((Author's note: The Challenge results have been written up via story form. You'll find most members present for the challenge mentioned in the story simply because I got the information from Logging, with the exception of editing some typos here and there. I am just trying to encourage more storylines this way as it relates directly to the event in the arena.
However, I did include a short version of the results for those who are do not wish to read this. I changed the subject line within this same thread to read Official Results so to reflect the shorter version. You will also find that I left the story off with I think is an easy transition welcoming those who posts responses normally to a challenge , easy.))

The Officiator entered the arena, dressed in DoS uniform. Tonight, the Challenge match between Baroness Topaz and Magnus Eques was to take place. The Overlord Avery Shiv Blade entered into the arena not but a second later.
"Hail Overlord, " said Xenograg with a slight and respectful cant of his head. The Overlord removed his hood and returned greetings to those who addressed him.
Marit moved toward the officiating table. She set the tome down, arranging other materials such as parchments and quill according to her liking. She shifted her head upward and greeted the Overlord who had wrinkled his nose after coughing.
"Damn cold, " he murmurred.
Another glance around, Marit was pleased to see Warlord Magnus and Baroness Topaz present. Baron Dex Montoya stood beside Topaz. Avery stepped over toward the official and smiled. As he took off his cloak, he whispered something to her. She gestured a wave at the seat beside her.
Dex possessed eyes of study upon the challenger. Magnus, facing the rings, sipped on an ale.
"Breath, " Xenograg encouraged the Baroness Topaz.
"Ok, " answered Topaz. She inhaled and slowly let the air back out.
Although Marit was listening to the Overlord, her good hearing caught wind of Dex's question directed at Magnus. She whispered something back to Avery.
"I am curious Sir, What alignment will you not be having the opportunity to choose?" asked Dex. No response came from Magnus. Either, he was in his own thoughts, unaware that Sir Montoya was even speaking to him and hence not hearing the question or he simply didn't want to answer. Dex shrugged and whispered to Topaz, "Guess we will not know." She agreed.
"I suggest warming up, " said Xenograg.
The Overlord released a small shrug as he talked with Marit. He leaned back, his eyes seeming to focus on two patrons in particular, but then he turned his sight toward the Challenge ring. Marit observed as Avery tried to find more comfort on the sofa. She knew the seat was cold. She knew he had just gotten over sickness, too.
Cassius Maximus approached the officiating table.
"Damnit, Avery. Can't you hit on her later? She has a match to call, " he said, jestfully. Marit kept down a chuckle inside. Of course, the Overlord was not hitting on her. She knew that, but this was normal banter play. Still, she did have a match to call and so she cleared her throat quickly, then stood up taller.

"First, I would like to welcome everyone to the Duel of Swords. I hope you are all gathered here this evening to observe the challenge match about to take place. Please 'ave a seat as we are about to begin."
Once the patrons seemed settled and calmer, she continued by requesting Warlord Magnus and Baroness Topaz, step forth and stand before her.
Magnus took a last sip and hopped off his stool. He headed toward the rings and quickly jumped inside them The Baroness gave a glance to Xeno and Dex before she moved on. Marit smiled at Magnus. "Ready Aye?" She didn't give him time to answer but she was polite enough in asking him to to leave the ring and come stand beside Topaz who had just approached.
"Yes, Magnus. You have to stand by a girl. The sacrifices one must make to be a Baron, " Cassius remarked. "A woman, Cassius, " Marit teasingly corrected. "I beg your pardon." A small grin and wink acommpanied her comment.
The Roman glanced then to Topaz.. "Yes, Indeed." The Baroness returned a fairy grin.
Once Magnus situated himself in the proper place, Marit settled her eyes upon him.
"Magnus Eques, you have chosen to press forth challenge unto Baroness Topaz, who wears the thirteeth ring. I gather from your undeniable presence, … this still holds true?"
"Aye, it does, " he answered.
"Please announce to the audience your second and Lady of Honor if you have one. State your particulars as well."
A couple of the patrons turned to listen as Magnus faced them.
Marit inwardly smiled. She had heard that at one time, this way of announcement was practiced in the old days. She liked it and decided to try it out. Avery quirked up a brow and nodded with approval. He liked Marit's choice of handling the announcement.
"I have nae a second and my lady of honor, " Magnus said through a sigh, "…she is my dead mother. She is my lady of honor."
Xenograg dipped his head slightly at Magnus's words. It seemed more attention from other patrons were caught by this statement.
"My colors shall be that of my homeland Polaris. They are black with a centered star and I shall duel with two weapons as always; my hatchet given to me by my dying fostered father and my sword, Dual Blade. That will be all."
Magnus turned himself back around. His head was held lower than it had been held only moments before.
Marit leaned down toward Avery and in a low tone said, "I will announce the Baroness's particulars." She grinned and straightened up. "Baroness Topaz, please confirm your intentions of defending the thirteeth ring."
"It is my intention to defend the thirteeth ring, " announced Topaz.
Marit then placed her golden eyes upon the audience.

