Stances and Policies of the Overlord

Community,

I have something to say to all, and it should take awhile. Pardon my lengthiness, but I would like to keep everything short and to the point. Long ago, I thought that by ascending to the title of "Supreme Dueler" ( I use qoutations because I know I am no where the criterion for that title, let alone the title of Overlord of the Duel of Swords ) my reign would be one of fun and happiness, at least for me. After becoming a Baron, I found the political
turmoil of this place is nothing close to fun, but it should be. That led me to my next belief, I should try to make the Arena honorable once again.
You may all believe I'm full of crock when I say this, but I believe this is
an all around "good" Council. I believe we can restore somewhat more of a less hostile environment that the Arena has become, but I need your help. From Renegade to Loyal, I respect all of you in some form or another. As for the Renegades, I know some of you have no qualms with me personally, it's your beliefs, and I respect those, as for those who do have a problem with me, I hope that my actions as well as my words during my tenure led you to a
different belief than you have now. We all must participate and lead by example now..You have all seen how the Council has degraded in the public eye, through example we can show honor and sportsmanship and things will get better (not all at once, but progressively). No one of us is better than the rest..we can put aside out differences in this one venue, don't you all think?
Secondly, I'd like to outline my stances on the Rules of Engagement.
Here they are in a short format:

1) Intercessions by the Overlord- Loyals Barons, upon request will be interceded for, almost always. I believed that people should fight their own battles once, but if Loyalty is given and not mutually shared, what is the point of alignment? I respect the decisions of other Loyalists (I know two of whom will never ask for Intercessions) and will not intercede for them in any case unless asked for.

2) The Test of Worthiness- The Test of Worthiness will scarcely be used while I am Overlord. Some may call this folly, but it leads back to my believe of defending yourself. Those who show respect will have their challenge met in respect, those who don't will not, and I shall deal with them in another manner..

3) Renegade Baron and Warlord Tournament Winners- All challenging Renegades and winners of the Intercession-Free title shot will have a straight shot at me, one on one, first to 5 points. I believe their skill has been proven. No Best of Three will be offered unless requested or I see a need for it.

Last of all, I'd like to say something very important to me. Many people
don't agee with how I voted regarded Overlord Shiv Blade, they hold my Loyalty in question. I voted that way for a reason..Drey's challenge stood for over a month, and the Warlords Tournament bursted down upon us. Someone needed to defend Avery's claim to the Throne, many people say why not use a Champion and save yourself heartache? I did not vote for a Champion because I felt that the staff would not see this as a valid course of action..Avery did
not request a Champion before he left, and therefore a Champion doesn't have the right to step in without being asked, which is why Baron Oakenshield had to duel Huma Dragonsbane in an out-of-sanctioned match to protect Overlord Ar'Daumon. I figured the best way to protect Avery's right to the Crown would be through gaining the title (either myself or another Loyalist), that being said..I don't necessarily see myself as the Overlord, merely a place
holder..Upon Avery's return, I request the right from Valentine to pass Avery the Crown without either of us being held in forfiet and that he retain his place as 38th Overlord of the Duel of Swords. I don't request my Barony back..I simply want this. That being said, I would like to add one thing..if I come out victorious against the Warlady, I would have no reservations in meeting the challenge of Baron Starke against Avery as well..unless he would
like to wait until Avery returns to take the mantle back from me. Anyone who has any questions, I would be happy to meet with you to discuss anything I have spoken about.

Daelin Dragonsblade,

I shall address thine comments with respect to the matter of the match between Jeffrey Oakenshield and Huma Dragonsbane. I wast present that eve, sir. Perhaps thou are nae aware that the official, Nycholas deGyrlington, wast aware that Jeffrey Oakenshield hae been named by Dalamar Ar'Daumon to stand against Huma Dragonsblade. Therefore, sir, thine comment that a champion dost nae hae ta right to step forward with out being asked, hast nae bearing
in that particular situation.

Madame Helix Girvin didst converse privily with Huma Dragonsblade, thou she disdained anna such conversation with both Lord Ar'Daumon's Second who wast present ast well ast with Jeffrey Oakenshield. One may opine that Huma Dragonsbane's haste to have the match declared in forfeit wast his knowledge ast well ast his fear that he needs must face Dalamar's Champion. One may also opine, ast I do, that Madame Girvin's precipitous arrival and her
instructions to Huma Dragonsbane ast well ast her instructions unto the official wast among the darkest events in the history of this sport.

Sir, I do ask of thee, just how thee expect to return honor unto the sport? Further, sir, I must say thine statement that thee perceive the environment of the arena to be one of hostility rather an interesting premise. Perhaps thee wouldst care to further elucidate upon that statement?

With respect to your comments ast to why thee chose nae to place thine support for the option of perhaps choosing a champion, I must remind thee, sir, that it hast been a rare circumstance where in the Supervisor of the sport hast chosen to set aside the adjudication of the Council of Barons in whole or in part. In fact, sir, only one such instance dost come to mind, that being the setting aside of the stipulation of service unto the community made
by the Council in the matter of Lord Dalamar Ar'Daumon's being declared in forfeit of his match with Huma Dragonsblade.

