Dear fellow duelers,
A few years back I was given a link to realms of Rhydin. When I first started it was merely out of curiousity. It gave me something to think about. Then I started to meet people like Jeff and Luppy. In fact Jeff was most likely my first friend in dueling. As soon as I started to meet the duelers I came to duel out of pure pleasure. If I lost, I lost, if I won I say get a bottle of champagne.
I disappeared from the realms for awhile due to the stupidity of meself and AOL. As soon as I returned it became even more fun...I saw how some of the people I had known back in the day had progressed and that they were many more duelers now. But to my dismay there was now an attitude with dueling. People weren't dueling for the friends, roleplay, thrill, etc. but were dueling for competition. Now I am not saying that there wasn't competition
before...I'm just saying that competition seems to be almost an obsession. I regret to admit that I am victim to this competition attitude, I even started caring about my rank and how many duels I'd lost or won. Finally I stopped and yelled at myself for it.
This is just a simple shoutout to you guys to protect yerselves from this "plague"...and to those of you who had a cow about the "Battle of teh Sexes" you may want to consider this note heavily.

I, for one, don't mind people who care about rank... this whole idea that people who care about their rank are somehow wrong in the head is, in my opinion, rather silly. I'm a WarLady... not a very highly ranked one to be sure, but ranked as such none-the-less. The times I had trouble with my dueling and kept coming close to loosing my rank on a weekly basis worried me. Of course they worried me. I am not obsessed with rank or status, but what is wrong with taking pride in your skills, and being disappointed or worried when you have trouble? Certainly, there are those who do take rank and such to the extreme, but these are also the same people that are rude to their fellow patrons, abrupt or even rude to the staff, and, in general, unpleasant people all around. I will freely admit that I prefer to duel those of or near my own rank... This is not a slight against those of the commoner rank, as I will duel them if they request just as quickly as any other. I also let anyone who asks to duel me know upfront that I am a WarLady, and that I will not put aside my hard-won skills (fancies) if I feel that I should use them. What it comes down to is this. Duel who you want; worry about what you want; be proud of who and what you are, no matter your rank, age or sex; and always, always, remember... Have Fun!

To each his (or her) own. If someone wants to get grey hair worrying about rank, rather than just having fun, it won't bother me. However, it seems to me that those people leave dueling at a higher rate, and are usually frustrated when they do. Such is why I could care less if I stay as a Commoner forever.The Eternal Commoner,
