Drey,
I suppose I'd just be justifying your post with a response, but I've never been one to back down from a fight, so:
<<All I want to know is, what's the questions with Avery? And is there any with Damien?>>
What's wrong? Just because I choose to support the minority of the two you have a problem with it? My questions about Avery are between he and I, you aren't important
enough to warrant an explanation. Yours is to sit, read and nod your head.
<<I think I get partly that he thinks he'll win because the odds are against him, but I don't understand is 'why' he wants him to win.>>
Because the rare few like myself that haven't had life handed to them on a platter yet manage to be successful in life fully empathize with what it's like to be on the short end of the popularity stick. Damien actually hasn't been as obnoxious and idiotic as you all are making him out to have been, I just think it's more of a result of you not wanting him as OL. All the more reason for SOMEONE to give the kid an emotional boost. When you've
had your back up against the wall with noone on your side, maybe you'll understand why.
<<Will this better the sport, if Damien succeeds? Hardly.>>
For once, no offense to Avery, but how does he better the sport? Is he somehow more of an Overlord than the past four or five? Is he some kind of community messiah that will dispel the darkness and bring the DoS into a new light? No, he's just another guy with a proverbial crown on his noggin.
And Yes, Damien WOULD be good for the sport. From what I hear, if whether he succeeds or not is moot, he'll be bringing on challenges that actually have some basis other than "testing" onself's skills. He has people in an uproar and they're fighting for what they believe in. So, yes, he would be good for the sport.
To sum this all up:
I've been insulted by bigger, better, smarter and more successful people than yourself Drey. I certainly hope you duel better than you argue, because you suck eggs at that.
Tell you what! Get yourself a barons ring between now and three weeks when I come back and I'll take it from you. If you don't, I'm going to either take Zen's or Zam's ring from them after I get a couple more peer wins. I'd rather take it from you though.
Note the fact that I speak as if it's a forgone conclusion....that's because it is. Whoever I challenge, I will beat. Period. Because I'm that good.

If you want to know why people don't want Damien to win, Billy Ray, I'll tell you at least how I feel.
To be blunt, I don't like Damien; not as a person, and definitely not as overlord. Whatever he could do to garner any potential respect from me, he has done the opposite.
In fact, I don't even think he should be baron, because he didn't truly beat ten peers to challenge. He got lucky that one disappeared while the opponent was winning, and took the forfeit to be used as a peer. Of course, Damien could have come back, as it's possible in any duel... but I am assuming you understand how stupid it sounds to use a win when you didn't grit your teeth and fight till the end.
Also, I think you would dislike him if he happened to beat you and he used you as a peer win. He would have called you "that guy who duels with his sap gloves." Personally, I think you'd be upset if Damien didn't even try to recall your name. I know very well you do have an ego, as you know, and you wouldn't appreciate the disrespect of him not knowing your name.
He's a Billy Ray wannabe; you seem to be encouraging him just because nobody likes the "poor little kid" (just as you feel you weren't liked) when he was the one who got himself in this position.
If I'm wrong with what I think, oh well. If you don't agree with me, oh well. What's more important is that I get to state my thoughts, and that you realize no matter what respect I may have for your endeavors in the ring, I won't lick your boots if I think you're wrong. In this case, I think you're wrong.

We're still on this politics kick, I see. I personally think everyone deserves their fair shot at Overlord. I stepped in against a test Dalamar once laid out to a kid that was considered in much the same light everyone here is throwing on this Damien person. Dalamar was one of my best friends, and the person he chose to test was someone I respect greatly. Why would I step in against one of my best friend's hold on
a title? Because the rookie then deserved his fair shot, as I believe this rookie here does.
No matter what the outcome, the Overlord does not decide the fate of our world. The affect he or she has on your life is less than a tenth of a percent. The best part about this being a sport is that if you don't like something, you can take a few very easy steps to change it. Especially when you're a Baron or happen to have fifteen peer wins laying around. Dalamar, Avery, this Damien guy ... three very different men, each one of them with at
least one characteristic you could dislike: the only difference is one of them makes it much easier to see. Dalamar and Avery got their time in the sun with relative fairness. If I were still a Warlord, I would gladly step in for this Damien kid, to ensure that he got his fair shot without someone getting in the way. Dueler versus Dueler has always been the important part of this sport. I've always liked seeing people fight the people they
intended to fight.
What my belief comes down to is this: never let this old arena effect your sense of sportsmanship and fair play, no matter how unsportsmanlike you perceive someone to be. Remember: the rules don't dictate sportsmanship, you do.

I thought about writing something but I realized it would just elicit more of the same, so what's the point?