"Baroness Topaz has chosen Xenograg kathu-Karelir to stand as her second and Dex Montoya as her Lord of Honor. She shall be wielding her featherlight sword and dueling under the jade and black of House Atrebla."
Magnus coughed.
The Overlord's eyes fell over the two former Overlords. He smiled to himself. The thought of being so much younger briefly rushed through him.
Marit then addressed the challenged and the challenger.
"I am honored to call and officiate this match. May honor be to you both as you see it. Duel with Skill."
Magnus nodded and Topaz whispered a soft thank you.
"Magnus and Topaz, Please enter the Challenge Ring, Salute and Begin!"
No doubt, the warlord was quick to jump in the ring.. He bowed to Topaz and the official, Marit, then removed the hatchet from his side.
"Topaz, one word, " Dex said as Topaz prepared. "Defend." The Baroness grinned as Dex tossed her a Jade ribbon. A spark of something in rememberance seemed to pass with the exchanged looks between the two friends. "Thanks Dex." She snatched the ribbon from the air. She handed Xeno the scabbard while holding on to the hilt of her blade. "Good luck, my student, " Xeno said. Topaz tied the ribbon to the wrist guard before freeing her sword
from the scabbard.
"Good luck, Magnus, " announced Lady Kattya who had just made an appearance into the arena.
Marit sat down, grabbing up the quill in front of her. She was satisfied with the clear view of the Rings.
Topaz nodded to Dex and Xeno, then stepped into the ring where Magnus waited. Xeno held a staff in his left hand and Topaz's scabbard in his right, watching as the Baroness raised the tip of her blade to salute Avery and Marit. Facing Magnus she treated him to a salute as well.
"Truth and Honor, M'lord, " she told him.
Magnus acknowledged her with a nod. He took this as the signal to begin.

Topaz began with delivery of a hard and fast low cut; however it was cut short by the Warlord's thrust. She winced slightly but recovered quickly. "1 - 0 Magnus, " Marit called.
"Good shot Magnus, " Lady Kattya shouted.
"Shake if off, Topaz." Xeno commented.
"Round one means little if anything," Cassius said, while rewarding Hubie, the serving lad, with five silver sesterrii for the Icewyne. "Share that with your buddies, alright?"
Marit prepared to call the second round results..
"It is a round of fancies. I will be quick and to the point. There are no points awarded to the ducking by Topaz and neither the sidestepping of Magnus. The Score remains 1 - 0 with Magnus leading."
"Well stepped, M'lord, " said Topaz. Magnus barely heard the Baroness but nodded out of habit.
"Good job Topaz. Slow down any momentum, " came another encouragement.
Marit's eyes moved along with the dueler's motions. She watched carefully.
"C'mon Magnus, " shouted Bode Bojangles, "Ya gotta smack 'er around." More patrons slipped into the arena at the beginning of the third round.
Topaz lowered her featherlight sword and once again cut in. Magnus quickly defended himself with a circular parry that was ever so fancy. He brought the hatchet down and around with an added spin.
"2 - 0 Magnus leads," Marit called.
"No problem, Topaz. . . keep 'em coming," urged Secondat.
"Marcus,. . ." Marit's spoke her thought aloud unintentionally at first, but then directed this comment to Avery. "I could stand a drink of water. 'ave you seen them anywhere about?" She figured he had known her reference to be that of the serving lads. She smiled as she flickered a glance and saw he was totally immersed in the challenge.
Sidartha's voice carried over to her ears. "Hey, cutie. I hear you're leaving tonight." Sidartha pushed the doors open further and strided down the arena steps.
Marit recognized Zen's voice in answer to Sidartha. "Nah, hon. Tomorrow night, I think. Good to see you though. Where've you been hiding?"
"I see, " responded Sidartha with a nod to her friend and a grin. "Well then, all the better for me. I have been working, working, working!"

"Touche!" yelled out Xenograg in response to Topaz's action..

