Intent to Challenge
From: spikushell@aol.com (Spikushell)

Her mind made up, wishes of others pushed to the forefront, especially the one dearest to her frail elven heart. A dream it may have been but she knew their bond to be different. Dreams made real, too real. She knew he was there. As the earthy scents from Tass' garden had permeated the air of the eve, a restlessness overtook her senses enough to stir her from a troubled sleep. A simple statement. That was what she
remembered. All through the past few days it had weighed heavily on her mind. Her missive never answered. Ballentyne out of reach was cause for mild alarm on her part but the dream quelled all desires to ride out to investigate. Vivid the recollection of the misty veil in her room, he foretold the scene tonight. Damn! He knew. Her sight withdrawn from Zafiroo, as was his wish, though she could not understand why. He foretold that also. With a single
hesitation, she paused before the boards. Feeling the headiness repeat itself as it had done in the Arena, she knew his words, no, she felt the words he sent to her. It's your time. A simple statement made all the more clearer after the evenings events had come to a close. A confusion spread blithely around her senses. Zaf had swore he would never have anyone to fight his battles, then his request she withdraw the aid willingly given. Then the
Overlord stepping in. It was too much to think on. But then it was as he foretold to her. Then the counterpoint struck home by his mist veiled statement as Cletus had put the rest of it in motion. And so, it may be her time....as foretold to be, it had to many unchallengeable feelings to push to the back. But still it wasnt all clear. She knew he wished something from her but what? Her minds eye still couldnt resolve the last issue he had shown her.
Why couldnt he ever be clear when he attempted to do this. As fleeting as one image flowed to another the last image she had seen as she had left the Arena. A fist upraised..not in mocking but a feeling of strength. A missive sent earlier still had not been returned. Possibly the answer. She laughed softly as she pondered the time when she would give AJay the thrashing he deserved for setting her feet to this path. It was not one she willingly chose
but as he had said, the test is come.
Her time had come.
With a firm hand she pushed the dagger into the cork, upholding the missive she steadily held before it.
It is within my time to deal with things pushed into my mind. I will have nae rest till my dealings are done here. Namely I propose to challenge the Renegade Baron of the Second Ring, Cletus Gandarfald. It is nae with malice that I set this challenge in motion. Namely he retains the ring of my dearest friend AJaybird. Steadfast I was to stand as his second the tenure of his reign. I had no intent to challenge until he stepped in against Zafiroo. I
have heard tales of Cletus being a crass man. That I have nae an opinion on for I do not personally know the man and we have never crossed words. Personally all of the Barons who are begging to be challenged not only appalls me but disgusts me as well. Where is the honor in begging. I just cant see it. I am sure to be faulted in any attempt to explain meself, so I will mince words nae longer. Baron, the gauntlet has been laid before ye to bear
witness to. My peer wins have been sent by missive to those involved. I have nae a desire to flaunt any wins I have gained as many have done before. If any find fault to my challenge, then bring your blade to seek me out.

Spike has the guts and heart to win, and probably deserves to win. Cletus is probably the better duelist. Still, that doesn't always make a difference in the end.
Win, Spike.

I thank Spike for bringing forth an honorable challenge and very much look forward to meeting her in the ring. And we've agreed to do that one week from tommorow, May the third. The match shall commence at half past the nine o'clock hour (est). I have secured the charming Alexandria Wells to watch Spike and I cut each other up, and I hope to see many in attendance, even if it's just to cheer for blood, or to laugh at me if I trip on the way to the
ring.
My particulars will be announced the night of the challenge.
Duel well, Spike.
Cletus Ganderfald
Baron of the 2nd
p.s. To Numbers, what are my odds?
