Year of the Gauntlet
I am beginning a new journal on this day having finally reached a town. It was necessary for me to inquire of the date and year from the shopkeeper where I bartered for this journal. It cost me two rabbit hides and my leather breast plate. I traded one of my swords for some used clothing and what was left of my armor for some foodstuffs. The people here are civil, but I was asked to leave when I finished conducting my business. I learned that I am
in Dalath, that would mean I awoke in Methwood, a few days north and west of here. A watch is coming, I must go now.
I suppose I should begin by recounting the last few days. The following entries are back-dated based on the information I received in Dalath.

Year of the Gauntlet
I awake deep in the middle of a dense forest. My memory of recent past events is non-existent. I know not the day, month, or year. I am dressed in a white burial robe and laying on a large flat rock. I know not how I got here. There is a feeling of someone watching me. My skin is as white as these robes I am wearing, there is a small protrusion from my left eye that I know nothing about. My right arm, which ten years ago was reformed by magic from
stone, is now metal of some unknown origin.
At my feet rests a suit of leather armor, boots, and a pair of short, dual edged blades. As I stand to dress it occurs to me, this is not my body. The armor is badly damaged, I do not think it would aid me should an attack come. I put it on anyway, it’s better than walking around in burial robes. There are no marks on my body where the armor is stained with blood, but it fits too well to have belonged to any other.
My vision seems to be enhanced and I can only assume that this protrusion has something to do with that. There are some berries on a nearby bush. They appear edible so I eat a few. Being very careful, I make a fire as the sun sets. Tomorrow I shall start out of this forest.

Year of the Gauntlet
When I awoke this morning, I found two rabbits already skinned and slowly cooking over my fire. I knew someone was watching me. I can’t see anyone, or detect any heat patterns. I offer a small thanks to Tymora for my apparent good fortune, and to Mielikki, the Lady of the Forest, for keeping me safe. Seeing mountains in the distance to the north, I decide to head due south till I find a trail.

Year of the Gauntlet
It took me more than a day just to leave the forest. I must have been near the northern end. The woods were home to some benevolent Sylvan creatures. Although I never saw one, there was a strong feeling of peace and love there. I finally came upon a small trail. It travels in a northeasterly direction. I can see mountains to the east and west. I’ll follow the trail that skirts the woods I just left.

Year of the Gauntlet
I encountered some farmers today. A town must be close. The farmers all ran inside barring doors and windows at the sight of me. I tried asking one farmer for permission to drink from his well. When he didn’t answer, I assumed he did not speak my language. As I was bringing up a pail of water, he came at me with a halberd, cursing in a language I could barely recognize. It was common, but with a southern accent. Not wanting trouble, I continued on
east towards town.

Year of the Gauntlet
I arrived in town today. I am not surprised to find a watch posted at the edge of this small town. One of the farmers must have sent word about me ahead. I wish I had my former body back. He is waiting for me. The watch stops me and asks me my name and business. I tell him I am Jordan Nykel of Escalant, and that I am trying to make my way home. He lets me pass but tells me I must leave as soon as I am done restocking my supplies.
I have no coin, but luckily I can barter here. The guard from the road is following me. He makes no effort to hide his distrust of me. I make a few inquires while I barter. I now have a few days supplies and clothing. I learned that the Sahuagin Sea is due east of here. If I traveled due north I would end up at Mt. Thulbane, a mountain visible across the Inner Sea from Escalant.

Since I’ve no way of knowing how long this small journal will have to last me, I have left the year’s name off of my entries. I still can’t believe it’s 11 years since the gods walked the Realms. That would make it 1369DR if I were still using the Dale Reckoning calendar. The Time of Troubles changed many things though and I prefer the Present Reckoning but enjoy the nostalgia of having named years.
I have decided to head Northeast till I hit the coast. The shop keep was kind enough, or was he scared, to draw me a rough map. In Shusset I might be able to stow-away on a trade ship, perhaps I can hire on as a sell sword. I still have the skill. I just want to return to my Tobi Ann. I wonder if she’ll take me this way. I wonder if I’ll be able to get my job back at the Black Boar Inn.
FlameRule 25, 11PR
Three days of travel and I encountered not a soul. I had always heard that Unther was a peaceful land, now I know it to be true. There was a strange light and noise overhead last night. It appeared in the sky to the west of here. It was like a falling star. Tomorrow I’ll go investigate.

