G'nort,

I am an idiot because I desire to keep my privacy while holding a Baron's ring? I don't deserve a ring because I don't want Drakewyn, or anyone else, to know where I am whenever they wish?

A person does not forfeit their right to being individual, unwatched, unsupervised adults simply for winning a ring. Nor does a person abandon all rights to privacy because they won.

What if you disliked the Standings Keeper, G'nort? I didn't until now, but what if you did. Would you want him or her to be able to track you? I doubt it. No one would. Who wants to have their location known at will by a person you do not give permission to?

Maybe Zen is in hiding from an enemy in DoS. You don't know he didn't flee to hide. Now, we can find him because of Drake--as can said enemy. I doubt that's the case, but you get the idea.

The entire thought is disgusting. Any intelligent individual can see the error. These spells must be removed.

G'nort,

Perhaps thee aire nae aware of the dangers anna proximity to a spell may pose to various individuals and species. Perhaps thee simply blindly support annathing that Drakey Poo takes it into her addled head to do. Perhaps thee hae nae a care that were thee to bear the ring upon thine person that anna apprentice mage couldst easily craft a simple spell to find thee through the signature left by the spell placed upon thine Ring. Further, G'nort,
consider that thee hae bairns ast do others of the Barons. T'would be but the work 'o mere moments for an unscrupulous sorcerer to track thee to thine abode and perhaps place thee and thine loved ones in jeopardy. Certes thee may locate and perhaps hire a skilled mage to counter the tracing spell placed upon thine Ring. Yet for thee to find it 'idiotic' that a spell wast placed upon these artifacts ist of itself an' idiot' notion. Tis the Rings,
at least the Original Nine Rings were crafted by highly skilled artisans and mages. The magical properties inherent within the first Nine Rings be well known. Mind thee, the simplest and most apparent of those magical properties be the ability of the Rings to size themselves to the finger of each new Baron instantaneously.

Thee may consider Madame Silvertree a friend and capable ast certes be thine prerogative. Howe'er, to state that anna what take umbrage or eschew a desire to bear such a spelled artifact, or for that matter seek to hae the spell negated for the safety of their person or for the safety of their loved ones be little more than showing a callous disregard and perhaps ill thought out support for Madame Silvertree.

Were a ring to be 'stolen', G'nort, the onus wouldst fall upon the Baron to retrieve it. Madame Silvertree ast usual hast o'erstepped propriety. Madame Silvertree seems to believe herself omnipotent, a laughable premise. I hae oft seen that in those who are ill tutored in the adept arts. In fact, tis rather amusing in a certain way to read Madame Silvertree's statement, for in that she hast upon numerous occasions shown that she thinks herself to
be all powerful. Tis the oft seen first sign that an adept hast lost control of her talents and perhaps hast succumbed to the pull of the darker arts. Pride and arrogance oft go before the fall, G'nort. Madame Silvertree ist certes bloated with both. Mind thee that thee hae nae nigh her shouldst a pin prick puncture that inflated ego of hers.

M'Lord Var Medici-Giovanni,
If I am nae mistaken, thee were seated upon the Council when Zen Rising wast last removed from his title and his ring returned unto the Tourney Officials to be place in the Warlord's Tourney. The then Baron Zen Rising wast challenged by the warlord, Evan Faline. The Baron Zen Rising failed to answer said challenge, whereupon the Council of Barons didst strip him of Ring and title. The Baron G'nort Espelande G'neesmacher Talanador wast named by
that Council to meet the challenging warlord in combat. The Baron bested the challenger, Evan Faline, and the Fourth wast given over unto the Tourney.

Tis that since Madame Silvertree didst nae hold her current position at that time, she ist perhaps unaware of that precedent. Indeed, there yet be some that yet reside within the realms that didst sit upon that Council. Perhaps young Master Evermeadow might inquire of his father, the elder Master Evermeadow for the particulars since the elder Master Evermeadow wast at that time Supervisor of the sport. The matter wast at that time ne'er questioned
by the elder Master Evermeadow nor wast the Council's decision or for that matter wast the jurisdiction of the Council in the matter questioned.

Therefore, shouldst a challenger stand forth and throw the gauntlet seeking the Fourth Ring and title, and shouldst the 'vanished' Baron Zen Rising fail to answer the challenge, the matter wouldst indeed come before the Council.

Madame Silvertree hast oft declaimed her extensive knowledge of the histories, tis rather odd with all that self proclaimed so called knowledge, she wouldst nae be aware of this historical and well documented event.

You're assuming that the Standings Keeper would freely and easily give out the location to anyone. She has not told anyone where the ring is, just that she can get it if need be via tracing spell. If I were the least bit worried about that being the case, I probably still wouldn't care.

The tracing spell is on the location of the Ring, not the Baron.

>Maybe Zen is in hiding from an enemy in DoS. You don't know he didn't flee to

Sure, I get the idea, but also, I know that Drake wouldn't give the location out to anyone, I doubt even me. So I am not worried about that at all.

