when you talk to him in person - He's hardly like what is written upon the note, for your information. But you may not have known he's not literate, instead you jump to conclusions. It's not a joke, but a lacking in certain knowledge.

Anyway, win Cas.

And Damien, duel well.

Drey,

It's not so much the illiteracy that bothers me, after all, Avery cannot write, either, and I respect him a great deal.

What does bother me is the ways this person, Damien, offered his challenge.

He insulted pretty much every one of those he has as a peer win by calling them names. Plus, used as a peer win, One forfiet, a match where he was Losing.

I can feel pity for the person as he is unable to read or write, but his behaviour is on a par with Methous, in fact, worse than Meth in that he is so rude. Meth, at least, attempts, from time to time, to be polite.

I've seen no such acts from this one.

Cas,
Duel well and get yourself a defense against Damon, I mean Damien (isn't it annoying how people can't get names right?).

Interesting...

While I can recall a challenge where one of the listed wins was a forfeit, it was certainly not a forfeit while said duelist was loosing... and badly. It was also one of the challenger's alternates, placed on the list below his ten required and verified peer wins.

I wasn't going to say anything about this, since it really doesn't concern me, but a few points strike me as funny. A few months ago, when Cassius challenged Magnus for the 13th, I refered to him as a bastard and received many stones thrown at me for my words. Now Marius has refered to Damien as a bastard but this same person doesn't say anything.

Such low brow insults are in poor taste, no matter who's pen writes them or who's mouth says them.
And yes, I do say this to those that are my friends as well.

This sound familiar, Drake? Its amazing how hypocritical some people can be sometimes.
As for this message, it is painfully obvious that Damien is not fully literate. I believe the current Baron of the 12th is also illiterate, the only difference between the two being that Avery has someone write for him, where Damien doesn't.
The only reason Damien is the way he is, is that the world to this point has been cruel to him, so he decided to be cruel back. I'm sure nobody here has ever shown him an ounce of respect, which is why he returns none.

Cletus

By the way, don't bother insulting Damien on the boards, you're just wasting your time as he can't read.

Marius never specifically referred to Damien as such. He was qouting a favorite qoute of his.
And the world treating you bad is not a sufficent reason to condemn people automatically. You sound like a lawyer here, Cletus. Baron Medici is a very kind-hearted individual who I think would normally be glad to show my challenger some compassion. Certainly, Var offered Damien no insult that deserved his comment. And the people have the right to comment on this match, no matter if a combatant can read it or not. Cletus, I understand you wish to
help your friend. Well, you're experienced in challenges, teach Damien the proper manners for challenging for titled rank. If he can't rein in his attitudes, I see no reason to rein in my response.