<<I think I get partly that he thinks he'll win because the odds are against him, but I don't understand is 'why' he wants him to win.>>
"Because the rare few like myself that haven't had life handed to them"
Typical reason. That's irrelevant. You mean to tell me, becuase he hasn't had life handed to him, he should be OL? Just like I and several others, hey?
Maybe you should witness this kid personally before you cast words, claiming his acts "minor." You haven't actually been around to watch, (And you said you've never seen him) but because he hasn't had life handed to him - He's a great overlord.
I agree, Avery is no better so far then the rest of the past 4-5 Overlords that have taken the Crown, but Damien hardly rises above that stature.
>When you've
>had your back up against the wall with noone on your side, maybe you'll
>understand why.
I have, in fact. It's no reason to turn ugly, at all.
>Tell you what! Get yourself a barons ring between now and three weeks when I
>come back and I'll take it from you.
Does that actually prove anything? More of your hormonal ramblings? I haven't even lifted a blade in awhile, and I doubt you've dueled more recently then me.
You'd rather take a ring from me? A lousy commoner? I defied The Great Billy.
>Whoever I challenge, I will beat. Period. Because I'm that good.
I'll be the first to pat you on the back, buddy of mine. I'll bet my fortune on you losing, too.
Go on.

::anonymous unsigned note posted to the corkboard::
Billy Ray Karnafexx has proven himself more as a capable duelist, especially in challenge situations, more than any other dueler past, present, and/or future in these rings. There is a reason why he is "The Great Billy" as someone so sarcastically put on this board. Perhaps, if newer duelists actually earned their stripes to have the mouth they do, like Billy Ray already has, maybe someone would give a damn what you had to say. Otherwise, I
would suggest you shut your pie-hole and duel to prove you got something more than winning a title once and losing your first defense.

Anyhow.

This is what we expect from the anonymous. Nothing to back up the words. It shouldn't matter whether you've won a title or not. If this is what it takes to have a voice, this person can shove it up his pie-hole.
Such wit with this one.

The Unknown Poster seems to subscribe to the school that you can only give an opinion if you have a winning record, or multiple Baronies, and the defenses to go along with them. I would like to remind the unknown personage that many skilled and respected duelists have held title, and have had a hard time defending. Elijah Eagle Ecore, in his storied career, held many rings, and was not able to defend one of them until his very last reign. Not to
mention highly skilled, well respected, and very intelligent duelists who have never even won title. In short, if Drey wants to argue with Billy, let him, and do not tell him to shut his piehole based on his accomplishments, especially since you seem to lack the fortitude to state your own name, and as far as any of those who would read your post now, you may have no accomplishments of your own. Not that it matters on this cork.

The one thing you don't realize that is that I'm saying the kid should get the shot at Avery, period. I'm not saying he should BE overlord, just that he deserves the shot.
If the powers that be say he can do it, and you don't like that, go attack the powers that be.
If Avery thinks the kid should be tested, then TEST him. I'm a firm believer in defending the overlord, unless I was the overlord myself. I believe in giving the help but not recieving it.
I do things I feel is right, even if you think they're totally without merit.
Var,
I wouldn't go after you unless you took it upon yourself to take a shot at me for my opinions.
Well, I would, but I won't.
Just because.

Billy~
On a side note about Damien not having things handed to him, perhaps you should talk to Avery. I've seen this kid scrap and save to provide for his wife and son. He worked very hard to accomplish what he has. NOTHING has been "handed" to Avery.
I know you are probably not trying to intimate that Avery is some pretty-boy rich kid who only duels here to mingle with the "common folk", but I felt I should write something just the same.

Drey,
You are trying to argue against an emotional position with logic. Billy has said himself that he doesn't know why he doesn't like Avery as Overlord, he just doesn't. That is an instinctive decision, not a logical decision. Logical arguments don't make much difference against such a position, because the position itself is not based in logic. Likewise, he said that he wanted the underdog to win. This is an emotional motivation, even a sentimental
one. I doubt trying to argue logically will matter there either.
Basically, Billy is a very talented arse. Everyone knows that. People should remember it when they read or listen to what he has to say. You can't argue effectively with someone who is just trying to antagonize people. Psychological warfare is one of his tactics, he likes to be 'up' on people. Congratulations, Drey, he really succeeded with you. Now, relax, take a deep breath, and walk away from the board.
The only place to argue with Billy is in a ring somewhere. Otherwise he won't be paying attention, not really.

"I'm not saying he should BE overlord, just that he deserves the shot."
I understand that's what you believe and I'm quite fine with it - Now.
"I" believe he didn't even deserve Baron, with the forfeit and all. I still wouldn't want him on the council even with a straight up 10 peer win roll out. Plus, I believe he deserves a shot at Overlord.
I understand he hasn't had life "handed" to him.
No matter, he needs to learn respect for others. Even you, Billy, have tainted your ego with respect.
