::Popping the Keg::

Billy grunted and swore as he heaved the massive keg of Jake's Orctober-Fest ale out onto the dancefloor. He shoved the tap into place and had the kitchen crew put together a hasty buffet. After placing the keg in a tub of ice, Billy quickly grabbed a rag and wiped off the casked-shaped tables.
Mihn hung a banner over the bar that read "Great show Cassius and Cletus" and made her way around the bar arranging the chair so there was plenty of room on the dancefloor.
Gideon dressed in his best loincloth and stood waiting patiently at the front entrance to greet and direct the guests. The massive Mul idly rubbed the starburst tattoo on his forehead as he pondered a night of drunken duelers and an even longer cleanup after.
Hopefully someone would show up for the free beer. If they didn't, he had a hell of a lot of drinking to do tonight.
Billy left excellent directions to the Dead Nicholas along with a little note:
To get to the Dead Nicholas, simply take the eastern road out three miles and take the first beaten path to the north. Drinks are free in celebration of Cletus and Cassius' excellent match. All are welcome.
Even Gnort.

Gunthar arrived shortly after the match had ended. As it turns out, he was the first of those attending the match to arrive. He greeted Gideon at the door, even gave him a small tip. As he entered, he new he would find Billy already half way smashed, and the bottle of Yukon he brought as a gift couldn't help. He moved in, admiring the banner for a brief moment before turning toward Billy.
"I brought ya a gift. It's an acquired taste... I am sure you will learn ta love it, though."
He winked and handed over the Yukon, he placed his cloak on a hanger, and on came the boos.

Billy sat reeling from the Yukon and Orctoberfest with Gunthar. He had a slightly sullen look on his face as he downed yet another tankard of the heady brew.
"Gunthar, that's the thanks I get fer showin' up at that stinkin' challenge match and offerin' up a free party afterwards. Not a damn one of them stinkin' good fer nothin's could spare the time it took ta' stop by and down a few in the spirit of the duels." He pounded his large hand several time on the depleted keg for emphasis.
Billy continued on blindly as Gunthar swayed in his seat, his tenth shot of Yukon resting forgotten in his hand. "Cashi.. Cashi...Sissius told me he'd come. He TOLD me he'd show up. I threw this damn thing in his and Cletus' honor and neither one of them freakin' stiffs could bother wastin' thier precious time."
Billy refilled his tankard and added a shot of Yukon to the mix as he rambled on. " Gnort's too good, Luppy's too good, the almighty freakin' Overlord's too good, Jesse Dissed me too. Jesse and Avery are supposed ta' be my teammates and they screwed me! Even Jona, who acts like she's a friend pulled a damn no show on me."
"Let me tell ya' somethin' Gunt, these pansey-assed whiners are always complainin' that I'm too mean, I'm too rude, that I don't give anyone a chance ta' break through my shell and be a friend. Well, I gave 'em all a chance and they didn't want it. So ya' know what I say? Screw them."
He stood up and began shaking his fist at the rafters. "Mark my words Gunthar, next time I see that waste of space Cassius, I'm gonna break his damn jaw. I can understand Gnort and Luppy bein' asses ta' me because they think they're a cut above us blue collar folk, but Avery and Jesse shoulda' known better. I'm through with both of em after this season of TDL. They ain't got time fer me, I certainly ain't gonna waste time on them."
Billy kicked a chair to splinters and Gideon moved reflexively to clean up, having expected this reaction when they dishonored his boss. Billy Obliviously continued with his tirade. " Jona? The only woman outside of Kappy I treat like family and she lies too me too. 'Sure Billy, I'll be there'. What a crock, I'm done with that woman too. Let her fend for herself since she doesn't give a damn."
Suddenly Billy seemed to deflate, his anger crumbling upon itself. "I tried Gunt, I tried. If none of them care ta' have me as a friend, then all I can think is that they want me as an enemy. So be it."
Billy and Gunthar did their best to kill the expensive keg off and do all the damage the could to Billy's supply of Yukon, but in the end they lost that battle.
As Billy sagged over the keg into slumber, Gideon could just make out what he said. "I tried to be their friend, I really tried, now it's too late."
The next morning Billy would realize the severity of what he had said, but by then the deed was done and he wouldn't change his mind on things.

