A little present from the Scribe

A note is tacked up next to an ancient parchment on the boards. The well worn paper has been exhaustively copied to look like the origional that Algernon the scribe found while doing research with Mrs. Starfare. Written on the note is a brief message to the community.

Dear people,

I would like to thank the fair Jonalyn Starfare for her help in uncovering a valueble piece of our dueling history. It is one of the oldest known Duel of Swords standings that I have ever had the priveledge to come across. Naturally I could not post the origional because it's value is beyond measure to myself and those of us that crave the old. I have taken the liberty to highlight some of the more interesting and/or memorable duelers.

What's the signifigance of certain names being in bold type? I can't tell if it's those who later became Warlords, or officials, or what. Can you explain?

Answer:

Well G'nort, by what I can see, the highlighted names are generally of those who were very active in the politics of the Duel of Swords at the time and since that time.
Many of those names I've heard from people saying they knew stories of them... personally, I'd like to read the stories rather than the Standings.

In an aside, the Office of the Standing's Keeper has the original, non-posted version of this and many other Standings besides. There are also kept viewing copies of these records for distribution, should anyone request.
I would also like to reiterate a statement I made when I first became the Standing's Keeper. Should anyone wish copies of the Standings delivered to them when they are finished... and often before they are posted... simply leave a note in my box with your name.

I sense a bit of dislike in the tone of the current standings keepers letter, I pray that is mistaken. To remedy this I am working furiously with Lady Starfare on copying another rare text we have uncovered that may help to satisfy even the bland palate of Lady Drakewyn.

I will soon present to you all, with the most admirable help of Lady Starfare, the story of Siera Redwin's quest for freedom from Gondar. A duel and story of truly epic proportions.

Dislike? Hmmmm..... Odd, I don't sense that at all. What I do sense, however, is that she's got not quite the bland palette mentioned, and by her own words would rather hear some of the tales of adventure that make up the history of this place, as I'm sure most of us would.

I think maybe you're just being far too sensitive in being told that what you dug up is something that, not only does the Office of the Standing's Keeper have available to any that wish it, but that it's availability has been mentioned before. Knowing that makes it not quite the prize you had hoped for.

Agreed. I sense no dislike in Drake's post in the least, merely a mention that she has similiar old standings and is willing to share them with the Community, just as you have done. I don't see why there needs to be a competition here.

Hey, to be totally honest,

I'd like to see both standings and stories. After all, Stories are what we use to teach the newer people of the past and the history the Arena has, and the standings are good to show where these people we're reading about were placed in rank.

So, why not just make it a joint effort? I sensed no dislike from Drake, and I think both can do something good in this respect. So, let's see what can happen from here?

Can't we all just get along? :)

Should the Scribe or any patron seek "stories" related to our beloved sport, I would be happy to supply what I can, based upon those I collected while writing for the now-defunct "DoS Today" magazine. Included in that collection is the tale of Siera's enslavement by Gondar, told in Redwin's own words. If Master Algernon can use the information, I am happy to supply it to him.

That would have to have been before Goldendust was standings keeper, so I know you're not upbraiding Drake for not placing them on the cork. It certainly couldn't be expected of her to do something that the one training her so long ago didn't do either.

Indeed, I did not realize that it was my DoS Today story that you were originally referring to. Hence, my offer was only to compare notes and perhaps fill in details regarding Siera's enslavement.

Since Jona has already supplied you with a copy, then there is nothing more I can add.
