Challenge Results for the Thirteenth Baronial Ring

Simini was alone in a corner of the Annex, taking advantage of a few quiet moments to complete some paperwork, when a slight young man burst in from the Arena, looking about with great intent. When he saw the copper-haired woman, he was not at all shy about walking straight up to her table and interrupting her.

"My pardons, m'l... Simini," he corrected himself in time, being familiar with her discomfort with honorary titles. "The Challenge for the Thirteenth is ready to take place, but for the absence of Master Evermeadow, the scheduled official. Sir Eques sent me to find a replacement. Would you be available?"

Surprised that something would keep the half-elf from officiating a match, Simini nodded. "Indeed, I am able to officiate, if the contestants do nae mind waiting a few moments while I prepare?"

The lad nodded, knowing the two would wait. "Aye, I will inform them that you are on your way."

Several hours later, she pinned this missive upon the corkboard.

Let it be known that on the fourth evening of this moon, I did officiate a duel between the Warlord Taylara Tyree and the Thirteenth Baron of the Duel of Swords, Sir Magnus Eques. At stake was the Baron's title, and the right to wear the ring that symbolizes it.

The Warlord fought under the banner of Atrebla, and wore a vest of jade green with an ebony back and a silver 'A' emblazoned upon the left breast. She was Seconded by the Baron "Dexter" Montoya, Grand Marshall of the Guardians of Truth, and by her side as Lord of Honor was the Warlord Shadowsiv, Elven Ranger. Tyree's weapon of choice was an Elven longsword named Melan, gifted her by a friend.

Defending the Thirteenth Barony was Sir Magnus Eques, Seconded by Daelin Dragonsblade, in absentia. Eques was watched over by his deceased mother, and dueled with a hatchet - "Drachen's Hatchet" - and his sword, "Dual Blade".

The match progressed as follows:

Round One
Taylara takes a light step aside, but she isn't quite quick enough to avoid the Baron's low cut. First point to Magnus.

Round Two
Completing a slow circle with a quick low cut evens the score at one. ((lc/fdk))
Score: Warlord Taylara 1, Baron Eques 1

Round Three
The hatchet remains defensive, sweeping handily into a ((fancy)) lateral parry... scoring nothing against the Warlord's circular parry.

Round Four
Taking a step back even while rounding a skilled ((fancy)) circular parry, the Baron finds himself outdone by Taylara's equally skillful ((fancy)) sidestep.
Score: Warlord Taylara 2, Baron Eques 1

Round Five
Taylara's longsword is more than enough to stop Magnus' thrust. ((th/flp)) The score rests at 3-1.

Round Six
Round Six passes without a change in score. ((lc/lc))
Score: Warlord Taylara 3, Baron Eques 1

Round Seven
Taylara's quick slash is stopped by an even faster stophit from Magnus.

Round Eight
Round Eight passes without a change in score. ((hc/hc))

Round Nine
Although the display of ((both fancy)) sidesteps is a testament to the skill of the combatants, there is still no change in the 3-2 score.

Round Ten
After some consideration, Baron and Warlord face off once again.This time, it is the titleholder who slashes... and Taylara scores with a high cut!

Round Eleven
The elven longsword rounds downward into a low cut... meeting Dual Blade head on! ((lc/lc))

Round Twelve
Round Twelve passes without a change in score. ((hc/hc))
Score: Warlord Taylara 4, Baron Eques 2

Round Thirteen
Perhaps expecting thrusts, each contestant moves quickly... the Baron with a ((fancy circular)) parry, and the Warlord with a stophit. Neither scores.

Round Fourteen
Facing the Baron once again, Taylara then moves quickly... dodging the Baron's lateral parry with a ((fancy)) sidestep for the win! The final score for the Challenge is... 5-2, Atrebla.

And so it was that Taylara Tyree did take possession of her first Baronial Title, as Guardian of the Thirteenth, and declared it loyal to the Overlord Shiv Blade.

Me regrets fer nha attendin' ya shouldst well nha. As fer yer accomplishment, me pride an me confidence has nevah lacked when me life turns ta ya in annah way...
Well done an th verra best o luck in defendin'...though ah'm sure, as in mannah othah trials...luck is one thin' ya will nha need. Yer courage, grace, an skill shall carrah yer everah challenge.
