Challenge Me.

Now that I officially screwed myself for challenging the rest of this cycle, or so she says, I need a stupid challenge. I know there is a million of you guys out there that want me off the friggin' council - That's neat. Do something. I can't use intercession, i'm Renegade. I don't have enough stuff to back me up like Jesse does, but I couldn't give a hell, come and get me. You can halt me from challenging Avery next
cycle, which I'll be challenging the first day - Unless I get the peer wins by then.
And please, if you challenge me, show me a little more acknowledgement and courtesy than that moron Taylara did. Don't go over to the ropes and play kissy with your second during the match, don't acknowledge anyone outside the ring, and don't accuse your challenger that you looked for an easy challenge. To tell you the truth, I sure as hell didn't look for an easy challenge, and I sure as hell didn't look for an opponent to yack to fellow patrons
during a challenge match. Maybe I should have made her sign a contract not to friggin' talk during my match, I don't know. And back to that easy challenge crap; how much more idiotic can you get as a stinkin' Baron like Taylara? She could have easily said the same thing to anyone else that challenged her. I didn't expect her to whine during the match.
Now, there is something that bothers me... I think it happened to Magnus, I'm not sure. I have the ring. I challenged. It was invalid. Why? Because it wasn't written on the standings that I am officially a Baron. Officially? Let's discuss that a moment. Officially, I beat Taylara practically senseless. Officially, she gave me the ring, in which, I stuck on my finger. Officially, she left the ring without a ring on her finger. Officially, I declared
Renegade. Officially, 6 rounds were called and the match ended 5-0 me. Officially, it was written on these boards there has been a new Baron - Me. Officially, the new Baron of the Thirteenth. Officially declared by Simini, the Hostess. And everything is supposedly unofficial, since it wasn't written on Drake's standings. If anything was anymore dumb, I don't know what is.
Challenge me, don't talk to anyone else in the ring, and let's brawl. I'm in the mood to bash someone in the head.
Challenge me.

No baron should be an easy challenge.
Besides, the idea itself is an oxymoron.

For the record,
I am pretty sure I never had an invalid challenge. You might be thinking of Cletus' challenge to Dalamar.
Oh, I'll challenge you.

> how much more idiotic can you get as a stinkin' Baron
Well, having received word about what you did, I would say you came pretty close. These are the rules we live by, and yet you went ahead and broke them.
Many know that I took the title of Overlord, because I felt I could represent the community with both skill, and honor. Something said before many a duel. I cherish the histories, and the rules, and the people that make up this sport. I know Drey will be coming for me next cycle, but, after this last showing I wonder if he is suited for the position.
Also, to help you out Drey, you will not be able to challenge me on the first day. I will have to defeat the WLT champion first. Then you will be able to, but please make sure the standings are out. I would hate to see you make another "Idiotic" mistake.

Cas, it's not your place to start a discussion among the council on that matter. I am quite sure that either Val or Drake has handled this situation and nothing more needs to be done with it.

Well, Drey, since you asked...
I can think of many idiotic things a baron can do. Challenging when it wasn't officially posted in the standings is one way, when it's been clearly established in previous cases that a challenge isn't considered complete until posted in the standings (I cite Cletus' challenge to Dal, who was denied the right of challenge when he challenged the day after Dal defended the overlord title and the results wasn't posted in the standings).
Breaking a baron's ring also comes to mind as being quite idiotic. I don't know how that makes you feel, considering your act of idiocy being compared to someone else who shall remain nameless.
Just a side question, though. Did someone happen to urinate in your oatmeal? You seem quite bitter, but that's just me.
I wasn't there to watch the challenge, but if someone keeps going to the side to kiss his/her second, lady/lord of honor, dog/cat, whatever, that's just inconsideration, it's not idiocy.
On a final note, Cas... what makes you think we have the power to just toss Drey off the council? Drake has already invalidated Drey's challenge, meaning he can't challenge for the rest of the cycle. The last thing I want to see to counter this idiocy is another act of idiocy by abusing power. There are plenty of worse things a baron has done, and in my opinion, Drey's actions have no call for any further official penalizing.
Shall we also disallow Tay from challenging because she was, according to Drey, flirting/kissing her second during the match? Or shall we make your challenge to Xeric invalid because you planned on suggesting to throw him off the council? Shall I be thrown off the council for making these stupid suggestions?
I hope you really don't plan on abusing your power in that regard, Cas.

"I can think of many idiotic things a baron can do. Challenging when it wasn't officially posted in the standings is one way,"
Yes, I realized I made a mistake. Right when I was going to bed after sending off my letter, I realized it, actually. I was furious that night about something. I'm still furious.
I didn't think about Cletus' when he couldn't challenge. I wasn't thinking.
I was mad, and still am.

The people that make up the sport? You mean, the people you think you're better than. "I'm the most powerful man in Rhydin," you said once. I want to break that long snout on your face, if you can even call it a face.