I shall make the presumption with respect to thine comments ast outlined in point three, that thee perhaps made a mere slip of thine pen, sir. Surely thee be aware that, in a challenge match, there ist nae anna such provision that the first to garner five points shall be adjudged the victor.

I canna help but notice, sir, that thee hae left thineself what may be termed room to maneuver with respect to thine stances with regard to anna challenges which thee or thine loyalist may face.

Further, sir, I do also take notice of thine comments with respect to thine request unto Master Valentine Evermeadow. I am reminded, sir, of thine own comments, that Avery ist nae the sort of young man to nae work for what he dost desire, yet thee wouldst desire of Master Evermeadow that ye be allowed to further dishonor Avery Shiv Blade, first deposing him, then returning unto him that title which, by thine vote thee didst wrest from the man thee
call friend, then which thee didst garner by dint of thine blade.

Thou hast repeatedly stated, sir, that tis thine belief that one shouldst fight one's own battles, ast well ast having stated thine belief that such wouldst ast well be thine friend, Avery's wishes. How then, sir, dost justify that belief and statement with thine desire to relinquish the mantle without lifting blade?

Respectfully,

Overlord Dragonsblade,

I shall address yer statements in two parts. First, politically. Long have I stood against an Overlord interceding on behalf of his loyal barons. Never once have I asked fer intercession from an Overlord, however, twice one has done so without it being my wish. I remain steadfast in my belief barons should strike down any foe who challenges, even unworthy ones. Nothing ya can do, sir, da baron ya protect could not. Ya are no more powerful a
slayer of unworthy challengers, da baron should do his own dirty work. Baronies are political positions, but keeping said position strictly by political manuevering leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I do not stand fer it, nor will I ever respect it. As such, you may readily expect ta see my blade in opposition of yers, should ya choose ta exercise yer right of intercession.

I will make it clear taday, I will champion any challenger, no matter who it is. Even da foulest scum deserves a match with his target. While loyalty may be yer catch phrase as ta why you protect yer barons, I would sooner call it cowardice on da baron's part, and ignorance on yer own.

Now, as fer yer vote towards Avery. I continues ta boggle me how voting ta strip Avery helped him in any way. Certainly, if he did not want da crown, prior ta his disappearance, he would have made such desires known and forfeited his station. Obviously, since he did not, I can only assume he still desired ta remain as Overlord. As a loyal baron, I believe ya are *required* ta do everything in yer power ta stop yer Overlord from losing his
crown. If he will not accept yer blade, I would hope he would accept yer verbal support. Yer vote neither supported Avery, nor helped him. His ousting helped yerself, ta his crown.

I will be a hard man ta convince of otherwise, however ya are welcome ta try if it pleases ya. I do not yet know what course of action I will take in my stance against ya. It may be direct challenge, or it may continue as it does now, a public detractor ta yer reign. I sincerely hope Taylara exercises her right ta challenge and does succeed. Not fer Avery's sake, but fer da sake of loyalty, may it be represented by a leader who knows its true
meaning.

Baron Oakenshield.

As I have stated before... for someone who has defended more than one Overlord, your stance against the Overlord doing the same for one Loyal to him strikes me as more than passing strange.

Truely, how do the situations differ?

Jeffrey,

Not to detract from your statement, but Taylara is far from the best represenative of "loyalty."

Lady Starfare,

In answer to your comments, I respect
your opinions as well. Mayhaps I was a bit hasty in trying to get the Title back to Avery. I will however call for him to immediately challenge me on his return, because as you have said..I have said many times I don't think he will take a handout.

Baron Oakenshield,

I have to agree with Madame Silvertree
here..you've defended an Overlord many a times, and did you align yourself Renegade when the Overlord stood in against you? I know many people would argue about your seemingly "blind Loyalty" but I have respected you as a person and a duelist, and I don't think that you are truly so one-sided. Loyalty is about two people supporting each other, you say I don't know what that means..but you've said it yourself, support should be given in words and
blade..I believe someone should fight their own battles as I have said..but of course, you don't know me that well and you never have. de Clermont, Ganderfald, and Eques could tell you how I've felt and how I do feel about the Test and Intercessions and you'd probably be very surprised..you seem to be painting me as someone who will use these in any opportunity. I will support my Loyalists if they ask for my help, if they don't and wish to fight
their own battles..I will step aside, I would also encourage they fight their own challenges. I don't know what you've heard or formulated about me from my writing, maybe it was misunderstood..but I don't believe myself to be anything you seemed to want to paint as far as Intercessions go..

Secondly, I appreciate your seemingly willingness to allow me to explain, but I don't know if you would really believe me as I've tried to explain before. If you really want me to turn your thoughts otherwise, let me know and I shall try..for now I'll say, that yes..my decision as well as those of the other Loyalists may have been wrong at the time, but I felt it was right..maybe for the wrong reasons..if I have hurt Avery, I will gladly apologize
and try to redeem it both in his eyes and the eyes of the Community, but only he can be the judge of that.