Okay Topaz!" Knight clapped in good cheer.
Marit swallowed a little hearing mention from somewhere of drink. Her throat felt dry. Legola brought her a drink. She was surprised to find one so observant and especially coming from someone she did not know. "Here a go, " he said. "Oh, Thank you so much! It is just what I was wanting. " Her tone was filled with genuine appreciation..
"He'll start Choking Topaz, " said Cassius, "Keep it up!"
Dex seemed more relaxed after observing Topaz's defense. "That's better Topaz."
The Overlord leaned back coming out from his own seeming daze, his eyes on the ring.
"Topaz fancies up her movement. She steps aside...but not fast enough to avoid Magnus's high cut! 3 - 1 Magnus's lead, " Marit called.
A frown outlined the fairy's face. Magnus had connected with a hit to her shoulder. A few winces reigned on other faces as they watched. Even the officiator winced as she settled her hand around the glass of water.
"This is a dream, . . . It has to be. " said Cassius.

Some patron among the crowd challenged any to duel, however, Knight quickly informed him that it was not a regular night for duels and a Challenge was going on.
Excitement and action in the ring was stirring up some more. Marit held off from taking a sip of her water as she watched the Warlord and Baroness.
"You can do it Topaz! " said Dex, albeit calmly. Avery shifted his body position, his eyes still intent on the ring."
"One weapon is arced up high. This weapon belongs to the Baroness. Magnus lurches into motion with a lunge and thrust. He scores. 4 - 1 Magnus, " Marit announced.
More frowns happen to appear on faces. Marit finally lifted the glass to her lips and took a small sip. She set the drink back down on the table and continued to watch the duel with keen interest. She watched as Magnus brought the hatchet back to his side.
"Ok. Who wants to bet Dual Blade makes an appearance? " Cas humored loudly. A few chuckles followed his comment as well as the unsheathing of Dual Blade.
"I think thats a gamble I would feel safe asking with God, " Cas said. Avery shifted a look to Cas. "Come on Cas. Have some respect please," he said in a soft voice.
"Alright, " answered Cas with more dignity.
Xenograg found it quite unusual that one would switch weapons in mid-fight.
"Round 7, Topaz lunges in quick and skillfully delivering a thrust which Magnus is unable to defend, … especially with a low cut." Marit called.
Certainly is Topaz's right to take advantage while Magus switches weapons. I know I would 'ave done the same.
A figure appeared in the doorway of the arena. Dropping down her hood, Ellisa Morgan's appearance was revealed. Her cheeks held a soft red hue from the cold outside. Her gaze was sharp as she looked toward the center ring.
""Alright! Now make that comeback!" shouted Cassius.

Overlord Avery quietly continued to watch the duel with a head propped up by his hand.
Magnus seemed hesitant in his approach, but picked up on his movements not too long afterwards.
Ellisa Morgan moved down the stairs. Her gaze moved from the action to determine if any others seemed familiar to her. She absently tugged on one of her leather bracers as she moved, catching sight of a few friends. She moved toward one only though.
"Round Eight. Magnus approaches as does Topaz, …" Marit began. ". . . their movements come talive! Topaz weilds a low cut! Magnus lunges forth with a thrust! Point and win to Magnus!" The officiator winced as she watched the this round finish up.
Avery's eyes lit up. He nodded and applauded.
A small smile tugged at the corner of Ellisa's lips as she nodded to Sid in greeting. She was making a path through the crowd.
Verceterix stepped into the arena, wiping sweat from his face with the bottom of his shirt.
"Well, I think I was just a tad late, " he said. Avery smiled hearing the Baron.
"Ha ha!, " smirked Bode. He clapped hard. "Lotta good that ribbon did ya!"
A young lady named Bryena shote Bode a frown.
Magnus dropped Dual Blade. He bent to pick it up and sheathed it, then bowed.
"Very well dueled, Topaz. Very well."
"Not well wenough to keep the ring though. Tonight you are the better dueler, " said Topaz. The new Baron nodded. He turned toward Marit and thanked her. Her congrats were said as well.
"And well tried Topaz as I think you always do."
The Overlord clapped his hands while walking toward the ring.
"Well won, Magnus, " Xeno announced.
Many other welcomes and congratulations were given.
The Baron had his eyes closed and head upward. He appeared to be murmering his respects to his beloved mother. Finally, Avery arrived at the Ring. "Well done you two. A fine show." He leaned in to whisper something to Topaz while Magnus exited the ring, stepped toward the bar, took up his ale, and let out a sigh. His sip taken was in order to calm himself down. Topaz slid the ring off her finger. "Thank you for everything, " Avery told her.
Gently, she placed the ring in the palm of his hand. "Give it to him with my best wishes, " she whispered.
Marit moved forward and gave Topaz's hand a small squeeze and then hugged her.
"Baron Magnus, … Nay finished yet, " Marit informed, a small laugh following. He coughed and wiped some more sweat away. "Sorry bout that." Avery turned after kissing Topaz's cheek to face the Baron, never even knowing he had left.
"Well, it looks like you are once more upon the council and you performed as usual, " he said. "Let me be the first to give you congrats on being a Baron." He held the ring out for Magnus. The Baron slid the ring onto the finger it had once adorned.