The noise and lights happened again several times during the night. It must have been an optical illusion but, a few times I thought the falling stars were returning to the sky. I have stopped for lunch, the last of my supplies, and can see a few buildings in the distance. It will take me till dark to reach them.
I saw one of the "stars" falling today. It was a ship of some sort. I wonder if this is a base of operations for one of those pirate races rumored to live among the stars. I believe they are called the "Gith". They posses a magic known as ‘Spell Jamming’ which allows them to Plane Shift an entire vessel and it’s crew.
FlameRule 27, 11PR
When I reached the settlement late last eve, a few very odd things happened. First was the sign at the road house. "The Stars End Bar MXV" "Doorway to the Multi verse". Curious I entered. It looked more like a bazaar then a bar. There was a bar though and the drinks were free to ‘travelers’. I’m a traveler so I partook of all the freebies offered to me. There are signs all over prohibiting any ‘display of power’ and ‘bearing steel’. I
can see why. This place is a melting pot of races. Evil and goodly races work side by side with some races I have never encountered before.
The second weird thing was the Illithid in the bar. He practically ran when he saw me enter. Maybe it was just coincidence, but he left his food untouched. And the weirdest thing was an encounter with a strange blue man. As I wandered around the bazaar area, I found a tent labeled "Arcane’s Majiks" I entered and a tall, lanky man greeted me. He spoke as if he knew me. "Greetings Lord Daemon. We trust you received ‘Diamond’ safely." Then he
studied me for a minute. "You did send to us for your sword did you not?"
I told him I didn’t know what he was talking about. He asked me to excuse them for a moment, and I took that moment to leave. He always spoke in plural but there was only one of him that I could see. A lot to think about today. I will go back there and speak with him/them some more. I must be in Lord Daemon’s body.

I went back to see Arcane today. He, they, were very apologetic. The first thing he did was produce a large sac of platinum bars. "We are most sorry that your sword fell into the hands of another. We have sent a man to reclaim the item. In return we have decided to give you the price that was paid for the blade. In that sac are 6 platinum bars each worth 2000 gold pieces." My jaw was agape.
Twelve thousand gold pieces. That’s more money then I ever had at one time. "Arcane, can I use these bars here?" My eyes were going over all the weapons and armor on display.
"Although we prefer to trade Lord Daemon, for you we will make the exception. We see you are without your blades and armor. Please feel free to search about. Any specialty item you require can normally be acquired in 3- 5 days at a 15% surcharge."
I walked the small tent noting a few items of interest. "Arcane, you seem to know me quite well. Rather than go through the trouble of trying to decide what I want, why don’t you pick out a suit of armor, some sort of blade, mayhaps a cloak or magical boots. Just leave me enough coin to get home."
"We don’t understand, but we will do as you asked. Would you like me to secure passage home for you as well?" I nodded "That would be great." I said.
"How much coin do you wish to have left?"
"How about 50 platinum pieces. Spend the rest. I’ll be back in a short while. After lunch I returned to Arcane’s tent. Arcane ushered me into a large changing room that must have been located outside the normal realm. On the settee there rested a suit of fine chain mail armor, a pair of breeches, a soft shift, and a gray cloak with matching boots. There was a weapons rack containing two dual edged short swords.
I think to myself that unlike the real ‘Lord Daemon’, I’m not as comfortable with two swords and no shield. "Arcane, I’ve got a favor to ask. Could you bring me a shield and long sword instead of those two blades?"
"We have never seen you with just one weapon, but we shall do as you ask."
After Arcane left, I stripped and slipped on the shift and breeches. I was fitting the armor when he returned with a finely crafted medium shield and a long sword, a bastard sword and a dagger in his scrawny arms. "Much better" I exclaimed. Taking the bundle from his arms I felt like I was in a dream. "I’ll take them both," indicating the swords as I wrapped them in the cloak. I slipped into the boots and placed the dagger in the left boot.
Arcane’s blue head tilted and so I moved it to the right boot instead.
He tossed me a small coin purse, the weight felt right. "Fifty platinum" he said. "Your ship leaves tomorrow at sunset."
"Thanks Arcane." I left the shop heading straight to the inn. It would feel so wonderful to have a bath and a bed. Who knows what tomorrow brings. . .

After a bath and a good night’s sleep I felt ready to take on the world. When I looked in the mirror, uncertainty washed over me. What kind of welcome would I receive in Escalant? What has happened to my memories of recent events? How did I come to awake in another man’s body?
I pulled the tassel that would summon the serving girl. Maybe a meal before I set out would help me relax. I had all day to wander the bazaar. After eating and dressing I did feel a little better. I placed both swords in their sheaths and tied yellow ‘peace knots’ to each hilt. Remembering the way Arcane had tilted his head, I tucked the dagger in my right boot anyway. "You are NOT Lord Daemon" I said to myself.
After settling the tab at the Inn, I decided to make a few more changes to Lord Daemon’s appearance. First stop would be the woman I saw yesterday giving hair cuts and shaves. By the time she finished Lord Daemon’s long flowing white hair was nothing but a long braided top knot. I would still need to doing something about my eye but that could wait until I was home again. Maybe whatever had been done could be undone.
It wasn’t difficult to find the "Harbor Master" but when I told him I was Jordan Nykel of Escalant he told me I was not on his list. Of course, Arcane had made the arrangements believing I was Lord Daemon. Sneaking a peek at the harbor master’s list I learned my new last name was Satyriasis. ‘Lord Daemon Satyriasis’ funny, I don’t like the sound of that. One of the crewmen saw me approaching and ran the other way. I used to be an
adventurer, and as the ship begins to leave I can’t help but wonder how this adventure will turn out.