Drake, indeed, does have a tracing spell placed on my Son, Locke Cyan. It was placed on him after he was kidnapped some time ago, and for the main reason of when he was kidnapped, I had no knowledge of how or where to look for him. Thankfully, I won't have to worry about that ever again. I have Drake to thank for that protection on my son, and noone else offered to do anything similar for me in that way.

> Yet for thee to find it 'idiotic' that a spell wast placed upon these

I don't find it Idiotic that a spell was placed on these rings, I find it idiotic that you're all arguing over it like it was an attempted murder or something. Frankly, the spells are on there to protect the rings from being lost. There is absolutely no harm in that save that you don't like Drake, so you're using this as another reason to attack her.

If you're afraid for your loved ones, perhaps you shouldn't be in so public a place without protection, eh? By being in so public an office, you're placing yourself and those around you in peril, if someone is after you, by being in the spotlight.

> Madame Silvertree seems to believe herself omnipotent, a laughable premise.

I can disspell that for you. She doesn't think of herself that way.

>Tis the oft seen first sign that an adept hast lost control of her talents
>and perhaps hast succumbed to the pull of the darker arts.

I trust her talents, and can confirm with accuracy that she has control of her talents, and is not a person who has succumbed to the darker side. She is as accurate with her powers as I'd say you are. Of course, you'll deny that. But I trust in her talents as much as I trust in yours.

As to this Zen incident, if you want my opinion, The Ring cannot be voted Vacant by the Barons Council. It is not up to use to decide on that. The only exception is if Someone Challenges Zen, and he fails to answer. Then it falls to us.

Please refresh my memory, Jona, but did Zen at least have a chance to respond to the challenge?
In either case, I did forget about the last challenge, and I misread some of the suggestions where I believed people wanted someone to challenge Zen just to get a forfeit and a new baron. My fault for misreading the meaning.

M'Lord Var Medici-Giovanni,

The Baron Zen Rising simply failed to respond to the challenge in anna manner whatsoever. If I am nae mistaken, when he didst finally return he placed a missive upon this very cork explaining his absence.

Ast to the question of annaone issuing challenge unto the 'vanished' Baron, considering his past history of 'disappearances", I for one, wouldst nae find anna challenge laid upon the Baron of the Fourth ast being dishonorable shouldst one chose to stand forth. Tis been stated there be nae dishonorable challenges, only dishonourable challengers. The 'vanished" baron hast thrice now shown himself to be remiss in his duties ast holder of the Fourth
Ring. Once, perhaps excusable. Twice, perhaps reason to consider, but thrice? What dost the 'vanished' Baron's behavior say unto the rising warlords or for that matter for the honor of this ancient sport?

G'nort,

Well and good that thee relied on Madame Silvertree for such a simple spell to be placed upon thine son. I shall presume thee granted her permission to perform the casting and that she did nae do it without thine leave. That dost nae seem to be quite the case with respect to the Rings.

Considering in all the history of the Rings, nae a one hast been 'lost' and also considering that those unto whom the Rings are granted are skilled in bladework, nae to mention none hae been known to be prone to leaving the rings untended, Madame Silvertree's unilateral action to place such a simple spell upon them speaks rather loudly of her perhaps considering the Barons ast being completely unable to see to the care of those artifacts. Madame
Silvertree, I shall remind thee, is nae responsible for the Rings. That ist ne'er part of her duties.

Ast to nae frequenting public places, G'nort, be thee insinuating that those who do bear the Rings shouldst, being skilled warriors, hide? What a foolish notion, G'nort. Ast foolish a notion ast Madame Silvertree thinking she hast the right to do ast she pleases with respect to the Rings.

Ast to yuir attempt to dispell me of the notion that Madame Silvertree dost nae seem to believe herself to be omnipotent, thee hae failed. She hast more oft than I care to count attempted to convince the gullible of her powers. Much to mine amusement, she could nae discern the simplest of spells used by me to control mine own blades.

Thee may be willing to trust her talents, I for one, find them laughably inept.

G'nort,

Even if the Barons' and their rings are kept secret, she still knows where they are, without their permission. That is bad.

The most amazing part of this is that, had I not placed the information upon this board, only the few I've told would know of these tracing spells.

The magick of Dragons is quite different from the magic of humans and elves. It would take a lifetime to explain the differences... and anyone who claims extensive knowledge of Draconic magick without being of Draconic heritage is simply deluding thereself. Dragons do not use magick, Dragons are magick.
A tracing spell is just that, a way to trace something or someone. It is not something that is active at all times. Believe me, I certainly would not wish to constantly be aware of the locations of all the people and things I've placed tracing spells upon.

Can anyone tell me how the 4th was retrieved when Shade failed to show in answer to Phlag's challenge, since he was gone for nearly ten months without a trace?
Or how, as it is stated in the Baronial histories, the DoS officials claimed the 4th after Phlag disappeared for nearly a year?
Or how the 4th was recovered when Zen vanished before the challenge from Evan Faline?
And what of the 5th? How was it recovered from the vanished Juan Sanchez Villalobos Ramirez?
And how was the 7th recovered from the vanished Ulath Fici to be won by Dirk Random? The histories clearly detail what Dirk did with the 7th... but again, that is one of the very few incidents explained.
There is another incident which involve the 8th Ring and Ulath Fici... again, no mention is made of how the Ring was recovered.

