Taking the dive. (SL)

Marius took a deep breath and leapt, for a few brief seconds the water rushed up at him as the infant sun sparkled off the surface and into his eyes. "Aurora..." he whispered, moments later he was engulfed. For nearly a minute he swam, his stomach grazing the bottom, reveling in the void, the touch of water and sand.

Feeling his lungs tire, the Roman pushed off the sand and hurled himself upwards, traces of light magnifying until he broke surface, gasping joyously for air. He felt entirely refreshed, letting out a series of inspired whoops he tread water for a few moments before going under again and heading towards the shore. It was a cold morning. Throwing a toga over himself he walked back towards his villa, his teeth chattering lightly through his grin.
Leaving his little lake he promised to visit it again, when the sun was once again reborn.

Upon entering Colestae' Manor, Marius grabbed an apple off a tabletop and munched on it, savoriously as he approached the large oaken door of his bedroom. The grand door was a curtain, opening to show the wondrous vision of Lisana, sleeping like a child. The great bed seemed to beckon him, but he frowned and turned away. The Baron had responsibilities. Tonight was Cletus' match and he had promised Cas that he would come by early to converse. In any
event he was not tired. He rarely was. Marius was one of those rare souls who rarely needed more than three or four hours a night, to feel completely rested the following morning.

So he was leaving. He was going to go. There were things to do. Marius did not move a muscle. He just stood there, captivated by his wife's resting features. There was no longer any doubt about it, Gaius Marius Colestae' was in love. Racking his brain the Centurion tried to place his finger on the exact moment that he had fallen in love and for the life of him he could not. In hindsight he guessed he'd probably always loved her in some vague, poetic
sense of the term, but only after their "wedding" had he fallen... and fallen hard. He was unsure how to tell her this; his Patrician pride forbade him to verbalize these feelings, this vulnerability. He shook himself.

After taking a big bite of his apple, Marius grabbed a quill and wrote, in his nicest, most flourished handwriting:

Goddess, I have business to which I must attend and will be unable to see you until tonight. I rose early to go swimming, I was going to invite you but you looked so peaceful as to strike envy in the dead. I would have no part in disrupting that. There are some fruits and breads in the dining hall, and old Claudius can fix you something if you desire a little more substance.
In the few moments of the day in which my thoughts aren't yours I have considered on the circumstances and events of our wedding. And while I suppose they could be seen as existentially romantic in some twisted, Bacchanal, way... we could probably do better. Such a resplendent love as ours deserves a more majestic birth; I therefore would be honored if you were to grant me your exquisite hand, once again, in marriage. This time Ill let you chose the
vicar....
Eternally yours,
~Mar

Placing the note next to her pillow, Marius walked out. Out of his euphoric bubble and into the real world. He drank too much. His sanity was at times precarious. His dead father was laughing at him. He did not care.

Lisana had gone to bed late the evening before, knowing she had a shift to work in the Outback the next evening. Sleeping late into the day she had woken sometime after 2 in the afternoon. Finding the note as she stretched and woke up. A soft smile on her lips as she takes it off the pillow reading over his writing twice before it sinks into her still sleep filled brain. Smiling as she
moves towards the table. Setting the note down upon it before she moves to pack up her work clothes and boots in her pack. Dreading the night to come. She didn't want to have to work tonight while he was elsewhere watching the challenge match. She wanted to be there to see it.

Her thoughts drifting away from tonight to the events of the past week. She had been married for a week. Tonight would make a whole week that she had been Lisana Colestae'. It still amazed her that they had made it this long or this far from where it had started. Laying back in her hot bath as she absently plays with the bubbles. Her eyes closing as she lets her mind wander. A drunken fiasco of a wedding. Who could have ever thought that they would
start out that way. Friends, oh yes they were friends, she was more sure of that then anything. Thought at times it had been trying, with his bouts of sanity and insanity. Chuckling softly as she thinks of the duels they had gone through. A broken bottle over her head, a sword pulled on her. What else could he have done but outright kill her and here she was. Madly in love with her Centurion. Proudly wearing his ring and bearing his name. Somewhere
in all of this things had changed. She had changed, even he had changed in subtle ways, though when or how she couldn't rightly place. Drying off quickly and dressing in the ever familiar long flowing summer dress. Her hair brushed and tucked behind her ears before she heads downstairs.

A quick nod and a few words to Claudius before she grabs a slice of bread and two peaches for her breakfast. Claudius returning with the sandwich she described made and wrapped in a soft cloth along with her container of juice. Both items tucked into her pack before she heads for the door and slips out. Having to stop by the office really quick before she does a bit of shopping. She does have a wedding to participate in and her summer dresses just
won't do it. Smiling and humming happily as she heads off to town.

Lisana stopped at the office, checking to see if her coworker was back from where ever it was that she happened to have to go. A note left in her box for her. She had the night off, Ria was back and going to take the shift solo so that Lisana could have the night off. Which was just what Lisana needed. Heading back out of the outback she headed off towards town. Moving towards the Market
place. Having to do some shopping.