"And now, "Marit asked, "I must ask. Magnus Eques, how do you stand to the Overlord?"
Magnus was silent for a moment and then finally announced, "I can nae say Avery is my enemy, …" his eyes swept over those listening as he spoke. ". . . nae a good friend. I have nae a thing against him besides that he once challenged me and wished to again, but I must stand as Renegade fer other reasons."

Overlord Avery quietly continued to watch the duel with a head propped up by his hand.
Magnus seemed hesitant in his approach, but picked up on his movements not too long afterwards.
Ellisa Morgan moved down the stairs. Her gaze moved from the action to determine if any others seemed familiar to her. She absently tugged on one of her leather bracers as she moved, catching sight of a few friends. She moved toward one only though.
"Round Eight. Magnus approaches as does Topaz, …" Marit began. ". . . their movements come talive! Topaz weilds a low cut! Magnus lunges forth with a thrust! Point and win to Magnus!" The officiator winced as she watched the this round finish up.
Avery's eyes lit up. He nodded and applauded.
A small smile tugged at the corner of Ellisa's lips as she nodded to Sid in greeting. She was making a path through the crowd.
Verceterix stepped into the arena, wiping sweat from his face with the bottom of his shirt.
"Well, I think I was just a tad late, " he said. Avery smiled hearing the Baron.
"Ha ha!, " smirked Bode. He clapped hard. "Lotta good that ribbon did ya!"
A young lady named Bryena shote Bode a frown.
Magnus dropped Dual Blade. He bent to pick it up and sheathed it, then bowed.
"Very well dueled, Topaz. Very well."
"Not well wenough to keep the ring though. Tonight you are the better dueler, " said Topaz. The new Baron nodded. He turned toward Marit and thanked her. Her congrats were said as well.
"And well tried Topaz as I think you always do."
The Overlord clapped his hands while walking toward the ring.
"Well won, Magnus, " Xeno announced.
Many other welcomes and congratulations were given.
The Baron had his eyes closed and head upward. He appeared to be murmering his respects to his beloved mother. Finally, Avery arrived at the Ring. "Well done you two. A fine show." He leaned in to whisper something to Topaz while Magnus exited the ring, stepped toward the bar, took up his ale, and let out a sigh. His sip taken was in order to calm himself down. Topaz slid the ring off her finger. "Thank you for everything, " Avery told her.
Gently, she placed the ring in the palm of his hand. "Give it to him with my best wishes, " she whispered.
Marit moved forward and gave Topaz's hand a small squeeze and then hugged her.
"Baron Magnus, … Nay finished yet, " Marit informed, a small laugh following. He coughed and wiped some more sweat away. "Sorry bout that." Avery turned after kissing Topaz's cheek to face the Baron, never even knowing he had left.
"Well, it looks like you are once more upon the council and you performed as usual, " he said. "Let me be the first to give you congrats on being a Baron." He held the ring out for Magnus. The Baron slid the ring onto the finger it had once adorned.

Avery projected his voice back, "Oh no. I expected it. I am more surprised your brother went Neutral." He chuckled. "I know we have had our dealings in the past and could only hope the future brings change. I have nothing but respect for ya Magnus."
"Gee, I'm real surprised, " Cassius cut in.
"Please Welcome Baron Magnus, "Marit announced. "and now I bid you all a good evening. Stay if you like and remember to have fun."
The Officiator gathered up her materials and placed them into a bag while listening to Baron Montoya talk to Overlord Avery..
"If I could have your attention, " Dex said. "I wish to inform you that Roland Salsinger has declared his intention to challenge me as soon as the standings are posted or shortly thereafter. I will be informing the community at large via the cork when it is official."
Marit clasped the knob…wondering what was to be posted after the official results of this challenge were put up on the cork board. With those thoughts and Daelin, she headed home.