I'm also very sorry for your comments about wanting me to lose quickly to the Warlady. They seem to contradict your desire for me to explain. I feel that I am a horrible monster now as many have told me that the Warlady is quite an enigma..take it as you will, I shall not through insults, I have never been one to do so willingly.

However to echo your sentiments Baron..I have a qoute I'd like to add, it illustrates the way I feel about my reign and my tenure..

"The Bad Guys always die..", shortly I should be out of your hair, if that's what you truly feel, because then I'd be the Bad Guy, no?

Drake and Daelin,

Overlord, also known as, Supreme Dueler. Baron, one of many, not unique. If ya don't see a glaring difference here I will probably not be able ta further explain my stance.

Overlord is a far greater position both in difficulty to attain and importance ta DoS. While a good baron may have more impact dan a bad overlord, having a position with a single occupant is obviously more in da spotlight. Overlord should be a title, which is hard to earn. It embodies both dueling skill and political skill, as da Overlord will most certainly be drawn inta da political arena at some point. It is a far cry from da mere Baronial
rank.

Barons live and die by da blade, not by politics. At least, I believe dat is how it should be. It is a rank fer dueling skill, and offers a way out of da politics (neutrality). I see da two ranks as Black and White, despite some of da similarities in practice.

More ta da point, I'm not here ta argue my beliefs against yer own. I state how I feel and I have not wavered in dis belief once. I have held dis stance from my first reign. I will, however, turn a blind eye ta choices made by an Overlord who I stand loyal ta. Such is da price I pay fer offering my loyalty ta one who is worthy. Overlord is a much more important role, and should be much harder ta attain. As such, testing challengers ta da
Overlord is acceptable, while testing challengers ta Barons is not.

As fer why Taylara would be a better representitive of loyalty, Daelin has already forsaken dat value. Taylara has a clean slate, certainly one who has not tried is better dan one who has already failed.

I'm just going to say this one last time.
Take it as you will. Most of the people have already told me that I should just ignore you two and forget about it and move on. However, as I have said before I want my reign to be about restoration, not hostility. I don't believe I've "failed" or "forsaken" anything, Baron Oakenshield. No one is perfect, not even yourself..and I'm not claiming you said that, I'm just pointing it out. The Warlady is not perfect either, the disruption in House
Dragoon-Talanador involving her speak loudly of that, and of loyalties..I was part of this, I should know. As I have said before, you don't know me Baron..you've spoken to me about twice that I can remember (it may be less or more)..and haven't tried to get to know me, mayhaps I haven't tried either, but I haven't passed judgement on you as you so colorfully have me in your posts. As I have said, I would be happy to meet with you and discuss this
issue, but now I will say..and keep saying, I may have had a mistake..mistakes are alright, and I will remedy them if I find out I have, but the only ones who can judge me are Avery and Bahamut, and until one of those does..I shall wait.

Unfortunately Daelin...

Anyone can pass judgement on your actions... and many here will do so gleefully.
Fortunately for you, you understand that only the judgement of your god and the person you may or may not have wronged are the ones that truely matter.
All the rest are merely words.

Who is this Jonalyn Starfare and why should we be mindful of her? She was the one who initiated this controversy between Val, Avery, and the Barons. She holds no position, fights no battles, but finds opportunity to malign and injure all those who say anything her narrow viewpoint sees as remotely critical of her or her favorites.

I am sure, given her word-smithing she can point out where someone said something about someone which makes them evil, etc. I am equally sure she will point to many posts that others have made that in her mind vindicate her.

She does not fight with other then words and for the most part the words are fickle wailings of one never happy unless they and their machinations are foremost.

She preaches of honor, nobility, and the finer things, yet her actions serve to drag the lives and reputations of others into the mire.

How many more will she seek to destroy with her ill-triven ways? More importantly, if your her friend when will she turn on you?

Indeed, with a friend like her who is in need of any enemies at all? Is it not time this wicked crone was offered an honorable retirement and packed off to a asylum?

Respectfully,

Andrew Pyre, Esq.

Daelin,

Curiously, ya have once again claimed innocence, but refuse ta state why. Ya didn't address my query as ta how strippin' Avery of his title could possibly have helped him when he still wanted it, nor have ya made a convincin' argument as ta why ya didn't support yer Overlord with yer vote. Maybe yer definition of loyalty is lesser dan my own and I am holdin' ya ta too high a standard. I guess we are at an impass if such is da case.

Drakewyn,

Try as ya might, ya will not cheapen my missive claimin' it is only words. No, it is not. I has intense emotion, feelin', and anger. Words may, in fact, be a far more civil way ta express one's anger, moreso dan a blade I would wager. However, when people such as yerselves fail ta respect one's feelings, blades may be all dat remain.

Ironically, ya would probably support da claim dat words are a more civil way of settlin' an argument. However, I could be wrong, perhaps ya are a barbarian after all.

Furthermore, Daelin can disregard me as a bag of hot air and empty words if he so chooses. I have other ways of expressin' myself.
