Hear Ye, Hear Ye.....
Barons, Lords, Ladies and friends gathered in the Arena to bear witness to the challenged issued forth by Renegade Baron Roland Salsinger to Overlord Avery Shiv Blade.
Baron Salsinger was the first to arrive, patiently awaiting the Official. Overlord Shiv Blade arrived with his lovely wife and Lady of Honor, Casey Shiv Blade. As everyone settled, the announcements began..... "Overlord Shiv Blades has chosen the Best of Three format," came the official decree.
As they stood in the ring, each was introduced to those gathered. Baron Salsinger was to duel bearing the colors of Crimson, silver and black. Standing as Second for the Baron would be, Xavier Ta'main, Second Place winner in the Tournament of Blades and current holder of the Twelfth. Also standing as Second would be Lord Nova Grey Shadow, in absentia. His Lords and Ladies of Honor were numerous; his Ladies this eve were Lady Ally Saint-Reynolds
and Lady Isis Aster. His Lords were, Lord Verceterix Favre, Lord Sartan Sal Roa, Lord Darian Redwin, Lord Mark Race, Lord Camerion Elsindel, and Lord Lupton est Dracoern. The weapon of choice this evening was a gift from Nova Grey Shadow, 'The Salsinger'.
Overlord Shiv Blade was dueling this evening in the crimson and metallic gold of House Oakenshield. Standing at his side as Second, was the Lady Bryena Tyree, first place winner of the Tournament of Blades and current wearer of the Duel of Swords Overlord Crown. Avery dueled for the honor of his wife and love, Lady Casey Shiv Blade. His weapon of choice was his trusted staff.
As they stepped to center, a salute was seen as the formalities were performed, then the duels began....
Ring of Honor
RD 1. Avery turned a high parry with a flourish to fend off the high cut by Roland. 1-0 Avery
RD 2. Dual low cuts echo within the hallowed halls.
RD 3. Roland deftly steps to the side to avoid the thrusting Avery. 1 All
RD 4. Avery cuts low as Roland strikes in high. 2 All
RD 5. Roland fancily dances into the high swinging staff. 3-2 Avery
RD 6. Avery turns a fancy high parry over the low cut by Roland. 3 All
RD 7. Avery ducks low and fancy, under the high cutting Salsinger.
4-3 Avery
RD 8. Avery fancy steps to gaze upon the fancy ducking Roland.
RD 9. Avery cut high as Roland ties it back up turning a fancy lateral parry. 4 All
RD 10. Avery fancily ducks under the fancy circular parry by Roland for the first win!
Avery defeats Roland 5-4 in 10 rounds. Match stands at 1-0 Avery
Ring Honor 2
RD 1. Avery thrust over the low cut by Roland to take the opener!
1-0 Avery
RD 2. Avery cuts low as Roland thrust to tie it at 1 All.
RD 3. Avery cuts high and catches the fancy stepping Baron. 2-1 Avery
RD 4. Avery goes low as Roland hits high! 3-2 Avery
RD 5. Avery's high cut it turned back by a well placed fancy lateral parry. 3 All
RD 6. Avery cuts low as Roland swings in high. 4 All
RD 7. Roland fancily ducks and finds Avery's blade buried deep as he thrust for the win. 5-4 Avery
Avery defeats Roland, 5-4 in 7 rounds.
Avery Shiv Blade defeats Roland Salsinger 2 duels to 0 in a Best of Three to retain the title as the 38th Overlord of the Duel of Swords!!
Both men fought with honor and integrity in two well matched duels.

I wish to explain something....
In my homeland, after one has been exceptionally lucky at gambling or some other financial venture, it is widely acceptable to throw gold coins around, so others may share in your fortune. Caligula was well-known for this in the first months of his reign, before he went insane and became a sadistic tyrant.
I had bet on Avery to win in two straight, and won. Since most of the room was for Roland, my winnings were handsome. So, I threw a couple coins around. As is tradition. Roland was among one of those I threw coins to. Unfortunately, a couple of his friends misinterpreted this to mean a mocking gesture, and were angered. To them I say this is not the case. Roland, I apologize if you believe you have been insulted, and I apologize to your friends as
well.

My my, I wish I had been able to attend this match indeed. Never did either duelist lead by more than a single point. Wow. Avery, well defended, it seems you like your present position, your just lucky we're friends. Kidding of course...

Actually, it was both. Making his horse a senator was one of the first signs of his impending collapse. Making him consul came later.

As someone who was a close personal friend of the Emperor Caligula I resent this conversation. Gaius was a great guy, his parties and orgies were unparalleled... and the horse made a better consul than pretty much any of you would....