Until you can explain how, beyond some Divine Fiat, the Rings have been recovered when their holders have gone missing... I see no reason not to trust in a more tangible and realistic method.

As for the whereabouts of Baron Rising and the 4th Ring... at this time I have no idea where he is. It has not been nessasary for me to locate him, so I have not bothered to do so. Once it becomes required, I will do so.

Madame Silvertree,

The most amazing thing be that thee seem to believe hae thee nae made comment upon this cork that what thee hae done wast known only by a few. What be e'en more amazing ist yuir apparent lack of knowledge about the magic inherent in the Rings themselves.

Further, Madame, thou art verra mistaken in asserting that draconic magic canst only be understood by those of draconic heritage, though certes thee aire free to believe ast thee wish. Nay only be there extensive tomes extant containing all information about the myriad species, anna reasonably intelligent apprentice mage would learn such information before e'en becoming an adept from e'en a modestly talented mage.

If thee hae a yen to know annathing with regard to the matter of Shade's handling of the ring, the gentleman ist known to visit the basement upon occasion, tis a simply matter to inquire of him, shouldst thee wish.

Ast to yuir further queries, Madame, the archives at Arda Castle are replete with the information. Though thine source be only the histories, and ast most be well aware, those histories dinna contain all that happened during each Baron's reign, mine scribes hae managed a more extensive documentation of the past history of all the original Nine Rings and of those that bore those Rings.

Indeed, the ancient cork itself contains various tales answering thine queries, Madame, perhaps thee shouldst peruse it.

There are yet extant within the realms those who hae direct dealings with the gentlemen thee name, including but nae limited to the one who didst look after Ulath Fici's ring.

Anna what truly understand the magic inherent within the Rings themselves wouldst understand that the simple ability of the magic crafted within the Rings dost prevent their utter and permanent disappearance or complete destruction though nae dost that magic prevent the desecration of a ring.

Thine willingness to insist that thee were required to place a tracing spell upon the Rings to see to their safety ist yet another example of one who truly hast nae understanding of the true nature of the Baronial Rings or the magics crafted within those artifacts. How amusing, Madame, for did thee nae in fact hold possession of one of the rings, albeit one of the Later Four? Didst thee nae during thine possession of the Ring study the magic
inherently crafted within? Perhaps thine draconic half's inborn magics prevented thee from discerning the true nature of a magic within? Or perhaps thee aire blinded by thine bloated ego and truly believe thine paltry skills be required to see to the safekeeping of those artifacts. Madame, anna truly talented mage wouldst certes nae be in the least concerned that the Rings hae been so poorly crafted ast to nae hae been ensorcelled properly.

::laughs as he reads the boards::

It is a tracing spell on the Barons rings not a peeping spell on the Barons. The only reason it should scare you, having a tracing spell is on the rings is if you are trying to steal, copy, sell or get ride of the ring.
I have to agree with G'nort you dont deserve to wear the ring If you dont like the spell.

"I have to agree with G'nort you dont deserve to wear the ring If you dont like the spell."

Sorry Zafiroo and G'nort, but I don't like a "tracing" spell, either from Drake or some other entity as Jona noted earlier, on the ring. If I wanted to go to some private place where I can spend a week or two with my wife and children, I don't want my location to just "pop-up" somewhere.

I still think that putting on some ward upon the rings, like the ward of Gondar in the effect that damage cannot be incurred, would be something useful. I don't like the idea of a tracing spell, though, I don't care who does it.

Once again, I'm not a Baron, and not likely to ever become one... so my thoughts could be seen by most as invalid on this topic.

Anywho.... here it goes.......

In the Elfin Magic of my people a tracing spell doesn't give you the ability to see what another person is doing, or hear what another person is saying. It does, however locate them for you. The further you are from them (or in this case the Baronial Ring) the more general the *signal*, for want of a better term. As you follow the signal nearer to the spelled object the signal becomes clearer and more specific as to the location.

Now that I've explained my concepts of a tracing spell (which I hope Drake with correct if it is not the same as her tracing spell), I'd like to say that knowing that Drake is unable to watch or listen to me were I so fortunate to be graced with a Baronial Ring, it would give me comfort to know that should something untoward occur and I were unable to return to RhyDin, that the Ring could be recovered and continue as a symbol within the Duels.

Just a thought.......

That is amazing. The fact that you'd been locating Barons is secret this whole time is amazing, not to mention disturbing. The Barons were unwittingly offering their location to you without any knowledge that they were doing so. I suppose you see no problem with this.

I'm not nearly articulate enough to express my disgust over this. An individual deciding on their own to alter our, DoS', rings and keep it secret is one of the most devious acts ever committed here. It's impossible for me to understand how any rational person can think her in the right.