After many drinks off the keg, likewise the bottle of Yukon, he sat there. Listening to Billy as he spoke, or at least trying to focus on him. He nodded now and again, but more so simply wanted to pass out. He figured Billy was as drunk as he, which he was, and was just over exaggerating. He babbled a few sentences in himself, but mostly it was Billy who spoke. After Billy finished, he laughed some,
filling up another cup of the brew.
"What's so funny?" Billy barked. Gunth sat up some, and leaned forward.
"Hey Billy, comer 'ere. Lemme tell ya a secret."
In his state of mind, who knows the seriousness of his words. As he enjoyed quite much TPX, as well as everything else.
"Whaddya say, that we start our own team after this year. We will call ourselves... umm... Big ol' people haters. Though I am a kinda a nice guy, but you could pick up the slack for me until I get meaner, right?" He laughed some, and started in once more on the keg, hoping to win the futile battle against the drink. And of course... they lost.

::The night was bitterly cold, even more so for the Roman. The hour was late, but he had been kept back by several duties at his estate...not the least of which was a very pregnant wife. He was looking forward to this keg party. Coming to the door, he sharply knocked:::

Restraint and loyalty were the qualities that William valued the most in Gideon, but the Mul found both those aspects strained this blustery night. He could well understand the owners anger and frustration, he himself could well empathize with the feelings of dishonor that William was feeling.
Gideon also saw that the boss was drunker than a Half-Elf on fermented Giths milk and just as prone to violence. So Gideon stood in his usual place, hidden behind the velvet drapes in his alcove, and watched for trouble to break out. This trouble, however, he watched from the owner, not any surely patrons.
Surprisingly, William seemed to have a firm grasp on his self control and only seemed intent on voicing his anger instead of openly displaying it and except for the single chair he stomped to splinters, William seemed to be winding down.
Gideon had been allowed to scan a few passages in William's diary and one point that always struck him was his boss' love of the institution of organized dueling and to a lesser extent, its patrons. Never one to reveal his feelings, except to the lady Kaprielle, William never commented orally on his sadness, instead he put his feelings to words as blunt as his speech.
Gideon was relieved, therefore, when Mrs. Starfare arrived, albeit late, to check upon William. "He pretty well done for the night Ma'am." Gideon told her without taking his eyes from the now dozing Karnafexx and Gunthar.
"Wouldst see 'im ta 'is bed, Gideon, an' if'n thee dinna mind, Ah shall stay ta night." She asked of him.
"I think I'll put them both to bed Mrs. Jonalyn. I'll see to this other before I bring William to his bedroom." The massive Mul said as he easily picked Gunthar up and placed him over his shoulder. "I'll put him in the state suite, I'm sure William would approve."
Gideon proceeded through the double doors and up the circular staircase to the rooms upstairs.

All he knew was that his head felt like a stubbed toe and his mouth felt like he was given CPR with a bag of cotton balls. He was a bit shocked he had passed out since his body was capable of leeching even the most deadly of poisons out of his system in short order.
He cracked open an eye that felt like it was cast in gritty sand and broken glass and looked at the clock above the bar. "I've been out for almost twenty-five minutes?" He said to the top of the Orctober-Fest keg, not expecting any meaningful reply.
He rolled his head, and what seemed like the beginning of a 250 pound "Gorilla on the brain" and noticed that Gunthar was gone. Remembering the state the man had been in a few minutes before, he figured Gideon had taken him up to bed. He prayed old Gunt didn't decide to recolor the sheets, but sometimes prices had to be paid.
He smelled her first, that faint, sweet fragrance that only seemed to belong to her. His smell was leaps and bounds above anything someone called "Normal" would have and he'd learned that everyone had their own particular scent. This was one that brought back pleasant memories from his past, a scent that he could smell every time he entered the arena.
"Well, Jona, I see you've caught me with my proverbial pants around my ankles." He was very angry with her but as he turned his head and located her sitting calmly at Siera's table, all anger fled from him like darkness before the morn. He thought of her as a second mother, a much better looking, well developed second mother, but a mother nonetheless.
He sat up and inelegantly wiped the drool from his mouth and ran a finger over the side of his face. The imprint of the keg was, for the time being, ingrained on his face, happily displaying the letters "ORCT" across his left cheek.
"Well, don't just sit there, let's have a cup of coffee, or give me a minute and we can start drinking some of that expensive wine you like. There's food on the banquet table and plenty of clean silverware." The anger over that fact tinged his words but they were no longer directed at her.
"Then we can talk about.." He started to say when the door swung open and Cassius strolled in. Billy slapped a big hand over his face and shook his head.
"You must be the ghost of hangovers present." He said to the Roman. "May as well close the door, I haven't lived in a barn for almost three years."
Suddenly coffee didn't seem like it would do the trick and Billy's eyes floated down to the unfinished keg of Jake's finest.