Lisana headed towards the shop where she usually had her summer dresses made. Bypassing all the other more expensive specialty shops. She wanted something unique and something made by someone she trusted to do a good job. Madelynn's shop was where she knew she could get that done. The bell ringing softly as she stepped inside the shop. Madelynn heading out from the back room. The smiling middle aged woman giving a squeak of suprise before Lisana
found herself wrapped up in a hug that comes from a long time of friendship with the other woman. " Lisa girl where have you been? Its been since the beginning of the summer season since you were here! You haven't even ordered your dresses for this winter!" Madelynn just rambling as she lets go of Lisana. Lisana stepping back with a soft laugh as she brushes her hair out of her face and smiles at Madie. " Madie, well lets see where to begin. I have
been working a lot. A few changes have come up which is why I am here. I need a dress. A special dress. Madie, I need a simple wedding dress." Lisana smiling at the rather suprised Madie as she gets ushered deeper into the store.

Madie once more turning into the professional as she sizes Lisana up. Her fingers plucking at the summer dress that Lisana now wears. Hmmming and nodding to herself as she moves back in front of Lisana. " I have just the dress. A bit of taking in and altering and it will be just perfect. Don't you worry."

A short while turning into a few hours as Lisana stands still as Madie adjusts the dress to fit her. Leaving the shop well after dark with the package in her bag. Lisana heads towards the Arena and the challenge match to come. Heading towards her husband.

Lisana found Marius in the Annex. She was used to find him in one of the Arena's so that was the first place she always looked for him. Tonight was a bit different though, it was the challenge match between Topaz and Cletus. Tonight was going to be quite interesting.

It was no big surprise to any that most were cheering for Topaz, nor that Lisana and Marius were there together. Their marriage seemed to be outlasting everything else and they were strong when they were together. The match started with lots of noise and quite a bit of joking around. The Arena was quite full. Topaz was quite a lady in Lisana's eyes. Something she only hoped she could accomplish.

Marius started taking bets on who would win the match shortly after it started. "Anyone else want to place a bet?" Lisana turned to look at him and just smiled. Digging around in her pouch to see what she had left after her shopping trip. " I have 25 gold coins." Marius looked down at his wife and smiled. " On who Lux?" Lisana pondered for all of two seconds on that question. " I say that Topaz wins 5-1.5." Marius laughing softly before he nodded. "
I'll take that bet dear." Lisana snuggling up against him as she watched the fight.

Of course the night wouldn't be complete without Zen opening his mouth and trying to do what he could to bash Marius and Lisana. Commenting to Avery "Only a fool would gamble money on a match that has already started. Or a destitute idiot." Marius coming back with quite a few quips and the solid gold winner. "PTSIZE=10>Some of us have YOUR girlfriend to support." That one even drawing a frown from Cassius. Lisana let it slide, turning up and brushing a kiss to Mar's lips with a
soft whisper. " I love you."

The Match was over and Topaz had won it 5-2. Marius looking down at his sheet. " there was no holder of 5-2, so the winnings go to Lisana Colestae with the closest number of 5-1.5. The pot is 115 gold pieces to you my lovely wife." Lisana chuckled softly and tucked the pouch away into her pack before she looked around. " Thank you my love." Marius glancing about as they both offered their congratulations to Topaz. Before turning to his wife. " Care
to go to the Outback?" A quick nod and a smile given to him before she answered. " Please, I would enjoy that." Both of them heading out of the Arena and up to the Outback for a bit of relaxation and perhaps some fun.

They entered the Outback hand in hand. A nod and wave to Ria before things started turning downhill. Ria asking how Lisana was and Lisana told her that she was fine and had gotten married. Ria assumed it was Zen but Lisana corrected her and told her that it was in fact Marius. Explaining what had happened and gone on. Ria immediately went rather ballistic. Not even knowing the whole story before she started calling Lisana names and began trashing
Lisana in front of patrons that Lisana worked for as a caller every week. One thing led to another and Lisana put up with a lot from Ria before she had it. That last name that was slung at Lisana just sent her over the edge. Flying over the back of the couch she caught Ria off guard and sent her doubling over with a wicked punch. Ria wouldn't let it go though and one thing led to another. Both of them swinging at each other and quickly escalating
into a full fledged cat fight. Marius breaking off his duel to separate the two with Jen and Kheldar. "Sedate them or something but stop them." Marius called out to Jen who quickly went and got her medic kit. Filling a syringe with a sedative and injecting first Lisana who was kicking and fighting against Mar's hold to get at Ria who was doing the same in Kheldar's hold to get at Lisana. Jen next injected Ria. Both women were lain on separate
couches. Jen and Kheldar going about patching them up. Lisana coming away with a concussion and a severely dislocated knee. Ria on the other hand had a broken rib.

Lisana sleeping through most of the rest of the night after Jen and Kheldar gave her the pain medication. Waking only towards the end and with Kheldar's help in putting Mar on his horse she headed home with him on crutches. Another evening of business as usual for them anymore, or so it seemed to her. Finally getting him home it was a few of his legionnaires that helped get him into the house and up into their room. Shooing away everyone to undress
him and tuck him beneath the covers, before she was joining him, minus the ruined summer dress.

Gently laying her leg over him so that it doesn't get hurt, she lays against his chest, her eyes closing as tears slip down to pool against his skin. Whether from pain or from frustration she doesn't know. Mar wrapping his arms around her with a mumbled "I'm sorry." Before silence falls again.