It had been quite some time since the old soldier had dared to show his proverbial face on the message boards... A lot of water under the bridge, a great many title-holders come and gone.
Kurgan hated to stir the pot, and hated even more to single out volatile characters for conversation in the posts... They invariably grew ever-more incensed.
Still, it was a matter of simple honour to him; the only kind that seemed to remain after so many years.
------------------------
Baron Starke,
While it may be that the present Overlord has demonstrated hubris to you in a manner he has never shown to me, your note regarding the Overlord considering himself better than the rest of the duelists in DoS seems... Ill-considered.
The Overlord is, by definition, titled as the supreme duelist of the sport. There have been cases through the years that duelists have achieved the rank of Overlord and been considered either unworthy or perhaps simply less worthy than other duelists not ranked so high... From what I have seen, however, our present Overlord is a stunningly talented duelist.
I would consider him entirely within his rights to consider his position as Overlord to mark him at the top of our sport. Indeed, as Overlord and Diamond and Archmage, he is well-qualified to consider himself the most powerful duelist within all the dueling rings.
Still and all, perhaps my remarks are hopeless. You resort to brashest, basest schoolyard insults in the same breath as you offer what might have been reasonable dialogue.
If your sole purpose is libel, by all means go about your business and ignore my reproach.
Respectfully,
Fandral Kurgan

For the record, if anybody cares, historically the powers/priveleges of Baronies and Overlordships have almost always (I use the word "almost" solely because of 1 past instance where the coordinator at the time made a horribly erroneous judgement) been passed on as soon as the rings or "crown" change hands. Given that fact, Drey's challenge should not be declared in valid.
1) Athlstan interceded for Ajay after becoming Overlord for the 2nd time, yet before it had been officially recognized in the standings.
2) On atleast one, possibly more, occasions... people who were registered in the Warlord Tournament and then won a Baronial Ring shortly before the tourney were denied access, even though they were still "officially" Warlords. Why? Because they actually become Barons the second the ring changes hands. Just as Drey actually became a Baron (and thus deserves all the according priveleges) as soon as he took the ring from Taylara.
3) New Barons will frequently duel in the arena after securing the title and before it comes official. How many "fancy" maneuvers do they get to use? Why, five of course. The reasoning behind that: They're Barons, since they have the ring. Yet another example of why this ruling is absurd.
That fact is that precedent is largely in favor of Drey. The one opposite instance, when Seamus interceded for Marzan when he challenged Dalamar, caused a large uproar among people that knew the way precedent had been set in the past. That one decision could be termed a "rogue decision." It's the exception, not the rule.
Also, just to avoid this line of counter argument, the instance involving Cletus's challenge to Dalamar is irrelevant, as are any similar happenings. Whether or not a title holder is open to challenge until the previous challenge is made "official" has *nothing* to do with a discussion about when a Baron should be able to use the full powers/priveleges of their station. This situation and Cletus's situation are totally different. Cletus's challenge
should have been invalid, Drey's should not.
As I said before, Drey should get his challenge. Anything else is just excessive unfairness on the part of the people in charge of this place.

Lord Kurgan,
While I agree with practically your whole post, Avery said the most powerful man in "Rhydin."
Now, I don't even agree with the definition of "Supreme Duelist of DoS." If anything, he just had a single good night where he bashed someones' head in. I agree, he's a stunningly talented duelist, and during his frequent wallowings in the thoughts of being the Surpreme Duelist of the DoS, the DoF, and the DoM, I'd like to challenge not only him, but his beliefs.

The case involving the situation of the WLT is still different. Because there is nothing within the rules about it. But here we have an obviously written clause. That the results are not final until written. The WLT fits into this blended line of the rules we have. Is it feasible to have a Warlord who has won a barony compete for another ring? No, but the blurry line we have can be crossed. Is it possible for someone to
challenge before there results are posted. No, of course not, the rules clearly state this part. There is no confusion. There is no, "but." As in, but I am still a WL so I should be in the tourney. It is the "But" That gets us in trouble.
As for your first example, I can only see that as a mistake made by the officials of the time. I for one have never used my gained skill until it was shown I could. Should the person who makes Grandmaster immediately be able to use his skill? No, they have to wait. If Barons do slip through the cracks like this, then it is both their faults, and the officials at the time.
And Drey, I will correct you again. I never said I was the most powerful man in Rhydin. Further I have never said I was the best, mage, weapons expert, or fist fighter. I think in each venue with the exception of one maybe, that there are people that can exceed my skill. I have not had the time on this world to fully realize my capability. Also, anyone that knows me would know I would never describe myself as a man. More a boy, kid, a teen. No reason
to make myself older than I am. I will admit, that those close to me have said I have grown a bigger head as of late. Of course, I am the Diarchmage, and I think that is good enough reason. I am the supreme dueler of the three venues. I have proven myself, I have reached the top. So my new founded ego does have some validity to it. Of course, I still think that hanging out with Jesse is rubbing of on me.
